I’m really interested in how the season goes for him and his team. Despite what you may think about him when healthy the guy is a top 15 (top 10 in my opinion) player. He also happens to be one of if not my favorite player in the NBA. But, on the same token I also understand why people don’t like his game. But, I think this season with this roster could be a prime opportunity to show parts of his personality or his game that people haven’t seen before. The roster isn’t the best but for once the team has something it hasn’t had in a long time. Good young prospects. The team is pretty young and needs a leader. I think with Melo being the best player on his team and having been in the NBA the longest he’s gonna have to show the young guys how to be a professional in this league and show what it takes to win. (Granted he hasn’t won much either) I’m also hoping that with this Triangle offense he can also show that he does have the ability to help make the game easier for others. Granted he has been in the NBA since 2003 so you would think he had shown this by now. But I’m hopeful. What do you guys think?

Unfortunately for Melo, by the time the Knicks develop their young core and build a winning team, he would probably already passed his prime. I dont see the Knicks being a factor for atleast another 3-4 years, and I doubt they lure big free agents to quickly fix the team (they failed to even lure Greg Monroe and Wes Matthews). They can only hope they nailed the Porzingis pick and get another top 5 pick next year to get a Ben Simmons or a stud SG.

For the 2016 draft. Either the Raptors or the Nuggets are gonna get the Knicks’ 1st round pick this year. They at least keep all of their 1st rounders after that.

despite his huge contract… i would trade melo if i was the knicks… like JR Ryder said above.. the knicks still stink and wont be much of a factor until a few yrs from now.. melo is 31 and still in his prime.. u can still get value for him now.. sooner rather than later

Porzingis is a legit 7’2" so I think he could play a stretch 5 type role.  Williams and Anthony could both play 3/4 and Grant can also play 1/2.

The Knicks have some flexibility in their lineups.  I expect them around the 10th or 11th seed in the East, and if Melo lights it up, definitely have a chance at the 5th seed.

If I were Coach Fish, I would play Porzingis right away, mainly to avoid another Darko situation, and honestly I think they know they’re not winning anytime soon, so might as well put the most talented on the floor and see what they can do. I’d put him at the 4 and have either O’Quinn or Seraphin come off the bench behind RoLo.

Melo is one of those players that is highly talented, and skilled, but is just not a winner.  No killer instinct, not really a strong leader, and has failed to take over the Knicks and make it his team.  Yes, he has a huge contract.  Yes, he is good when healthy (like most NBA starters).  But he has failed to set himself apart from your average NBA starter.  What is frustrating about Melo is that I think everyone always viewed him as being on the cusp of stardom, but he just hasn’t achieved that level and it’s looking like he never will.

If I were Phil, I would ship him for as many draft picks as possible.  Melo would be better off on a strong team that is already a contender anyway.  That way, he could just blend in and get 15-20 points per game, 4-5 boards, and maybe a block every other game, and not have to worry about carrying the team.

 He’s defintely a Beta not an Alpha on a really good team. Similar to a Chris Bosh level guy. You could probably snag a lot for him if you dangle him in front of a team who really needs that second guy. I think the Pelicans would pretty much mortgage their next few drafts for him to get him next to AD.

 He’s had 12 years to prove that he’s a leader in the league, being the best player on his team every step of the way. He’s just not one.  You look at his style of play, listen to him talk and the dude just isn’t a born leader.  His way of getting his team back into a game is to try harder to score on offense.  He’s not wired to play make for others.  He is what he is defensively too.  No way he could be a captain on that end either. His personality lacks charisma.  He’s brooding, dull, doesn’t sound inspiring at all.  He looks like a guy who’d sulk instead of rallying the troops.

The OP just sounds like a whole lot of hope with no rhyme or reason. Melo has shown no indication that he could be a good leader for a young team.  I personally think he’ll ask for a trade before leading this Knicks’ team to anything of note.
