Alright so with Kyrie being out the next couple of weeks I expect the Cavaliers to drop a lot of the remaining games thus giving us a decent draft pick. Here’s my question, if you’re the Cavaliers and you get a top five pick in the draft, who do you take? Where do you think the Cavaliers should concentrate on with their young team needing a lot of pieces still? PG and SG are obviously out considering I think Kyrie and Dion will be amazing in the future..your thoughts?

I forgot there is a small chance Greg Oden signs with them. There is a smaller chance he can stay healthy. But lets imagine this lineup at full health.

best player available. but then a lot of these players in the lottery are close. although i like the otto porter suggestion and he is also my first choice, if they are fifth in the top five there is the possibility he is not available. i wouldn’t pull the trigger on glenn robinson at that point unless he shows something to rise his stock dramatically. if shabazz is available he could be a good pick. i would consider anything though. cavs have a good front court but it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to draft zeller to pair up with bro zeller and thompson and injury prone varejao. that is still a young core that can grow together and would also allow varejao to be tradeable. if somehow mclemor is available he could be great in a three guard rotation with kyrie and waiters. oladipo could be considered for a defensive stopper on a guard rotation or even play a little small forward if they wanted to play small ball. i would target porter first, then bazz, mclemore and zeller in that order assuming nobody wants to trade in this weaker draft. i guess i would also not count out marcus smart. he may not be playing a position that the team needs like zeller, but his talent and game might prove to be undeniable if he fell in their laps outside the top four.

Really I would go with Porter, McLemore or Noel. Everybody else are just nice pieces. Oladipo is a stretch but he can help any team and fits the down hill guard scheme that Irving and Waiters bring at their best. Porter by far fits the biggest need and is just so smart. We are also only guaranteed two healthy bigs next year in Thompson and Zeller. Speights has a out clause, which he probably will and Wild Thing is unpredictable. If we get the one pick, I would call Charlotte and offer it for MKG. I would also say to entice them, throw in Tyrus Thomas and that Pistons pick. We could have a Baron Davis situation with that Pistons pick being only top one protected. Charlotte can’t amnesty him because they’re to cheap.

Caves have another 4 picks this year. So we will package a few and code out the draft with 2 rookies and hopefully a vet. I would take bazz. We don’t need a player who dibbles the ball, as kyrie and waters handles are great. We need side, strength and he has a nice J. I am of sold on Zeller yet so maybe a center

I went back and forth in my head about Bazz and I decided against it. He really just does many things that Waiters does and I don’t know if Bazz would be good for chemistry.

bazz could work. if kyrie didn’t have to score as much and he had a couple guys that can, then kyrie would contribute in other ways because he can and is more than capable of doing so. he looks to score right now because it is what is best for the team he is on. but of course you are so right about porter i can’t argue that pick either.

bazz could still have the ball in cleveland. you can have two or three scorers in the lineup at once. it sure beats one. and like i said before, if kyrie had another scorer besides waiters it could work. sometimes it would be with all three of them on the court at once and sometimes rotating with two on the court at the same time. it’s just relative to where the draft pick is and what they need and who the best player available is. bazz in the lineup beats alonzo gee.

Prior to this thread I was a hardcore Bazz supporter but now you’ve all swayed me towards Otto. Also like the idea of pairing the Zeller brothers up..great responses guys.

Porter seems like a nice fit. I think Zeller would be a nice fit, but I would much rather have Noel on my team. I know the Cavs really need a wing player and Porter seems to be a great fit, but I’d love to have Noel learning from Varejao for a few years.

But why wouldn’t Cleveland take Cody Zeller and wait for a SF next year with Wiggins, Parker and Randle all coming to College Basketball, Cody and Tyler Zeller would make for a good duo at Pf and C, Tristan Thompson and Mo Speights(If retained) would be a great rotation of big men without Varejoe(who I think stays with The Cavs due to injury concerns)

A 5 headed Big Man Rotation of the Zeller brothers, Tristan Thompson, Mo Speights and the Wild Thing Anderson Varejoe would be a very nice group of big men IMO…

Otto Porter is a solid piece to add too but he won’t really increase Ticket sales, win games on his own or make an Immediate impact so why not draft a BIG GUY with Size and Skill who will instantly fit right in with Cavs as he has a great PG and his big Brother to help in along, Tristan would benefit from being the Dirty worker while the Zeller’s run the floor like Gazelles…Both Zeller’s can play Pick and Pop/Roll with Irving or Waiters and the Cavs keep the SF role open for a Stud Prospect in 2014 or even a Free Agent like Andre Iguadola

The 76ers could also trade Ohio State alum Evan Turner for a few of those extra draft picks the Cavs own in the 1st(Not their Top 5 pick of course, that would be madness) Evan could help the Cavs at Sf while freeing up more cap room for the 76ers who will probably blow it up and let Bynum, Nick Young, Dorrell Wright and Company go in the summer…

Am I the only one that feels like the Cavs could be in a far better situation than they are? Tristans been a decent pick but they picked him a little to early, and Waiters… Im a huge Cuse fan but i honestly couldnt believe when he went 4th… Instead of Thompson i wouldve honeslty taken Jonas, Jan (who I swear will be good if the wizards ever give him consistant mins to gain confidence) and I loved Leonard coming out of SD state, i know that wouldve been a reach but so was Tristan. And Waiters i would’ve chosen Barnes, Lillard even tho he’s a PG they could probably make it work, and multiple other. I’m not saying that they will not be good players, I just feel like the Cavs like to reach on their draft choices

If the Cavs took Lillard with the fourth pick many Cavs fans would have killed themselves on the spot.
Waiters and Thompson are playing great this year, what’s the beef?

Porter or Bazz are very logical picks as mentioned numerous times above, also the temptation to add another Zeller brother could be interesting. Cleveland have so many picks due that I wonder if they will look to consolidate 2 or 3 of their 2nd first rounder via Miami and their two second rounders like they did last year to move up to the top 20.

I could see them maybe even looking for a Euro stasher such as Saric or Gobert if Chris Grant could position the 2nd first rounder in such a position.

With other picks due going forward, Cleveland have very little downside next year, they either progress or at worse end high up in the loaded 2014 draft with Wiggins and co.
