Chandler and Felton to Dallas for Dalembert, Calderon, Larkins, Ellington and future second round pick.

    Thoughts?

Pleeeeeeasseeeee happen! Bring Tyson Chandler back to Dallas!

The combo of Dirk and Chandler are like Yin and Yang

(Plus its more appealing for star SFs to play with…. Im talking to you Melo or Lebron. Mainly Melo, but LeBron would be nice too)

Knicks get players they could use along with flexibility. Calderon should really help Melo on Offense.

Dallas gets its big guy back and Carlisle might be able to salvage Felton

This signifies that the Knicks are at least attempting to make the playoffs this year and that means they want Melo back. Cause otherwise the move would have been to let Chandler expire next year and gain all his cap space. they also get a pretty good young n feisty PG in Larkin.

Seems to make sense for both teams. Im interested to see how the Knicks operate with a savvy vet like Calderon at the point guard and Im sure there are some Mavs fans that STILL miss Chandlers interior defense. Win Win all around!

Not a bad trade but this doesn’t help the case for Melo to return.

Nice return for Knicks and save a few $   Calderon and Larkin?  Heavy price for Chandler and Felton who are only getting their age on these days besides sticky situations with the law (Felton)  Mavs are going to seem much older next year.  Also, might defeat Gasol from joining Calderon in Dallas.  Gasol more likely to go to Knicks with Phil Jackson.

I completely disagree with those that say this is a win-win and really hope the Knicks don’t do this trade. Chandler is still one of the top center’s in the league and his contract is for only another year. Calderon, a great facilitator but a nightmare on defense, is on the books for another 3 years. This is hardly a salary dump.

The one good thing about this possible trade is that Larkin comes to the Knicks. He’s a ultra quick, uber athletic PG with pedigree. On the other hand, he’s tiny and was a late first-rounder in one of the worst draft classes of all time.

The point is, I’m confident that the Knicks could get A LOT more for Chandler. There are several teams out there that are in need of a center with his skills. To name a few: NOLA, OKC, ATL, Phoenix. And even if these other teams are indeed uninterested in Chandler – can’t we at least get Dallas’ 2016 first round draft pick? I just think this whole trade undervalues Chandler leaving New York with nothing when they could get something.

I actually think the Knicks might be gathering pieces to put themselves in the first round.

Iman Shumpert and one of the Mavericks 2nd round picks should get the Knicks the Thunder’s 21st and 29th picks.

You think they’ll get multiple 1st round picks for Shumpert and a 2nd round pick?  I think they could possibly get the #21 pick if they’re lucky, but they aren’t going to get both.

NY also getting both of Dallas’ 2nd round picks this year (34 & 51) I think that plus Shane Larkin are the reasons the Knicks are doing it. Calderon is good off the ball in catch & shoot and doesn’t turn the ball over, which is basically what the triangle PG is asked to do.

I don’t think there’s any way Melo comes back now though…and I also don’t think that bothers Phil in the slightest.

Calderon has a monster contract, what in the world? Does Chandler have that little value?

I’m interested how this effects Melo’s chances of returning to NY, surely any team wanting to be successful needs a good defensive anchor and Chandler was that. NY could have renegoiated his contract next summer for less money if needs be.

I wonder if Phil Jackson maybe thinks Chandler has played his best basketball and was not prepared to consider him long term or pay the sort of money he would want going forward. Chandler has been in the NBA 13 seasons now despite still being only 31 years old so has a fair few miles on the clock.

Also NY have taken back Calderon who is a year older than Chandler and has 3 years left on his deal which could eat into future cap space. But Calderon is a big PG upgrade for NY and they do move Felton on.

I think that Phil is looking for assets and he’s got them with a young player in Larkin, Ellington with a $2.5 million expiring deal in 2015, Dalambert has a $3.8 million team option, 34th pick and 51st pick.

Phil could look to flip a fair few of these assets in the draft maybe Larkin and 34th pick to get into the first round?

Dalambert with a team option is a nice trade chip but NY may well need him to fill Chandler’s spot next season at least until near deadline day when his expiring deal could again be a trade chip.

If Phil also flips Shumpert for a first rounder the Knicks could suddenly have an interesting hand in the draft.

Dallas get Dirk and Chandler back in tandem if we assume that Dirk will extend with Dallas maybe he indicated he’d like Chandler back. Dallas will still have some cap room to chase a top FA and Chandler expires next year and Dirk’s deal would not be long term, so they can look to make another run or two and then have cap space to start over again in a couple of years time.

Maybe also a matter of the rest of the team, but last year you could see that Chandler is not the defender he once was (for instance when he brought a championship to Dallas). Overall, still a smart move for the Mavericks though. Despite that I like Calderon as a player, he earns a lot of money for a long time for a PG who is unable to defend anyone. More flexibility for the Mavericks, now hoping for them they can finally (!) haul in a superstar to take over Dirk’s torch after the retires.
