I don’t get it…both teams have two good young centers and both teams have massive holes at the PF position…i would think they would love to get either Vonleh or Randle…with the 3 and 4 th picks…what am i missing here…please enlighten me …

He could turn out to be the best player in this draft…  but I agree, if I was the GM of either team I wouldn’t risk it.  I think the Celtics pick is a nice balance of need/risk for Embiid.

its not surprising why these teams are always in the lottery and teams like OKC and Spurs find gems in the later first round…I agree Boston picking Embiid makes sense and its a good calculated risk..but the other teams given their centers they risk missing out on some very talented power forwards ..i like both of those guys…Vonleh even more cause he seems like more of a stretch 4 with shooting capability

fan I would highly prefer they trade down to a spot they can still get Randle and pick someone/something up in the process. I was ok with Noel sitting the whole year because they got an extra pick in the deal, I really don’t want them to draft another player that sits the whole year.

Embiid is by far the best prospect in the draft outside of his health issues. Since he is a health risk lesser players are being considered ahead of him. At some point in the draft the risk/reward balance is worth it. I’m not sure if that balance is reached before Exum, but if Hinkie thinks that it is then I am fine with it.

My hopes and expectations have been thrown for a loop since Embiid’s foot problem, but from my perspective as a Sixers fan, I want to trade up for Wiggins as my first choice, followed by Exum and then Embiid.

Not sure about the Magic (since they already got Vucevic at center) but I could easily see Philly pairing Embiid with Noel (who’s basically a PF/C) to form a dangerous frontline for the future. Of course, considering Noels injury last year, Im sure Philly is very concerned about that.

Joel is the best center prospect since Dwight Howard

A healthy Joel, unlike Nik Vucevic – has the potential to be a franchise player

You need to weigh that potential vs the injury risk

And the draft is about rolling the dice on potential

I also prefer they trade for Wiggins, but I think the price is too high. Thad, 3, 10, plus perhaps more is just too much. If they do a deal similar to this Hinkie has to be damn sure Noel, Wiggins, MCW is going to be a great core.

A- Embid has more upside than anyone in this draft.

B- Drafting for need is a Fool’s Errand

C- If you don’t, and he gets healthy and performs to rating, GM gets fired.

D- He can play 4 with a little more experience

E- Philly can’t pick a big at 10 if they don’t get one of big 3

F-Z gotta wait cause I gotta get home.

If he’s there at 3, which is def not a fait accompli, Sixers get real lucky. You hear me Hinkie?

Best bet for him is a guy in a twin towers lineup that shoots outside a bit and defends power forwards instead of centers.  Like a Ralph Sampson or something.

When you’re a crappy team you draft the best player not by need, that’s how you continue to suck and get fired. If I’m Orlando I draft whoever I think is the best player. So if that’s Emiid than yes regardless or who you have. Not like Noel is a proven player and Vucivic is a solid player but not a cornerstone player by any means.

As a Sixers fan I can say drafting Embiid does make sense for them on paper. First off he has the highest potential in the draft and the Sixers are in this for the long haul, and seem to be willing to wait for his injury to heal, they may just sit him out all season becasue as bad as the east is if the Sixers make the playoffs they lose their first round pick via Arnett Moultrie trade, so drafting Embiid makes them even worse next season as he may not even play. Secondly I think the Embiid Nerlens combo works alot better on paper anyway than most people think. As much work as Noel has put in putting on weight he is still thin shouldered and probally wil never develop the body to bang down low with some NBA centers. But Noel is such a gifted athlete that he could easily defend most fours. Drafting Embiid makes alot of sense defensively as he has a better body to be the primary post defender better than Noel anyway in terms of frame and Noels athletism he will make a great weakside defender with he shot blocking coming with the PF postion. So Embiid would be the primary post defender and Noel would be the weakside helper/shot blocker. Offensively is a different story however. At first spacing would be a major issue but Embiid has shown range with a midrange jumper at least and who knows with Noel but Brett Brown did rework his jumper so he may eventually develop some midrange. Initially the two would switch, Embiid would play the role of PF some post game midrange etc and Noel would be the center scapping and doing hustle plays. It is a very complicated situation but it is a real shot for the moon type of gamble. Defensivly this tandum could be something never seen, two super athletic bigman would can gaurd 4 or 5 with great shotblocking potential. On offense the combo my never be great together but I thin they could be good or atlest servicable. Sorry for the very long explantion but the combonation does make sense becasue if they both work out …. look out.

convinced. Go with the high upside of Embiid and see what happens. If he doesn’t play all year at least you have Noel and pick 10 as newcomers plus they’ll sign some vets. They’ll win less than 20 games again next year but they want to be in next year’s lotto, so they don’t lose the pick to Boston.
