TarHeelRavenParticipantCarolina defeated Duke to win the outright conference regular season title by absolutely obliterating Duke in the paint. I don’t remember the stats but I think they doubled up Duke in rebounds and points in the paint. On the flip side, this is the worst three-point shooting team I have ever seen at Carolina. Marcus Paige continues his struggles going 1-9 from range. Joel Berry and Justin Jackson missed some threes badly. They were wide open looks Duke was giving them and just daring them to beat them from outside. As a team, Carolina shoots 28 percent from deep, 28 percent. It boggles my mind that UNC can’t hit wide open shots. It’s embarrassing to watch. A simple skill such has kncoking down a wide open jump shot has been overlooked at Carolina this year and I don’t know who should be blamed for this. Roy?? Hubert??

ph90702It’s pretty simple. Leon Rice at Boise State says that he doesn’t recruit guys who can’t shoot because you can’t teach them to shoot once they reach college age. North Carolina hasn’t recruited enough guys who can shoot.

DukeDaSquadParticipantThat Leon Rice statement is so untrue.

omphalosParticipantI think there is some truth to it in the sense that in the one and done era guys rarely spend enough time in college to be taught how to shoot properly.
It’s obviously different once they reach the NBA, but still.

Kokayne_DawkinzParticipantYeah there are tons of guys that became better shooters even after college.

airenn34ParticipantI think Joel Berry is shooting pretty well. Statistics may not show but his form looks good and he’s probably the only guy I trust. Yes I believe coaches are to blame. If last year was bad then this year is atrocious. No improvements then it has to be on them. I agree somwhat on what you said about recruiting. Why are we not going after shooters the caliber of a Kennard or a Scheyer. Last time UNC had a great shooter was Ellington. Hopefully Kenny Williams can develop but I havent even seen him knockdown a shot even with his limited minutes he’s out there.

BiggysmallsParticipantHonestly with how bad the Tar Heels shoot, its kind of amazing that they’ve had as much success as they’ve had this year.
Dead serious, Paige is broke now. Berry is feast or famine and he’s probably their best shooter.
It’s amazing that they can’t shoot because it’s not like they’ve got guys that take difficult or contested 3s either. They take stupid and quick ones at times but with how much attention Carolina’s big draw and how often they rebound their own misses, you’d think they’d be incredibly dangerous shooting kick-out 3s.
This has to be the worst shooting UNC team I can remember. They’ve always had very good wing talent capable of filling up the board to go with a point guard who gets the ball up the floor in a hurry. They play a big front line but a really small backcourt now and they don’t have that dynamic wing. Paige is a shell of himself and Jackson is more of a garbage man/transition guy at this point.

rickybobbyParticipantBesides Paige 7% drop and Jackson 3% drop everyone else has either improved their shooting or mainted around the same average. So it’s not like they haven’t improved in their time in college. Paige is just in some unseen long slump that i think has effected everyone else a bit. At the begining of the season they were hitting at a solid clip around 36% or so as a team, but once Paige started to tail off so did everyone else. They are now shooting 31% on the season and 28% in conference play.
As far as recruiting shooters UNC has tried hard to land some, but they all seem to choose to play elsewhere. Plus some guys just don’t shoot as expected. Jackson was thought of as a better shooter out of high school but he only shoots well in spans. Kenny Williams was suppose to be a lights out shooter and have been said to shoot it well in practice but he hasn’t made a three all year.
What’s wrong with this team is they are very inconsistent shooters. One game they are hot and then cold the next two. They have 5 guys (Paige,Jackson,Berry,Britt, Williams) who are capable of hitting 3’s on a consitent basis. But as we know the shots are simply not falling.

ncballerI pray we see the day when Paige, Berry, and Jackson are all on from 3 sometime this season. I know they are capable.
