Trikshot79ParticipantArizona Sports is reporting that Channing Frye will be leaving the Sun’s to play for the Magic…

WetalkinboutpracticeParticipantGets to play with his cousin Tobias Harris. So even though their front court is crowded with young bigs still a good look for him. 4yrs/$32M.

Andrew1984ParticipantGreat move. Payton-‘Dipo-Harris-Frye-Vuc.
Frye will be a great complement to Aaron Gordon. Frye is finesse, perimeter touch, skill, not exactly an imposing physical presence or athletic freak. Gordon is the total opposite; speed, leaping, aggressive, competitive. Frye will help Gordon learn how to play in the NBA and the two both give the team something very different, yet useful. Kudos to Rob Hennigan on this signing.

CavFanPRParticipantIsn’t that contract a little outrageous? 4 years, 32 million for a 31 year old that had open heart surgery a couple years back and missed a whole season. He sure did look good this past season but that’s a lengthy contract for a guy who is starting to age. As expected, another overpay. Keep them coming I guess.
I’ll admit, he’s a good fit next to Vucevic and they need some veterans. If he can repeat what he did this past season the contract may not end up looking so bad considering he’s a big, stretch four and those are valuable.

IndianaBasketballParticipantI’m surprised Frye wasn’t looking to sign with a contender…
But it’s hard to turn down this type of money if you’re Frye.
Orlando is looking to make the playoffs.

jmtc77ParticipantShould fire his agent… Lots of scrubs are getting paid lots of money this off season and Hawes who had a great season and is much better than Channing Frye got paid below his market value…

Hacker90ParticipantWould be because he signed with the Clippers and is trying to win a championship. I’m sure he could have gotten more $$$ if he decided to go to a lottery team

GrandmamaParticipant4yr/32mil for Channing Frye is awful in my opinion. I wouldn’t have given him more than 2 years, at 5 mil per. A 31 year old PF, who can’t rebound, can’t defend, shoots awfully from the field (43% last year). All he is is a stretch 4 who can knock down some 3’s. He doesn’t do anything else. Awful contract, just awful. Just for comparison’s sake, Taj Gibson signed a 4yr/33mil deal last year. Gibson is light years ahead of Frye in terms of talent.

HitsterParticipantAs a Phoenix fan I’m sad to see Channing go but we have the Morris twins to fill his role and Alex Len needs minutes plus we may actually sign a top FA for the first time in a decade.
But good luck to Channing for getting a very nice deal, it does seem strange he goes to a rebuilding team but if the offer is there he was not going to turn down his likely last big deal. The value of the contract does seem generous as Channing is 31 now but as a finesse big he could well have a longer career than more athletic game type bigs.
His health issues are well known but he must have cleared the various medical tests so I won’t say that will hinder him going forward.

Chilbert arenasParticipantI really thought he was going to end up with Warriors. Magic needed spacing and he certainly provides that.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantaww this makes me sick to my stomach, it looked like we were finally going to have some albatross salaries off our hands and now we sign another. Even worse when you consider that we weren’t willing to pony up the same kind of money to keep Ryan Anderson.
I would much rather give PT to our young guys and keep salary cap room going forward.

festar35ParticipantI feel that the best spot for Frye is in the starting line-up to be a floor spacer for the guys like Payton and Gordon. Oladipo is developing into a capable 3 pt shooter, but nothing special. I can’t see the Magic drafting Gordon just to have him on the bench, so again I can start to see that Shawn Marion role for him beginning to take place as a SF.
The odd guys out could be Harris or Harkless and Nicholson. I can’t see Harris being happy with a bench role and frankly I think he is too good to be a bench player. I would look to move these guys for another wing player with experience and a back-up PG as I am not sure how good Moore will become or what position he plays. Potentially Harris to Memphis for Prince (could teach Gordon a lot) and Calathes (proven to be a solid player)
PG. Payton/calathes SG. Oladipo/Fournier SF. Gordon/Prince PF. Frye/Maxiell C. Vucevic/O’Quinn

King CaluchaParticipantI don’t understand why they signed him. Clearly, they needed shooting, so… are they trying to win now? Anyway… 32M over 4 years is just way too much. This looks like a contract that will end up being dumped along in a pick in a few years when they are trying to contend for real.

terrancebowerParticipantMaybe he’s being over-credited for the Suns’ success this year? This contract surprised me not only because of the size and length, but not they basically have to make a trade to undo some of that log-jam (Harris, Gordon, Nicholson, Frye, O’Quinn, Vucevic, even Harkless can play some 4). Maybe they have something lined up? Will Harris start at the 3 now? I like him better at the 4…

Bird_YearsParticipantPeople complaining about Orlando over paying him have to remember that teams are forced to spend a minimum amount of money, same reason Ben Gordon got anything

trelos6ParticipantDumb move Orlando. Too many PF. Frye can’t play SF or back up C. Harris/Gordon are more PF than SF. With Afflafo gone for cents on the dollar, Orlando will again struggle mightly this season.

JDUDParticipantFrye’s value is being underestimated here, and the value of 8 mill per year to the Magic is being overestimated. They had to spend some of their cap space on someone, and they chose a vet who should really help their young core out. For one, Frye is a great locker room guy, which fits the culture I think they’re trying to build. More importantly, he is an elite shooter for his position. Remember, without Jameer Nelson’s shooting, they will would have a had a severe lack of spacing next season th. Frye will help all 7 of their core young guys by providing them with some of that spaccing through his killer pick and pop game, which can really bend defenses. I think this is a huge factor for their development. Frye can play next to Vuc or back him up, as he’s actually decent at defending most centers.Four years may be too much, but if Frye fails it won’t hurt the Magic anywhere near as much as it would hurt Frye’s other suitors (i.e. Golden State), who need to be precisous about any extra cap space they have.

thetrademachineryParticipanti would better give Monroe the MAX than this kind of deal, i had sympathy to young core of Orlando but this is not very logical
