JoeWolf1I read this on insider today and thought it was kind of interesting, so I figured I’d put it up here and see what you guys think.
Frye a match up nightmare?
Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic blogged about how new Phoenix center Channing Frye has been creating matchup problems in the Suns’ seven-seconds-or-less offense.
“It’s difficult to gather too much from pickup games with no point guards (no offense to Grant Hill and Alando Tucker’s work on the practice court. I mean, The Annexus Group Practice Court). However, if there were some sort of stats being kept, Channing Frye would probably be shooting something like 75 percent from the perimeter.
“It’s a glimpse of what he is going to create offensively if a center is put on him. If Robin Lopez leaves him out there, it’s a money, feathery bucket. If Lopez comes out to challenge him, Frye just goes by him. Put a four on Frye and that means Amare Stoudemire salivates at the sight of a five guarding him. Regardless, the middle is going to much more open.”
If he does flourish in that system, that would fill a big void at center in Pheonix’s line up and give them a young defensive spark off the bench in Lopez ( who showed improvement in summer ball )…thoughts??

llperezI expect Frye to start. He is kinda soft defensively, but he has a lot of offensive tools. I’m not big on Robin Lopez or louis amundson, so I think the suns will give both Frye and Stromile Swift the opportunity to resurrect their careers next year.

sheltwon3ParticipantI like the Frye signing and I think that the Suns could be the darkhorse team in the West and they return to their offensive days with better weapons.

Henry25Participantyeah if u remember Frye had a great rookie year with the Knicks and for a while was untouchable on that team. I see him starting and maybe being a darkhorse for the MIP award. He could average around 17 and 8 if given the minutes

JoeWolf1I always like him in college, but I was never sure if he was a good pro, or just put up decent numbers because he played for a couple horrible Knicks teams. Portland was stacked down low and I knew he’d never get minutes, so I’m glad he’s doing well in Pheonix.

McWinningParticipanthes too soft hes like a less talented version of Amara i think where he can flourish is somewhere where he can play next to a big center who clogs the land and then be hanging out on the wing hitting jump shots.

JoeWolf1I think he is more of a poor man’s Lamarcus Aldridge, but I still think he could put up pretty decent numbers in Pheonix,…somewhere between 13 and 6 and what Henry25 said like 17 and 8

Henry25Participantyeah i see the lamarcus aldridge comparison more than amare. Like Aldridge, Frye has a really nice mid range jumper and some nice low post moves. I think he will do pretty well in Phx

MagikKnickParticipantAnyone see MIP canidate?

JNixonParticipantI think he is a candidate for it..the problem is, who will get rebounds and defend for them down low? Neither Frye or Amare are great at either. One of them will have to step up in these areas, but Frye benefits from a change of scenary, he is a very talented offensive player with a very high skill level as everyone knows and I see him getting 16 or 17 ppg and about 6 or 7 boards.

sheltwon3ParticipantEarl Clark probably will get some off the bench and JRICH will average about 7 if the bigs dont get them but to be honest a lot rebounds are about positions so Frye will get his as will Amare because there is noone else.

sheltwon3ParticipantSuns will have to do a lot of team rebounding sometimes so they will need their small forward to be active.

JNixonParticipantI think Clark is the best rebounder on their team…and Amundson. But he doesnt play enough for his boards to matter too terribly much.
