Trade Talks Heating Up in Cleveland: We’ve heard the Cleveland Cavaliers mentioned in trade rumors for quite some time now but it appears that talks are finally starting to heat up. According to Brian Windhorst of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, discussions have intensified and made progress over the past several days.

The Cavaliers continue to talk with the Washington Wizards and Indiana Pacers but they’ve also reached out to the Houston Rockets and Detroit Pistons.

“The Cavs’ major targets are still believed to be forwards Antawn Jamison and Troy Murphy. But they also have had conversations about shooting guards and the talks with the Pistons could involve Richard Hamilton, who has been made available in recent weeks,” says Windhorst.

Hamilton would bring consistency and experience to Cleveland and could help them in their quest for a ring. While he has only played in twenty-four games for the Pistons, the Cavaliers know what he is capable of doing on a winning team as they’ve seen Detroit in the playoffs in each of the last four years.

The general feeling around the league is the Cavs will do something before the deadline, even if it means taking on a bad contract, to improve their team. Hamilton’s contracts would remain on the books until the 2012/13 season with the remaining three years of his deals paying him $12,650,000 each season. With that said, LeBron James is pushing for a trade and there’s very little that Cleveland wouldn’t do right now to keep him happy.

On a similar note, Michael Lee of the Washington Post is reporting while talks continue between Cleveland and Washington, “the Cavaliers have yet to make an offer to the Wizards.” Expect talks to get even more serious this weekend in Dallas. The whole league will be in one city and discussions always start up during All-Star weekend. While we likely won’t see any trades finalized, expect a lot of rumors and activity throughout the next three days and on Monday.

Does the Houston deal have anything to do with TMAC?

Rip is a player that needs plays run for him…If not he is a bad player and a chucker…For me, as a Cavs fan, I would hate this deal…So if you pick him up you have to tinker your whole playbook and you now have 3 or 4 players that need the ball to make plays(Williams, James, Shaq, and Rip) …For me the Cavs need a player that can guard stretch 4’s and create his own shot….

Though Rip’s contract is a bad one the Cavs are in win now mode. So I would take a starting lineup of Mo Williams-Rip-Lebron-Hickson-Shaq with Anthony Parker backing up Rip and they probably would still have Big Z and Daniel Gibson along with Jawad Williams and Leon Powe, and Varejao that’s 11 guys.

I did a trade in the trade machine where the Cavs get both Rip Hamilton and Antwan Jamison while they trade away Big Z, Hickson, West, and Jamario Moon. They would have a starting 5 of Mo Williams-Rip Hamilton-Lebron-Jamison-Shaq with Anthony Parker, Anderson Varejao, Daniel Gibson, Jawad Williams, and Leon Powe.

I wanted to know what others think of that as rotation for the cavs.
