SupParticipantThe team has great balance, and Steve Kerr knows basketball. And there are a lot of weak teams out there, can the Warriors (19-2) win 70?

TRC1991ParticipantGreat question. Would be a hell of an accomplishment. I can’t say yes or no. It will be a heck of a challenge.

thricethefunParticipantHave you seen the Western conference they are playing against? They’d be lucky to win 60.

nick5354Participant19-2 is a great start but 70 is insane. Only that unreal Bulls team are the team to win 70+ games.
To win 70 games you will enter the realm of greatest teams ever, so although they a very good basketball team who should be touching on 60 games terrority, 70 is little far fetched.

JCliff24ParticipantIts very easy to dismiss the though of winning 70 games simply because its only been done once before but with over a quarter of the games finished, this team is on pace for SEVENTY FOUR wins. Its still a feat only accomplished once, and that says a lot. I’ll give them 67 wins.

MkadozaParticipantThe Warriors are one Andrew Bogut tweek away from this being a moot point. He’s absolutely been steller defensively and is to me the key to their transition from a outscore-you team to a straight-beat-you team. Think Nash’s Suns vs last year’s Spurs.

RUDEBOY_Participanti didnt start taking them seriously until they dominated the bulls a week ago..
i doubt they’ll win 70,maybe 60-65…they have 62 games remaining, and will see 29 + teams with 500 records….

cabbycabParticipantYikes… I was waiting for a 3-4 game losing streak but they just keep rolling. I’m gonna say around 62 games. This team reminds me of that Phoenix team when Barkely just got there. There is a renewed sense of energy and excitment and they can score in so many ways.

Reptilian MonkParticipantI don’t think the Warriors will win 70. Very slim chance of doing so. The Western Conference is stacked. The 14 game win streak has been primarily against the weak Eastern Conference. Only two good wins were against the Bulls and a Dwight Howard-less Rockets at home. We will find out more soon when they play some of the top teams from the west like Dallas, Clippers, and Memphis on the road.

Memphis MadnessParticipantIf anyone knows what it is like to win 70 games its Steve Kerr. He was on that 72 win Bulls team (he also has a personal 4 peat).
If they take it one game at a time and stay healthy then anything is possible.
Lots of good teams out West, but other than Memphis, the Warriors might be the only team that is BETTER than it was last year. Maybe the Mavs, too.
They could split road games against the top 3 or 4 West teams and STILL get close to 70 wins as long as they DOMINATE their home floor.
So Steve Kerr is the early Coach of the Year favorite. Or, Dave Joerger.

Memphis MadnessParticipantEven though they are in the West, they aren’t in the Division of Death like the Grizzies, Spurs, Rockets, Mavs, or Pelicans.
The Warriors are in a SOLID division but nothing too terrible. Clippers, Suns, Kings, and Lakers. Why can’t the Warriors win ALL those games?
The Central Division out East is actually a really good division at the top with Chicago and Cleveland of course, but the Bucks are young, athletic, and well coached. The Grizzlies have already lost to them once.

Checkbook_docParticipantThere are two reasons they won’t get 70.
1) Injury – It takes a lot of luck for a team to stay healthy for an entire year.
2) The Bulls had Jordan who wanted to kill everybody he faced and was going to crush physically, verbally, and emotionally any of his teammates that didn’t bring it. All of his teammates were afraid of him. I don’t see anyone on the Warriors who is willing and able to drive the team that hard. They are a really good team playing nutz right now, but I don’t see the same killer instinct that the Bulls had.

SkalAndJamalParticipantRemember how bad the Bobcats were when they first were added to the league? Yea 1996 I believe the NBA recently added 5 teams = to the 2005 bobcats.
UK would blow out those teams.
While Warriors have to consistently play against the 6 other amazing western conference teams. GSW literally cant afford a day off unless they are play Philly and MCW is out. Chicago every once in a while, did. Expect GSW to get lose #3 at Dallas this saturday.
PS GSW might not even be the best team in the league, Houston might be once Dwight comes back. No way the 2nd best regular season team gets 70 wins.

benny15Participantdid you just imply that a team thats not even number one in their conference, not even number one in their division is the top team in the league?
yes houston is of to a great start and honestly playing better than what i expected, but saying once someone comes back they might be the best doesnt really say much. someone could easily say that once westbrook and durant get to regular form they might be the best. or once san antonio gets into their usuall groove they might be the best. or that if the clippers dont go back to their early season shooting slump, they might be the best.
with those three teams plus the warriors and rockets, they all fall under "might be the best" category, and at least one of them will certainly not get home court advantage in the play-offs and i dint even include a "might be the best" scenario for any eastern team or the defensive juggernaught of the league in Memphis.

SkalAndJamalParticipant"did you just imply that a team thats not even number one in their conference, not even number one in their division is the top team in the league?"
Calm down that isn’t even far fetched. Houston is 17-5, and Memphis is 17-4.
What it was just like a month ago Houston was off to a great start and they were looking like the best REGULAR season team. And they are still playing great with Tarik Black in there instead of Dwight Howard. Dwight hasn’t even played in like the past 10 games.
There hasn’t been any indication to say it unreasonable to believe that if Dwight was there, since they are 9-1 with him THIS SEASON, they wouldn’t be playing top NBA basketball with the Warriors.

benny15ParticipantI’m not trying to discredit the rockets’ hot start, I applaud them for it. Could they be the best team in the west by seasons end? Yes they got a shot. But are they the only ones? No, not even close. In fact, You haven’t provided any reason to indicate that it’s unreasonable to believe that the warriors won’t be that team. At least not any that doesn’t apply to the rockets as well.
You simply said that 1 team that’s doing well might not be the best without giving reason and went onto say that another would be. I’m just curious as to know why? What’s your trend of thought. Why should warrior fans feel that their team might not be the best and rocket fans should feel that theirs might be the one though.

cozmojimParticipantThe Dubs have a brutal 5 game stretch up next. If they get to 24-2 I’ll be a really impressed. But 70 wins seems a little unattainable. At this point 7 teams in the west are on pace for 59 or more wins (Okc is not one of these teams). They will all canabalise each other.

HitsterParticipantBoston started a season something like 25-2 early in the KG/PP/Ray Allen era but didn’t get near to 70 wins. I recall the Kobe/D12 Lakers being tipped for a huge amount of wins.
GSW look to have taken another step forward already this season and won 51 games last year so 60 wins could be seen as a legit target but 70 wins would seem a step too far.
As a fun point do we think the most successful team this season will lose less games than Philly win?
My initial thought is Philly will lose more games.

nill650Participant60 is much more reasonable c’mon… If they have 70 wins I would be slightly surprised because its just too much and unecessary minutes on key players…If they can sustain their current dominance throughout the reg season if they did’nt have to play in the postseason ,but when the playoffs start they will be destroyed without less time played by each key player in the last 20 games of the reg season.
UNless Kerr limits minutes and they still keep winning, but that seems unlikely.

aamir543ParticipantAs great as the Warriors have looked, winning more than 65 games in this West could objectively qualify as the most successful regular season ever. There are just too many great teams, although if any team could do it, the Warriors have the bench depth to do so when David Lee comes back. It’ll be interesting to see how Kerr manages giving Mo Speights and Lee minutes. And with Draymond being a knockdown 4, it’s almost impossible to stop sSeph on pick and rolls.
