Reports say Anthony has played his last game with OKC. One way or another they’re getting rid of him. What a horrible experiment.

Where to now? Seems like LAL is the logical choice. Finally get the chance to play with LeBron and he’s probably the one guy he’s sacrifice his ego to play with.

Of course don’t count out the Warriors. Minimum salary with the usual money under the table deal they like to do.

Lakers, GSW and Rockets would seem logical teams he’d like to get onto. Melo around the Big Baller guys would sure be entertaining and you’d need to add a 4th ball when Rondo, Ball, LBJ and Melo were on court.

But seriously Lakers could be a nice fit. Houston if they stretched Ryan Anderson would be strong suitors too given Melo’s links to CP3. GSW would also probably make him an offer as he’d give them scoring but would be want a locked in bench role.

Washington might have a look if they decided that likely adding D12 to take a low risk all in run for the East next year.

One wildcard if Melo did like NY than a short term deal with the Nets, he’d get some decent touches and as the team is in rebuild and the outlook may alter a lot next year then Melo could be a low risk option.

Melo should go to any team that wants to tank for the top pick.

The Thunder were Purchased for 350 million. Their salary and projected tax bill will total 300 million.

What the Thunder habe to dicide is to pay a total more of 122 mio for 2018/19 if they keep him and or save that number if they just waive him and stretch him over 3 years. I mean is this even a question? The only problem is this adds up the still immense payroll for the next two years and will cripple the financial flexibility relatively hefty. But honestly this is a must do thing for the franchise and who will miss him in OKC? On the other hand Melo for sure will hook up with one of LBJ, CP3 or maybe even Wade but in reality not in Miami. Still important for the Thunder to do this if they don’t find a trade to solve this problem and the Thunder flat out have no draft picks to offer in the near future.

      Great summary via

Eric Pincus (B/R) on why taxes will force the Thunder to part ways with Carmelo Anthony: “The solution may be simple: They can waive the veteran forward and stretch his salary out over three seasons at $9.3 million a year. Perhaps Anthony would accept a buyout worth the veteran’s minimum of $2.4 million, which he would be able to find elsewhere with a contending team looking for scoring (maybe to join LeBron James in Los Angeles). If so, that stretched number would dip to $8.5 million a season, and its impact on the Thunder’s 2018-19 payroll would be massive.

In addition to the $19.4 million dip in what they would pay Anthony over the next year, Oklahoma City would save nearly the equivalent amount in repeater taxes. The team’s total payroll would drop to about $140 million. More significantly, the progressive tax would fall to just $33 million. In total, the Thunder would be paying only $49 million in tax, with a total payroll of $189 million.

That’s still huge, but it’s $122 million cheaper than it would be to pay Anthony to stay. Is any player worth that much for one season?”

I think he ends up in Houston.. If he goes to the Warriors imma flip the fuck out. Don’t care how old he is, the Warriors need to lose some players not gain more.

I would assume the Lakers, Rockets, and Wizards are the favorites. There’s no chance he  goes to the Warriors. elo wouldn’t even consider it. I think the Wizrds would be an interesting fit. They would have nothing to lose.

I think the Lakers should sign him, but for some reason I could see them passing on Melo. I see a trade comming eventually for the Lakers in which they move one of their young pieces at least, so I think that’s another reason to take Melo.

Melo was interested in Houston last season and they lost Ariza recently. They brought back Green and still have Tucker. Melo would definitely fill a hole for them.

If the Bucks don’t bring back Jabari, they could bring in Melo and attempt to make a run to the Finals.

I think a lot of teams could use him at the vet minimum. Major steal. Role must be discussed before the signing though.

That’s totally to say that he is a steal for the vet min but after one year of Melo on my team I can assure you that the problems with his game will remain the same. He won’t be a focal point any where he goes and this won’t suit him well as we know and did I mention he is 34 years old…

To be honest he probably won’t move the needle anywhere he goes so ai could see a team like the Lakers passing on him.

He will have a tantrum when he is only offered the MLE. I hope he goes to China and gets found out there too.

Not really surprised.  I don’t think many teams will want him even if he is super cheap.  He can stuff the stat sheet but he is not a “winner”.  He always struck me as a very talented player who was really into himself but never really made the jump to team leader.  He is a ball-stopper and needs a system to be arranged around him to be happy.  I think that the only reason he went to OKC was because he hd so badly worn out his welcome with the knicks.  He really was forced out of new york.  I don’t see him on the Lakers at all because I don’t see Magic greenlighting that move.  It will be interesting to see where Anthony winds up but I think he is going to find himself in a Boogie Cousins kind of situation where teams aren’t going to be willing to build around him at this point in his career, and aren’t going to be thrilled to add him to their locker room.  We’ll see.  I think that it’s more likely he ends up on the Nets than the Lakers.

Miami would be interested. He’d be a great fit there. Playing with Dwade, some of the youngsters like Winslow and Tyler can cover for him in switches, and he’s got good rim protection in Bam and Whiteside (if he’s still there when the season starts) for when he gets blown by.

To be honest, I think the lakers really need another center. Relying on javale Magee, zubac and a rookie in Wagner to hold down the middle just isn’t going to cut it for a team with playoff aspirations. I’d rather see them use their remaining cap space to resign Brook Lopez. If there’s enough left over for melo on a min deal I’d consider it but you have to be really frank with him about what his role would be. Basically a situational spot up shooter who will play limited mins and you won’t run offense through. If he’s not ok with that he can go elsewhere.

You do not need cap space to sign someone to the veteran minimum; you use the veteran’s minimum exception. To your larger point, I agree bringing back López on a one year deal is the better use of their remaining space.

Melo isn’t going anywhere that he isn’t AT LEAST the 2nd scoring option. So that takes out HOU, GSW, WAS, LAL (unless they trade one or both of Ingram/Kuz)

Best options are MEM, DET or LAC

Melo is not a go to scorer at this point. If you are relying on him to be you won’t be very successful. But it’s possible that there could be interest from Miami.
