MalcolmxParticipantMohamed Bamba is a class of 2017 C/PF from Harlem,New York but attends a prep school in Pennsylvania called The westtown school. This is a special prospect. He just recently was ranked the number 10 player by ESPN in the country. I have seen the kid in person several times and was always impressed but his upside is even more impressive. He attended Nike elite 100 camp and his measurements were just jaw dropping. He measured in at 6’11 with a 7’8 wingspan and a 9’5 standing reach. So his reach and wingspan would be elite even in the NBA .Only thing is he is a kid who hasn’t even begun his junior year of high school yet. He runs and jumps very well. He is a high level shot blocker. Can hit the face up jumper he handles the ball extremely well for a 6’11 kid. He can go coast to coast with ease and even do counter dribble moves. His range extends out to the high school 3 point line. The only clear cut weaknesses I see is his weight and he also needs to play harder at times. But folks I’m telling you now this is a special prospect and kid. Do not be surprised if at the end of his high school career he puts pressure on Michael porter and Deandre Ayton in the rankings to contend for the Number 1 spot. He is that scary.

PickMeUpASixerParticipantSaw him play a few games last year at Cardigan, he’s got an intimidating physical profile for sure, he definitely wasn’t 6’11" then, could definitely have grown.
However, I was not impressed by his game, he can swat shots and dunk against <6’2" kids, but he doesn’t play with any physicality despite his massive size advantage. He usually looks really good in the first half, getting offensive rebounds, blocks and putback dunks, but by the second half, he’ll be standing 4-5 ft behind the 3 point line calling for the ball, where he seems like a middling shooter (from the HS line). Does not play particularly hard on defense, he got taken to school in the post by Chris Doherty, a 6’6" player from MA. For me, Ayton and Porter should not be worried about him.
Strengths:
Size and reach
Decent looking jumper, consistent out to around 15′
Shows some ability to play on the perimeter, comfortable with the ball in his hands.
Weakness:
Often plays without intensity on both ends
Gets pushed out of the paint by smaller players/Gets thrown off his game by physicality
Doesn’t take advantage of his size, especially posting up
Limited touch finishing inside, does not use off hand, rarely uses hooks
No go to move in the post
Not skilled enough handling/shooting to be a real prospect as a perimiter player
