bobbygillerThe Boston Herald has reported that Boston and Denver held discussions about a trade for Gallinari and while talks are not currently active, league sources raised the possibility that discussions may pick up again now that the bulk of free agents have signed. What kind of trade scenarios may have been discussed and could the deal be expanded to include other players? (Lawson, Faried) both of whom have been linked to the Celtics previously, granted there aren’t glaring needs at the PG and PF positions but Ainge has been known to acquire talent when it’s available and sort out the fit later.

mgreener_34ParticipantI would love this if it happened, and Celtic fans have been speculating this for about a year now. But with that being said, the more I think about it, the more I think it’s improbably that these two teams will get anything done.
Gallo at this point is worth way more than his actual value, and I don’t think the Nuggets would trade him for equal value. He’s had serious injuries, missed that whole year, is an expiring deal, and only played 24 minutes a game last year. We all know he is better than that, but in most cases you’re just not getting what you want in return for him, kind of like how the Celtics got peanuts for Rondo last year. It’s just a bad mix.
Even if these teams were interested in making a swap, what would it be for? Bradly/Sully/Olynyk are the only real options to trade, and I don’t think Denver would want any of those guys. DEN is rebuilding, and trading for a SG who is about to hit his prime, and also just signed a 4 year extention doesn’t seem like a move a rebuilding team would make (Even though, imo, I think Bradley and a pick would be fair value at this point for Gallo, if not a robery. Gallo is going to get paid probably double what AB will make next year). I also think that Sully is looking for a payday, and Olynyk is okay, but nothing they would want. Maybe if it was Olynyk and a nicer pick they would consider, but again, that’s not really fair value based on what Gallo the player brings.
I think this could get done, but it would have to be a 3 team trade with Galo coming in to BOS, Bradley going to a 3rds team, and picks and expirerings going to Denver. And that’s assuming that DEN blows it up this year anyway. Something like this would look good imo:
DEN: Gordon/Olynyk/Celtics 1st round pick
BOS: Gallo
NOP: Bradley/Foye
Idk, mube switch gordon with anderson to match salaries, but that’s sort of the idea or framework I see getting this done.

BleedGreen808ParticipantI’m with you on all your points. I’d really like Boton to get Gallo but I’m not sure what players/contracts we have that would interest Denver. Based on our salaries it seems like AB would need to be in the trade unless we expand the trade like you said. We have the picks to get the trade done but I’m not sure how we make the salaries match.
I think the trade you proposed is pretty good for all the teams. Gordon is an expiring contract so Denver isn’t taking on long term money. I just wonder if Kelly and a 1st round pick would convince Denver to pull the trigger. Boston gets Gallo who would be a good piece. I think he’s probably a 3rd option on a contender. New Orleans comes out with a couple of shooters with AB being a solid defender. His contract will also be pretty cheap as the salary cap increases over the next couple years.
