Maniac MaciejParticipantIf you are the Knicks, wouldn’t now be a really good time to trade him? Can he ever fit into a D’Antoni system?

torukParticipantNow he has a point guard to feed him, he played well with chauncey last year. GIve him a little time with Lin and let`s see how this work out.

EverybodyHatesChrisParticipantWhy would you trade the best player and scorer on your team when you finally get a true point guard? Now that Melo doesnt have to run point forward I think he will score more efficiently because he can play off the ball and Lin can set him up with open shots.

JrbenzCuse23The piece that doesn’t fit is Amare, I would trade him if they could find any team in the league that would take him. Selfish + ball dominant + diminishing skills= Baddddddd contract

BlazermannParticipantY would you trade a player like melo before trying to fit him into the system first?

EverybodyHatesChrisParticipantAmare Stoudemire isnt a selfish player and he’s not ball dominant. He may not be as dominating as he was on the suns, but he is still a great player and should not be traded. A lot of the problems the knicks had were caused because they didn’t have a true point guard who could get the ball to their main scorers. Lin seems to be a capable passer and is making everyone around him better and if he can set Jared Jeffries up to score I dont think it will be difficult for him to set up Amar’e and Melo.

Maniac MaciejParticipantThis is not a knock on Melo. I’m just not sure his style of play fits in D’Antoni’s system. Carmelo’s biggest strength is as a one-on-one offensive threat…something I don’t see being an important aspect of a Mike D’Antoni offensive system.
I also think Carmelo still has an immense amount of trade value, and could bring in 2-3 pieces that would be a better fit. Amare has much lower trade value at this point, but also has proven he is a very good D’Antoni system player…as long as he’s not playing with Carmelo.
Don’t worry, it won’t happen this season. They’ll let Carmelo come back, try to make it work, figure out that it doesn’t work, and try to trade him next season before the deadline.

Maniac MaciejParticipant"Y would you trade a player like melo before trying to fit him into the system first?"
I guess that’s my point. If you think it’s likely that he’s not a good fit, why wait to find out that he’s not a good fit? Especially when he has so much trade value.

TallmanNYCParticipantI don’t know if Lin can set up Melo, since I don’t think Melo really has a game that is based on anyone else setting him up. When Melo gets the ball he likes to settle in, do a few jab steps, measure up his guy and then take him. He isn’t going to be diving to the rim for an alley oop like chandler or jeffries. He will pick and pop, not shoot the ball, then create his own shot again. If he spaces by drifting out to the 3 point land, well he is a carrer 32% shooter there and shooting 30% this year. That is nothing special and of course Novak can shoot from range much better.
Melo and Billups played okay last year, but okay meant .500 ball and swept in first round of playoffs. Better than this year when Knicks were a .350 team prior to the Linsanity 7 and 0 run. But I think Knicks fans are hoping Lin plus Melo is better than the .500 ball we got from Billups plus Melo.

chall23ParticipantIn my opinion melo is the best pure basketball player in the nba… Trading him would be the worst possible move they could make…. maybe trading stat but i would see how it works first

M-EazyParticipantI swear this is my 2nd day coming up reallly and I’ve seen the dumbest trades…yeah let’s trade Carmelo for no reason just because ESPN wants to make a bigger story of Lin and started the whole "Carmelo is selfish"
It’s this dumbass at my job that said Melo is selfish because he only averages 4 assists a game…stop the madness

bball guyParticipantMelo has been garbage since he came to the NY. He needs to learn how to try hard and to be a good teammate

NYK2010ParticipantEven if your right about Mello not fitting the system why would you trade him now.
This wouldn’t be when you get the most for him after some injuries and an off year so far.
Mello will be okay with a PG, he knows if he’s a big ball hog he’s gonna hear about it in NY and all over the NBA.
He needs to average around 22-24 ppg and Amare 16-20 ppg. Remember scoring is down a lot this year.
Fields, Jeffries, Walker, Novak will all probably get less shots per game. Key is to let Lin run the offense still and Mello needs to drive, get into the post and stay away from so many iso plays where he holds the ball leave that for when the shot clock is below 5, mismatches and end of the qtr plays. That doesn’t mean just pass the ball and only shoot when your open, he’s too good for that.

JrbenzCuse23Dude im sorry i dont want to get a million more negatIve "points" but if you are defending amares play on here you either 1. Have not watched the knicks once this seaaon or 2. Know nothing at all about basketball the reason nobody is talking bout trading him is because he has zero trade value
