valentineAs I’m sitting on this plane ride back to Utah and enjoying this free gogo wireless Internet i must talk about some of the things i saw while watching the 76classic in Anaheim. Manly Dwight Powell
This kid is not gonna be there for four years. I wont even be surprised if hes there for only two years. As some of y’all know he was a top 30 player in h.s as a center and was recruited to play center and power forward. He’s now the starting Small forward for Stanford and looks like its the perfect fit for him. He brings the ball up on the press and drives pass guys who are 6’6 and shorter like they are stuck in mud. His range extends to the three point line but its not his strength and he realizes this so he has developed a pull up jumper off the dribble as well as a deadly finger roll. After watching and listing to some of the NBA scouts there he is higher on there radar then he was before because instead of being a 6’10 center/pf he is a 6’10 sf. I always knew he had good handles for a big man but i never really thought he would be able to move to the small forward so easily. He also defends small forwards very well because of his quick feet and long arms and he also defends shooting guards. He shows a couple freshmen mistakes every so often and he defers to some of the older players because he’s a freshman but eventually he will learn to take it upon his self to lead the team on the days that Jeremy Green is off.

OhCanada-ParticipantAlot of people label him as a longterm college player, A because they are unaware of his skills, B because he is going to Stanford. Powell is an exceptional young talented Freshman and I believe if he can put alot of wieght and strength on his fragile frame he cna be a one and done. That is very unlikely to happen but Powell is likely to be a 2012 Lottery Pick.

stanford hoopsPowell isnt a one and done even with weight. you can see he has the potential to be good down the road but he is not a one and done by any stretch of the imagination. A two and done would be a big shock

stanford hoopsAll Stanford kids are really smart kids. Its harder to get int here then it is Harvard( my nephew was considering both and Stanford restrictions made it harder to get in) with that said
casey jacobson
lopez twins
josh childress
all left early The NBA is more attractive then Finishing school in a four year time if youre smart or average because in the end money and the dream of playing in the nba is more important to 99.9 percent of players

llperezlooking forward to seeing him. I’ve only seen hs highlights and most of those looked like a quick skinny guy who preferred taking his man off the bounce then a banger in the paint.
