r377ParticipantCan we agree to call BUST on the following players ? Or will some turn their career’s around ?
I think the definition of bust is where they were actually drafted. eg. expectations would be much higher for a 3rd overall selection vs a 22nd overall selection….
2013
Anthony Bennett
Tim Hardaway2012
Waiters
T-Rob
T-Ross
Rivers
Kendall Marhsall
Royce White (remember him)
Fab Melo
John Jenkins
Perry Jones2011
Derrick Williams (has been better of late in NY)
Veseley
Jimmer
Singleton
Nolan Smith
Marshon Brooks
Jordan Hamilton2010
Wes Johnson
Udoh
Cole Adridge
Xavier Henry
Babbit

marcusfizer21ParticipantTim Hardaway Jr. was a mid-first round pick. I wouldn’t call him a bust. He’s pretty decent IMO

llperezmy thoughts on some of those guys:
cole adrich: I remember thinking so highly of him in college. He was putting up numbers that definitely had me thinking he was much more hten just your basic big man stiff good for boards and setting screens which is what he has become.
craig brackins: I loved this guys game in college. He was long and could really shoot it and was a good athlete. I felt like he could be a nice floor spacer who could also get up and finish over the rim.
Xavier henry: never cared much for him in college or his first couple years in the league but when he joined the lakers a few years back he was one of my favorite guys on the team. He defended really well, attacked the rim and actually shot it well. He averaged 10ppg in just 21 minutes for the lakers and I thought we had a nice young guy to keep around but his second year he was injured and didn’t look the same.
Nolan smith: never cared for his game at all, I don’t even consider him a bust.
Royce white: I was intrigued like everyone by his all around game but concerned about the attitude stuff. I remember bill simmons ripping his Celtics for not taking him. Simmons also wrote an entire lengthy article saying how paul George being drafted ahead of Xavier henry was yet further proof how inept nba gm’s were. Simmons loves to be smug and thinks he knows everything so I always remember when he swings airballs on prospects like he does routinely.
dion waiters: weeks prior to the draft waiters shut down his workouts and rumors were flying that he had a promise from the suns late lotto. I thought the suns were crazy. Then the day of the draft he ends up going much higher all the way at 4, I think everyone was surprised.
john Jenkins: I thought for sure he find himself a nice spot as role player. His shot was so nice.
Anthony Bennett has obviously been a bust, but that was a draft where nobody knew who should go #1. I mean there were arguments for like 8 different players to go #1. I actually felt alex len should go #1 because I figured worst case scenario was he would at least be serviceable center which are always valued.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantCeltics never actually had the chance to draft White. He went 16th to the rockets and they didn’t pick until 20. I do remember how in love Simmons was with white’s game before the draft and how disappointed he was when he wasn’t around for the Celtics to take, which turned out to be a huge blessing in disguise. I also remember him saying that emeka okafor should of went first over Dwight Howard.
Simmons is opinionated and sometimes he turns out to be wrong. However, the one thing I’ll say about him though is at least he will admit it and even poke fun at himself when he’s wrong unlike some of these other draft guru’s (ahem jay bilas).

Hype MachineVesely is better than half the big-men in the NBA.
If he wanted, he could easily attract a 10m per season contract.
Watch some Euroleague….I can’t say why things didnt work out for him in the NBA on the first run but he is a great player.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantYeah I just read that he was named Euroleague player of the month in January. Then again Nando de Colo and Alexey Schved are also playing really well in Euroleague. Some players just aren’t cut out for the NBA.

mamadouParticipantHaha.
I know what i was thinking and it was Kawhi, pure team need at that time.
They selected chris Singleton wth their 2nd pick, he even started 51 games….averaging 4 and 3.
Ouch.

llperezthey didn’t cut him for boozer, it was between marshall and Jordan Clarkson for the #3 pg spot behind nash and lin who were supposed to share the primary pg duties on the roster and Clarkson outplayed marshall in preseason and won the 3rd string spot. They didn’t want to carry 4 pg’s so marshall was let go.

The Garbage ManParticipantDerrick Williams was taken top 5, now he’s a decent bench player for the Knicks, he’s a bust.

MJBrownParticipantPlayers not drafted in the lottery shouldn’t be considered busts. If more had been expected of them, they would have been drafted earlier. How is Nolan Smith a bust?? We has drafted in the 20’s. Nothing was ever expected of him!! He just never panned out. That’s different from being a bust. Top 3 picks who aren’t starting on their teams are busts. They are drafted that early to be difference makers and potential stars/all stars. Derrick Williams is definitely a bust at this point in his career. Anthony Bennett — Wow, I don’t care how weak the draft was.
Furthermore, players like Kendall Marshall shouldn’t be considered busts either. He should have never been a lottery pick to begin with. If one GM sees something in a player to draft him too early, and the consensus proves right, it’s not the players fault, it’s the GM’s.0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/04/2016 - 6:46am #1040834

Jr. ROXASParticipantOh man Marshon Brooks.. I remember being so high on this guy as the future of Nets basketball alongside D-Will. His rookie year, at times at least he looked like a young Kobe really. Then came the Joe Johnson and Gerald Wallace trade and was put in the pine smh. There is no reason for this guy to be out of the NBA. He just needs the opportunity to show his stuff.

JordoParticipantThe only picks I disagree with are the late round picks. If you get a guy with top 5 potential fall to the bottom and he doesn’t pan out you don’t lose much of anything and therefore can’t be bust.
