F*** F*** F***!!!!! As an Illinois fan, I thought we had a real shot of landing him. I guess our 2015 wing commits DJ Williams and Aaron Jordan (who think will rise in the rankings) and the presence of  Ken Nunn (emerging big time), Malcolm Hill and Aaron Cosby played a part, as well as the lure of UK and Calipari’s NBA development probably being the overriding factor. I’ll still hold on to hope until signing day and Illinois better get after Jalen Brunson hard. Thoughts or comments?

Cal never promises kids anything. Every recruit has repeated that he tells them they will have to earn a starting spot or time.  It’s not hard to see why he would pick UK over Ill.  If you’re a kid and you’re dream is to play big time college basketball, be on tv all the time, treated like a rockstar, meet NBA stars and hiphop stars while having every NBA scout watching you every game and most of them at every practice then UK is whre you go.  UK now is what Badboy records, Death Row records, Ruff Ryder’s was in the past for a hot new artist

         exactly this^

Kentucky is the biggest stage and has a proven system. all Cal does is send kids to the NBA , thats the main attraction for top recruits.

You know, I repsect the fan’s perspective that if you’re from Illinois, you want a local kid to stay there.  But it’s a big gamble to ‘stay true’ when there are potentially millions of dollars at stake.  Reaching potential is a two-way street between the player and the coaches to prepare them.  If you asked a 18 year old me which would I prefer: 1.) an unproven system for producing pros 2.) the currently hottest sytem for producing pros…I’m going with #2

I believe he did it to beat Luke Kennard who said to be wrapping up his recruitment soon. Kennard favorites are believed to be UK Michigan and Ohio Ohio State. He has strong ties UK and even grew up an UK fan with Tyshaun Prince being his favorite player. I’m an Illini fan too so it’s been really thought seeing all the top tier number one recruits like Rose Davis Parker Okafor and Alexander not staying home

And it feels like a kick to the nuts every time a highly ranked Chicago kid leaves the state, but money is stronger than love. Theres a reason kids are dropping their drawers when Calipari and Self show up, and it aint their good looks.

Right now Illinois is the equivilent of the high school sweetheart that gets kicked to the curb when the guy gets to the big time.

You gotta pay big time to play in Chitown.

Has nothing to do with money as to why kids leave. I’ll just isn’t relavent. Have to face the facts. If you are a top kid you want to go somewhere you will be watched, while fighting for a title.  That’s Duke, UK, KU.  If fans don’t realize that then they are obviously delusional and ignore the fact that I’ll is at the very bottom of their conference.  Players don’t want to go somewhere and rebuild if they plan on being in college for only one or two years.

Hell Ill fans should understand that because when they were good they were getting almost all the top local talent.

Man, as a Bulls fan I wish that the NBA still had regional preferences.  There is quite a bit of talent coming out of Chicago lately.  I would be fine with Jabari, Anthony Davis, Okafor, Cliff Alexander, and Charles Matthews to pair with Rose.

A whole lot of hate going to Cal. He has perfected recruiting and a lot of “you guys” can’t handle it. He is all about the players instead of himself, unlike the portrayal “you guys” are putting out there. Get over it

Apparently none of you idiots know anyone that plays big time college basketball. To say that money has NOTHING to do with it is to look at College Bball with rose colored glasses.

Recruiting is a cesspool, especially in Chicago. Money flows through there like a casino. Im not hating on Calipari. He obviously is well "connected" and he gets whatever player he wants. Anyone close to college bball will tell you Kentucky is playing a different game from everyone else.
