Prime TimeParticipantCavs Get:
- Keith Bogans
- Two Future Conditional Sacramento 2nd Round Picks
Celtics Get:
- Dwight Powell (Intend to keep)
- Erik Murphy(Non-Guaranteed)
- Malcolm Thomas(Non-Guaranteed)
- John Lucas III(Non-Guaranteed)
- 2016 and 2017 Cavs Second Round Picks
- Trade Exception
Celtics also waive Chris Babb and Chris Johnson.
I like Powell as a player. I suppose he may see some minutes as a Center, because the C’s have a logjam at the PF position.

Ch13f23ParticipantCan Marcus Smart now change his jersey number to no. 4? I think it will look better if he would wear no. 4 instead of no. 36.

doubledribblerParticipantI never thought I would see the day that Keith Bogans got traded for 4 other guys. You don’t see many of these end of the bench trades.

ExumInfernoParticipantNearly the worst trade of all time, which does make it entertaining.
Celtics get one year of a young forward/center prospect, Cavs get a bigger waiveable contract. The second rounders and other players the Celtics get are just imaginary.
The Celtics have to get players out of there, to meet the roster maximum of 15, they still need to sign Turner, not a lot from the trade helps there.
The Cavs, they get a slightly bigger trade chip than the players they sent out, which were players they got from Utah to have as trade chips. Some confusing stuff there.
When Cleveland used the Celtics to clear space, Zeller to Boston and some other parts moved with the Nets, that was because they had LeBron lined up to sign. Adding Bogans and his contract that can be waived, it could mean the Cavs have another deal lined up. A trade.
Maybe Cleveland send Bogans to a team looking to save money, or luxury tax money, and the Cavs get a shotblocker back in the trade.

MopgrassParticipantInteresting idea. I don’t know how much money they’d have cap-wise if they made those cuts. If they had a big chunk of change they could get Javale McGee without sending much talent back. McGee could run up and down the court and block shots.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantThe first Boston trade was stealing and the Cavs got robbed. Lin only cost one first rounder and Jack cost 1 future first and 2 previous first rounders one of which is Zeller who would sovle the 2nd/3rd Big problem that Bogans will eventually be dealt for. Then we sent a Russian nationale and a talented kid "home" to the Nets.
Cleveland is giving up two real 2nd rounders for two imaginary ones from Boston that won’t ever exist unless the Cavs trade Lebron James to the Kings. Ainge robs them again even if its for almost meaningless Cavs second rounders.
With this deal the Cavs can take back more salary than before so in that sense its good, I suppose.
Is there a moratorium on trading a player that you recieved in a trade?

MopgrassParticipantI was glad to see Dwight Powell get traded off the Cavs. I think he’s underrated. Great shot from close, mid, and long. The Cavs had too many starting caliber PF’s already. Sadly, he got traded to the team that leads the league in power forwards. How many do the Celtics need? Please make another trade.

xJumpManxParticipantThe Cavs made the trade to have non guaranteed contracts for next year to trade. The Cavs now have 16 million in non guaranteed contracts for next season ins Bogans and Haywood.

ExumInfernoParticipantThose tricky Cavs, now they trade Bogans to the 76ers and instead of his deal that can be waived at any time they instead have the trade exception equivalent which is better for them financially.
Cleveland have been very active, and all of it has worked. The trade exception will be useful, maybe around the trade deadline they bring in some size.
The Cavs might have a few first rounders to offer in trades too, so they can send out even more picks and then bring in a veteran player without sending out money, due to the Bogans’ trade exception.

HitsterParticipantA few clever moves by the Cavs to give them future options, that nice trade exception could be used to add a piece whenever needed or to gain an asset to trade into a specific veteran type player they might be looking for.
The Celtics certainly have a large roster now so Brad Stevens and Danny Ainge will need to trim it during pre season. Again I think they are just aquiring assets for future moves and a lot depends on what happens to Rondo this year.
