Forgeting about the Anthony Bennett factor for a minute, do you think the Cavs would be better off with Wiggins than with Love. My feeling is they would be, both right now and in the future. Defense alone would make a huge difference and there is no reason that there needs to be a third big scorer on the team to make it effective. Add in the fact that Love will bolt for LA or another market if his inability to mesh in Cleveland continues. I have a feeling that the Cavs will regret that trade for some time to come.

Love is still a much better player than Wiggins right now.  I know Love is struggling, but the Cavs will figure out how to use him, at least a little bit better than they are currently.  And another offnesive weapon to the team doesn’t hurt.  Plus, they would be super thin down low without Love.  Bennett would be another chucker the team doesn’t need.  And I am not convinced is some game changing defender right now.  I guess I need to watch him more.  I will check him out vs. the Bucks, see how he does defending Giannis.  But, while his potential as an elite defender is undeniable, I don’t think a teenage SG is going to solve the Cavs’ defensive issues.  And, while Wiggins may be a lower usage player than Love, he is worse as a passer, so he isn’t solving the ball movement issue.

Long run, I kinda agree with you, though we will just have to see.  I am not convinced Love will bolt, because that would only hurt his chances of competing in the playoffs.  We will see how the Cavs do.  I’d be pretty surprised if the won a championship, but they have a shot in the upcoming years, as the East is really weak.

Neither Wiggins or Bennett are "defensive" players. To be honest, despite encouraging play, neither has shown to be especially good at anything. The problem with the Cavs isn’t the trade for Kevin Love; the problem is that they have too many Indians and not enough chiefs. And on top of that, they are trying to fit too many square pegs into a triangular hole. Hopefully they bring in the role players they need at the deadline.

Lol at Bennett being a defensive player.

    Should’ve traded Wiggins for Hibbert.

    Kyrie, Dion, LBJ, Varejao, Hibbert

Jeez. Cavs fans really can’t take a joke.  I suppose since their team is one right now!

They shuouldn’t have traded Wiggins, but the Pacers would have sent Hibbert to the Cavs for Waiters, Bennett, and 2 first rounders (the Cavs ones so they are late in the draft). The Pacers were supposedly shopping Hibbert last off season, and the Pacers needed (and still do need) a primary ball handler, hence Waiters actually has value to them. The Cavs lineup with Irving, Wiggins, James, Varejao and Hibbert would be a defensive monster, and with all the shooters that follow LBJ like Miller they could have gone small with James at PF and been a spacing offense as well.

Wiggins is looking like he will be a superstar, only way Cavs regret the trade is if they never win a championship.

They should trade LeBron James, Mike Miller, and Brendan Haywood to the Pelicans for Anthony Davis, Tyreke Evans, Jimmer Fredette, and Jeff Withey.

New small, ball starting five: Kyrie Irving, Dion Waiters, Tyreke Evans, Kevin Love, and Anthony Davis.

Bench: Dellavadova, Joe Harris, Shawn Marion, Tristan Thompson, and Anderson Varejo with Jeff Withey as a backup shot blocker and Jimmer as a backup 3 point shooter and point guard depth.  James Jones gives them 3 point shooting and championship experience off the bench as a 13th man.

No way in hell the Pelicans would give up Anthony Davis, even for Lebron.

In their ideal world, they could have traded for Love without giving up Wiggins. The Wolves did an amazing job at playing Golden State and Minnesota against each other. There was no way GS was going to match many packages Minnesota could offer. Klay Thompson wasn’t going anywhere. I really think the Cavs could have had Love and Wiggins. Good job Wolves.

I think it was Wiggins or nothing as far as Flip and the T-Wolves were concerned, Bennett’s potential wasn’t really a factor. I’d have doubted that Waiters, Bennett and Thompson could have swung the deal.

The interesting thing could have been pre-draft the Cavs go all out for K-Love and offered up first pick, would Flip have bitten then I wonder but without LBJ in place then there would have been a risk that Love didn’t stay. But with Love in situ then LeBron returning home would have been an easier deal for the Cavs to strike.
