TruettParticipantI am just going to say it… The warriors shouldn’t trade him. He is prob a top 3 combo guard in the league and Curry is not healthy.. Additionally, no one can agree on his value. Even warriors fans either love him or hate him…& of course opposing fan bases think that he should be had for pennies on the dollar. I defy someone to post a deal for Monta that addresses the warriors needs (Center) while being fair and reasonable for both teams and stay within the cap.
Instead, why don’t they keep him? Its not like they are making the playoffs this year anyways? They still have a shot to win the lottery (and thus, keep their 1st round pick[top seven protected]) Additionally, they are going to have around $12m plus however much the cap increases as well as their exception in the offseason. There are some decent Centers not named Dwight who are available this year, they should be able to make a move on one of them…They also have a deeeeeeeep project with a high ceiling in Jeremy Tyler. He might be their answer in a year or two. Finally, Monta has one of the best contracts in the league at $11m per. When you get up there with talents like his, you are usually overpaying… I think in this case it is an underpay. The west is getting weaker by the year and will be much weaker if Dwight goes to BK. If the Warriors can find a center in the offseason they should make the playoffs barring serious injury. If they make the playoffs, the GM and Mark Jackson get extensions.
Granted these are all a bunch of ‘ifs’ but wouldn’t you want to take a risk on them when the possible reward is greater and the alternative is letting another team benefit from his talent and cheap contract, when they want to give you less back talent wise?
Acceptable premises to challenge: 1. That no good trade exists and; 2. That they will be able to get a center in the offseason and; 3. getting a center is enough to get them in the playoffs (barring injuries) and finally; 4. Monta is not a top 3 combo guard (top 5 in my book are Wade, Westbrook, Monta, Manu(hurt this year getting up there in age), Evans)…. Just please dont turn this into a discussion on Jeremy Tyler’s potential…

TallmanNYCParticipantIf Curry keeps getting hurt then these trade rumors might actually die. Monta and Curry don’t make sense as a backcourt, so that is why there will always be Monta trade rumors as long as Curry is healthy. But Curry seems to have some problems with his wheels. I’d be nervous about that if I were GSW GM.

burningfloodParticipantI would like to do a Monta for Rondo swap. Rondo can guard 2s, Curry can guard 1s, and they would be great together, I think.
For the record, no trade’s probably going to go down. But speculating on this is so much fun, especially when we’re mired in a cycle of suckage.
I wouldn’t mind trying to do a rental for Dwight if it meant getting rid of Biedrins, Lee and Ellis. Then if he walks we can do a legitimate rebuild instead of being stuck in lottery mediocrity forever.

cstyle96ParticipantYeah but the Magic can go after O.J MAYO . OR ERIC GORDAN.
IF Dwight LeAVE!!!
But i dont think Monta Ellis and Biedrians is a good deal…
They gotta start over. DRAFT PICKS. AND A UPCOMING STAR .

F_DA_POParticipantcurry and rondo? Why the hell do you want two PGs? Neither of them should be playing SG. Also, Boston gets hosed. No way the Twolves get Ellis that easily
also, I love how people say "IF" dwight leaves…. It’s not a question

TruettParticipantMonta is a combo, meaning he can do some point guard things but not all of them… Rondo is a very good point guard running a conmplicated offensive scheme in boston… I dont think you could expect Monta to come in and run the offense the same way and because of that you don’t make the trade if you are boston(straight up for monta)…additionally(in the three way scenario), a lot of the talent you are getting back is expiring contracts and you would not have enough time to evaluate them all so you would be left with the choice of paying them without knowing if they work for you or letting them walk…you dont make the trade if you are GS because then you would have two pointguards…AND YOU STILL DO NOT HAVE A CENTER WHICH WAS A PREREQUSITE FOR MAKING THE TRADE IN THIS THREAD!!!
you would prob make the trade if you were minnesota…even as nice as pekovic has been.
the second trade was a bunch of expiring contracts… why would you go through all that work and the potential damaging consequences which can arise out of shopping your players if you can get the player in a few months in free agency… This is what I was talking about.. it is just about too late to make the playoffs, so unless you are getting some bird rights, trading a player like monta whom you have locked up at a fixed rate for 3 years for a rental big is a huge waste… Also there is no team that you can just "dump beindrins on.."
Finally, If you think Monta having three years at the same rate is too long..think about the fact that he is 26 and then whether or not you think he could get more if he was a free agent right now… If you think he could get more… then he is a steal..I would wager heavily that if you offered Monta for Joe Johnson the hawks would take it.

burningfloodParticipantI’d rather get Rondo now and try for a Hibbert or a McGee in the offseason. Maybe it’s just me, but I really do think that Rondo and Curry can coexist in the backcourt.
Of course I’d trade Monta, Lee and Biedrins to Orlando for Dwight and expirings.

Meditated StatesParticipantI like Beasly, but seriously. They will keep Rondo unless a great deal comes up. He is not the problem the media is trying to say he is. He is well liked here in Boston and only would be moved if they get a star back. C’s are not as desperate as people are talking. They are going to have a lot of money to play around with if they just stay put.

cstyle96ParticipantIll was just giving a idea for the Celtics too start off too get young players in the offseason and ditch some money.
Rondo is not yall future star yall team is not gonna win a 7 game series against the PACERS OR Heat.
So how about the warriors do a trade with us .
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7dekbr6
WOLVES: Get a Center with mintues that Nekio was getting Biedrians will be a solid player. I saw his stats. with 44 mins he will average a double double almost every night .And Monta Ellis will add some more fire power with his ability to score.
WARRIORS: They get Beasly, Randolf, Milic, Nekio they are solid role players . And Beasly and Curry together will be a killer young squad. for the future . Oakland fits Beasly.
