Shouldnt’t he stay another year in college,i haven’t seen him play,i’m just asking.What is the ceiling of this guy ? He’s long (not tall) and athletic but does he have some fundamentals,perimeter shot,feel for the game ?

 He has talent but he is definitely not worth a lottery pick at this time, in my opinion. Another year in college would suit him well, as he should eat up all the minutes Perry Ellis leaves behind.

 I dont mind him in the late lottery. Staying in school would probably help but he will get drafted in the 1st round if he declared and the reality is that money talks.

I dont see him being a contributor straight away but I predict a Clint Capella type of career trajectory.

If a team can wear that, they’ll probably get a handy player before the Rookie contract runs its course.

I’ve watched some Kansas and haven’t seen him play. Between him and Shal, I don’t know how you take these guys in the lottery. Then again, teams now take these workouts way too seriously. He has a good workout and he could go in the lottery.

 Diallo is a project and basically all potential at this point. Hes not even good enough to get mins at Kansas let alone contribute for an NBA team. Is it possible that he could develop rapidly and turn into one of the best pfs in the NBA in 5 years? Of course it is. It’s also possible that he gets buried on the bench, doesn’t develop much and is out of the league in a few years. With that type of uncertainty, there is no way he’s a lottery pick right now. I think it would be a gamble for him to declare because I don’t see him as a sure-fire first rounder. He just hasn’t shown enough on the court against actual high level competition. Someone would take a chance on his potential if he enters the draft, but it would not be in the lottery and might be in the second round where he wouldn’t be guaranteed to earn any money.

I think the player whose situation and perception is the closest is Patric Young. He was another super-long super-athlete who needed to learn how to play. Now, Young played about double Diallo’s minutes as a freshmen (17.8 to 8.5), but I think it is still somewhat apt. He went from being someone perceived to be a lottery pick when backing up Vernon Macklin, Alex Tyus, and Erik Murphy to someone who ultimately went undrafted after four years. Honestly, after a good year in Turkey and signing with Olympiakos, it seemed possible Young would get another crack at the NBA in the not-too-distant future, but he tore his ACL.

This brings back the coversation back to the same old questions about development. Is a truly raw player like Diallo better off as a player entering the draft and spending the next two years in the NBDL versus staying at Kansas? What happens if the team that drafts him does not have a D-League affiliate (ala the free agent signing of Cliff Alexander)? How highly can a bad team take a guy that they know cannot help them win games anytime soon in what does not look like an overwhelming draft outside the first couple picks?

 This year with the rules changing the number of underclassmen who declare will be ridiculous. Diallo will be on that list but why not go thru the process, get a feel for where you’ll be drafted and worse case go back to school.
