hbomb3300ParticipantI just read that the Warriors have interest in Tristan Thompson. If I’m the Cavs I would do everything possible to make a trade for Harrison Barnes happen. Not only would it be a great fit but it would also make Kyrie happy since they are good friends and Kyrie lobbied for the front office to draft him in the first place. Here is a possible scenerio:
Cavs get:
Harrison Barnes
David Lee
Warriors get:
Tristan Thompson
Luo Deng
2014 top 3 protected 1st round pick
Possibly another pick
The Warriors get a solid veteran in Deng, a good young player in Tristan, and rid themselves of David Lee’s horrible contract.

MrManalo43Participantalthough, i don’t think "possibly anothe pick" is feasible. that’s just wishful thinking from a warriors fan.
evrything else seems fair enough.
young player for young player (Barnes is clearly better now and in the future)
established player for established player (Deng is a little better due to the fact that he actually plays D, even tho, Lee will give more offense)
the protected pick evens it out fairly IMO.

TyroberParticipantI think everyone is really under valuing Thompson and overvaluing Barnes here. Barnes currently has a PER of 10.52 and Thompson has one of 14.56. Both are below average at this point, but Barnes PER is just terrible. He had a great post season last year but he isn’t a future superstar which many people act like for some reason. I wanted him on the Cavs instead of Waiters and am still a huge fan of Barnes, but let’s not go crazy here. Deng for Lee is about even so that means you are thinking Barnes is worth Thompson + a top 3 protected first rounder? Thompson just appear to get any love from you guys.

hbomb3300ParticipantI do think Thompson is somewhat under-rated but I think he’s pretty much reached his ceiling while Barnes could be a very good player in the right situation and given some time. Also, you have to take making Kyrie happy into account since there have been whispers of him wanting out of Cleveland. There’s no question Barnes has a lot more value around the league so I think the first rounder would be necessary to get the deal done.

frogmanParticipantI don’t see how this helps the Warriors. David Lee (who is so underrated) fits the Warriors system much better than Thompson and where does Deng fit in with Iguodala already on the wing.
They would probably want Jarrett Jack back if some trade was going to go down.

hbomb3300ParticipantYou’re right… I didn’t think about Jack as a possibility since he played so well for the Warriors last year, but I doubt they would want his long term contract. I’m basing the trade on reading that the Warriors want to dump Lee’s contract, also their interest in Deng and Thompson in the past, and Barnes being in trade talks.

already this season. I read on Cbs sports that GSW is basically willing to give away Barnes as long as it is attached to shedding David Lee’s contract.
Also Charlotte really wants a starting wing and has offered Biyombo and Ben Gordon for Deng and Cleveland countered with MKG in place of Biyombo and sending all 4 of their 2nd rounders in 2014 back.

Scott42444Participantand that’s why Cleveland is going to be stuck with Deng. For them to actually expect Charlotte to view 3 months of Deng, worthy of ensuring they forfeit their 2014 1st rounder to the Bulls (even though they do have other picks most likely coming in the upcoming draft) and a 1st round playoff exit to be worthy of MKG (the #2 pick a year ago) and 2nd Rounders is a joke. I wouldn’t bother if I were Cleveland because I don’t believe Biyombo is really worth bringing in but Charlotte’s GM (Higgins?) probably just hung up the phone when he heard that.
You know, I hear some OUTRAGEOUS trade rumors on NBADraft.net sometimes but they really aren’t that much worse than the opening sales pitch NBA GM’s give to each other sometimes. It really is just to read the situation (you never start out with your best offer, expecting a counteroffer) but the ones I have heard (and am sure are real) are sometimes laugh out loud ridiculous. Both GM’s sometimes laugh, even when they don’t want to.

hbomb3300ParticipantThat is true that Deng can’t be traded with another player, but if the two teams really wanted to get this deal done there are ways around that rule. I’ve read the same thing about the Warriors being desperate to get rid of Lee’s contract so that’s one of the reasons I think this trade is actually plausable.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantSmith’s. He a good player but its long, real long. 15 million in 14/15 and 15. 5 in 15/16.
Barnes (PER 10) and Thompson are a wash and the trades would have to happen separately. Its essentially Deng a 14 million dollar expiring for Lee who is guaranteed 30 million over the next two years.
Varejao and Lee would compete for the worse comined rim potection in NBA history. Were talking lay up line. These are the two guys singled out at the last few Sloan conferences for having the worse rim protection in the NBA. If you combine that with the effort improved but still uninspiring perimeter Defense of Irving, Waiters and Jarret Jack. All that being said replace Barnes with Klay Thompson and its a done deal, no questions asked!
