Throw back a good college player who fell off the face of the planet and tell what they’re doing these days.

I’ll start. Does anyone remember Christian Drejer, often referred to as the Danish import. Anyway, he started at small forward for the Flordia Gator in 2003-2004 and abruptly left the team in mid-season and accepted a playing contract overseas. Dude could ball, but he never really took off in America. He was eventually drafted but never played in the NBA.

What about God Shammgod? He had the best name in the history of sports and a cross over which was similar to Allen Iverson. He couldn’t shoot 38 percent from the field for his life, but he sure would make a highlight reel off of you. He and Austin Crochere took Providence to the Elite 8, I think the lost to the Kansas Jayhawks that year lead by Jacque Vaughn. He also played with C-Webb, Howard and Wallace in Washington, but was eventually cut.

Sean Banks, arrested several times while he was in high school. Was named to the U.S. under 21 team, but decided against playing for them at the last minute by skipping a practice that was less than 15 minutes from his house. He was named ESPN national freshman of the year after averaging 17 points and 6 boards a game. Declared for the 2005 draft, but went undrafted. He was signed by the Hornets, who assigned him to the D-League. He tore it up down there, but never received any offers from other NBA teams. I saw him playing for the Clippers’ summer league team.

God Shammgod I been watching him play since highschool days when he was at Lasalle academy on the same team as Ron Artest and he that great run in college with providence when they lost to Arizona in the Elite 8 who the championship that year you also talk about Christian Drejer who played at Florida was flat out overrated and really didn’t show the potential that everybody said he had.

Dang, I remember Sean Banks! It was never about his talent, but his poor attitude. Wow. That brings back memories. Banks was a small forward if I remember. Sad story. Did you ever hear of Jimmie Hunter down at SMU?

Never heard of Jimmie Hunter. I live less than 10 minutes away from Banks’ hometown, so I hear about him all the time. I remember hearing a story about him being chased by the cops and trying to hide in a snow bank.

ED COTA – he was one of my favorite college players ever……North Carolina PG back when Vince Carter & Jamison were there. After Carter & Jamison went pro, Cota was pretty much all UNC had left. Cota was a great ball handler…one of the best I have ever seen. He constantly could take people off the dribble. Wasn’t the most athletic, or the biggest, or the best shooter but he could flat out play. He had a very solid little floater that he shot when he got into the lane. Never got a real chance in the NBA…spent his pro career overseas playing for various teams. I miss watching him play. I’m not sure where he is now, I think he is still playing international ball but he may have retired.

Gatorheels, little known fact about Cota that you can’t find on the Internet. He reinstituted that move where you wrap the ball behind you back and put the ball back in the original hand, faking out your opponet. Even I started doing it back in the day.

Shavlik Randolph… Not really a good college player but he went to Duke for a few seasons, went pro early for some weird reason and went undrafted.. I just like him because when he was asked about playing with some gay player he said something along the lines of “its ok as long as they dont bring their gayness on me).

I never understood how the guy got drafted. He did absolutely nothing in college, yet he somehow has played in the league 3 years so far. Kind of crazy. Maybe he is lucky he gets to sit on the bench, that way no one knows how bad he is.

Dreijer was a nice player though, he just wasn’t consistent. He wouldn’t have lasted long in the NBA. He had a lot of talent that he wasted though.

Felipe Lopez from St John’s. He was hyped way out of control. He appeared on the cover of “Sports Illustrated” before his freshman year of college. He played well in college, but struggled to catch on in the NBA.

Shavlik didn’t get drafted.. he signed as an undrafted FA.. He did average 4.5 points 4.5 rebounds his 3rd year in 13 mpg for philly though.

Kenny Bruner? He went to Georgetown as a top three point guard from High school. He was 5 foot 9 but word was he could take over a game with his defense.

Shavlik was one of the top high school players in 2002. he could’ve been real good but he never panned out. the one player that comes to mind when i think about good college players who never made it pro is Chris Marcus. dude was enormus and he could play little too

William Avery- Duke, he was a nice PG and 1 of my favs. left when Brand and Maggettee did- stayed in the L for 3 years but is now playin in Greece I think

Teddy Dupay- played at Florida with Mike Miller and Haslem…got kicked out I believe and got into legal problems…plays in the CBA

Loren Woods- Tim Duncans back up at Wake then played his last 2 years at Arizona- played in Spain and Lithuania last year

Toby Bailey- UCLA starter for 4 years..played with the Suns for a few years then has been playin overseas…played in Germany this year then the LA Lighting in the IBL

Wayne Turner- Kentucky PG, older version of Rondo but Rondo can some what shoot…i honestly dunno if he played in the L but i know he was in the CBA last year

I’m surprised nobody mentioned Charles and Ed O’Bannon. These guys were stars at U.C.L.A., but their games didn’t translate well to the pros. Neither one played more than two years in the league.

Just commenting on Ed Obannon the one-time would-be Nets savior and former UCLA star. These days, the 36-year-old is a promotions manager for Findlay, a family-owned collection of dealerships in Henderson, Nev. You know whats crazy is I bought my car from his dealership a couple years ago.

Charles Obannon as of 2009, he was playing for the Toyota Alvark of the Japanese Basketball League, and was leading that league in scoring.

What about Drew Shifino from WVU? He was a damn good player but had a bad attitude. Dude could ball.

I never saw Shifino play, but I do remember Mike Gansey and Kevin Pittsnogle. Gansey lost alot of weight after a staph infection, dropping as low as 137 pounds. I saw Pittsnogle on a couple of summer league teams, but he never got signed.

Pitsnoggle is a 6th grade teacher here in WV and is an assistant coach for the middle school basketball team somewhere. Im not sure what town he is in, but he is here. And Gansey is super skinny. I saw him at WVU team camp and he looks like a crack head becaue of his weight. Everysince he got sick, he told me he cant gain weight. Crazy tho.

Keith Langford…played at Kansas. Had a monster game against D-Wade in the 2003 Final Four, 11 of 14 from the field for 23 points and scored on him at will. He was great at getting to the basket but did never really develop a great outside shot. He has had a coule of 10-day contracts in the NBA and has since decided to make his living in Europe. But, I always thought that watching him play at Kansas he would surely make it in the league. Really the whole Jayhawk class that he was a part of had a lot of pro-potential but never quite panned out to the NBA, Wayne Simien and Aaron Miles both flirted with the league but never have made it stick.

Anyone knows what happened to this kid?…He had a lot of potential, but the lack of desire he displays, lack of work ethic, and flat out laziness he shows on the court, killed his NBA chances

He was drafted in the 2nd round with the 42nd pick by the golden state warriors. He played in only 17 games in his rookie season as a result of back spasms that ended his season in early January. He had surgery in 2006 to repair a herniated disc and has yet to return to the court in a professional game. In his limited playing time, Chris averaged 2.8 points and 2.1 rebounds in 8.5 minutes per game. Taft was unable to play during the 2006-07 NBA preseason due to recurring back spasms and inflammation. On October 27, 2006, he was waived by the Warriors and became a free agent.

Mcdonalds All American Played at Duke set the Duke record at the time for Most 3 pointers made got drafted by 2 major sports the Sandiego Padres in 1994 in the 6th round and he was a lottery Pick #11 in 1999 by the Cleveland Caviliers Played 3 years with the Cav’s. He currently plays in Russia with CSKA Moscow the reigning Russian League Champions.
