You know as a Colorado fan, it’s beyond me that this guy’s become such a valuable(valuable as in, a valuable bench player) FA this year. He played with us back in 2002-2006 and he never really showed much NBA promise struggling with injuries, inconsistency and such (including getting shot in the shoulder at a party) but he did have Size for the NBA and there definitely was some talent there. But 12 and 5 as a senior certainly doesn’t make the NBA. This was the last I thought I’d hear Chris Copeland. 7 years later, I’m watching a Knicks vs somebody game and they say Chris Copeland out of Colorado. I didn’t even remember him. So I went ahead and looked up his name and found his story of how he made it to the NBA. It’s a great read, it really shows how much hard work can pay off and that you shouldn’t give up easily. He also averaged an extremely significant 8.1 points in just 15.4 MPG with a 48% FG% and a 42% 3PT%, To go from where he did to being that good in his rookie year amazes me. Of course he still has some holes in his game, particularly defensively, but most players that would take such a route would be a 12th man averaging under 1 or 2 points and rebounds.

I can’t wait to see what he can do with possibly more minutes and help a team that needs his scoring. Anyways I just enjoyed that read and I thought some of you guys might enjoy it too and meant to post it during the season, but I’d say this is a fitting time as well.

Here are the list of teams interested in him by the way:
Cavaliers, Pacers, Mavericks, Nuggets and Lakers, and of course the Knicks want him back but I think he’ll get too high of an offer. Though I’m not sure the Cavs would sign him after Earl Clark.

I’ve heard the Jazz have made contact with him but not sure how that went. They could use his shooting, he could spread the court.

Heard that as well. Pelicans had expressed interested previously also, but probably aren’t going after him any longer after ‘Reke

there are other guys like this, alan anderson played all over the world and made it as a 27 year old rookie, gary neal was 26 hi rookie year. That is the thing these draft picks have to know that just because you dont make it this year if they keep working they can make it in the NBA at some point in their careers

Yes but Copeland went all the way down to some of the worst basketball there was, and somehow made it to NBA and had a big rookie season. I just liked the story is all, I’m sure it’s happened other times but it’s cool to get a close look at what it was like for him

that was a great article, thanks for sharing it and yeah he got cut twice from second division spanish teams and played in dutch league in front of a thousand fans, I have not read on any other articles on those guys. This is a very big underdog story. I think espn will eventually do an E60 piece on it, they did that with gary neal.
