Disclaimer: I have nothing against Dion Waiters as prospect or player. I just think him going to the Cavs at the 4th is pure baloney (bologna?)

First of All, I think that idea of the Cavaliers drafting Waiters at 4th is just plain silly. I think it’s a rumor spread by some Cavs personel in an attempt to get Beal without surrendering picks. By hyping up Waiters, the Wizards may actually think of grabbing Waiters with that pick, thus allowing the Cavs to draft Beal without sacrificing a 1st round pick.

    Why Waiters?

There are a couple of reasons the Cavs chose Waiters. Firstly, he’s a SG, just like Beal. But so are Lamb, Ross and Rivers. The thing that separates Waiters from the three is the mystery surrounding him. Just before the combine, Waiters shut down all his workouts claiming to have a lottery promise. Without any GMs personally seeing Waiters work out, its up to college tape and the imagination of the teams’ personnel to decide whether to draft Waiters or not. Other reasons include Lamb’s shoulder injury, Ross (a spectacular player) impossibility of going top 5, and Rivers’ ball domnance.

    What I think will happen

Barring a trade and/or the Bobcats selecting Beal 2nd, the Wizard will just move on and draft Beal with the 3rd pick and the Cavs will select either MKG or Barnes.

If he does select Waiters with the 4th Pick

I’m sorry for wasting your time and they probably drafted Waiters with the same reason they drafted Tristan Thompson last year.

Waiters projects better than the others because he’s stronger and tougher in the paint.

Not quite Wade as a player, but Wade-level toughness and that’s what NBA people like.

Even if it took Lebron 5 years to win a ring, Gilbert was going to be wrong. We all knew that. Gilbet is mad that he expected to make a lot of money riding Lebron’s skill and fame and he lost that. Lebron left because he was not getting the help he needed and as long as he played there and they went to the playoffs, they were making money and had no urgency to try harder to make the team great. They are trying harder now because they need to build Irving and other players to be cash cows too.usmle step 1 practice test usmle step 2 practice test usmle step 3 practice test

I also think that thoughts of Waiters going to the Cavs 4th overall are silly but I don’t buy the above reasoning. The Wizards aren’t going to change their draft board just because another team indicates serious interest in Waiters. If the Wiz like Beal at #3 then they’ll take him regardless of Waiters’ hype. If this is smoke and mirrors set up by Cleveland’s brass it’s probably a show of strength for the Bobcats benefit. The Cavs want to trade up to the #2 spot but Charlotte is asking for too much so they’re pretending to be quite satisfied with the #4 selection in hopes that the Bobcats will scale back their demands.
