You would think some of these NBA executives would learn by now, he isnt going to make you a better team. In fact most of the teams, if not all, ended up getting better the second he left. He is a massively overrated player who is extremely selfish. The guy doesn’t care about anything other than getting his 20+ points a game, I also think he cares more about his personal stats then winning championships. That’s clear from over the years, otherwise he would adapt and start playing better team ball and sacrificing more to win a championship. His heart is only in it for himself and the money, wich is fine, but  guys who care about winning more end up sacrificing more, and as a result they have a better chance of winning a championship and they still get paid. Mello never attempted to learn that lesson. Clearly Okc save more money in taxes than what they pay him by just letting him go. Of course, a trade is the best option but letting him go is the second best. Teams are willing to pay crazy luxury tax only when they are dealing with the top 5 players. To me Carmelo is a one dimensional player and at this point in his career  he’s a come off the bench player at best. He’s never been able to thrive with another great/good teammate in the lineup. His best days are definitely over. Some say Houston would be a better fit because they play more iso ball and after losing Luc rich and Ariza the shots could definitely be there..how do you utilize melo because Olympic melo can’t be sustained

No one will give OKC talent for Melo. OKC won’t take back money. So how is a trade going to happen?

Who says they won’t take back money? Both a buyout and stretch provision would keep money on the payroll. I think they just want a better fit frankly.

I don’t know if any teams still have sizable cap space, but I could see someone who expects to be bad to give up some marginal talent in exchange for Melo and at least one first round pick.

If we keep Melo-We get destroyed tax wise apparently the same as what the owner paid for the team lol.

But the positive if there is any lol is that we keep our starting 5 intact and can build on the chemistry from last season meaning at least a slightly higher chance of success…However if he is somehow or way kept I would make it very clear if you are getting owned by the other team we will ride with the lineup which is working better and you are coming off the bench…

If we trade him to someone-Apparent favourites are Bulls,Heat,Hawks,Nets or Rockets we will get a lower tax bill or at least a more playable player…

Bulls rumors-Cristano and Portis who they may not want to pay(since they just picked up Jabari could make sense) for Melo and a future pick.

Heat- For two of these mentioned players: Kelly O,Waiters,Tyler J and James Johnson…

Rockets-Ryan Anderson and most Likely Eric G-they would have to move something of value to get of the future cap hit of Anderson for Melo and something else from us.

Nets-But if they would actually do this trade after the Nuggets deal is not so clear now..As there was a Lin deal mentioned before this. But Personally I wouldn’t mind going for Faried and something else for Melo and a future first or rights to swap picks at some point..

Hawks-Bazemore or Lin for Melo and a future pick…This gets them off Bazemores deal or allows them to get another asset if they don’t want to keep Lin.

Buy out situaton- This is more of risk than reward, The risk is if Melo fits in better there somehow we just gave a rival a key piece to beat us and their rivals. The Reward if he goes there and makes them majorly worse this helps us out lol

I don’t think a trade is possible. I don’t know what OKC is demanding in return but I dont think they’ll get it. Melo’s value seems to be diminished around the league, especially at $28mil. A buyout/ waive and stretch seems to be reasonable.

On the other hand, I may be one of the one of the only people that don’t think Melo is washed up. I think last season was his worst season ever and part of the reason was that it was in OKC. I can’t judge him off that season. It was a big adjustment where he was basically the 3rd option and had the ball in hands less than ever. I don’t think he’s a first option anymore but he’s still an elite scorer.

Teams that I think could benefit by signing Melo:

Rockets: Rockets loss Ariza and Luc. Melo doesn’t provide the defense they could, but he brings more shot making and will force the defense to think twice about leaving him the way they left Ariza.

Wizrds: Wizards have a lot of talent and think they can make a run in the East. They added Dwight, Jeff Green and Austin Rivers. They already have Otto Porter and Kelly Oubre, Melo could bring more scoring punch and more eperience to that group, starting at the 3 or 4, or coming off the bench. I don’t think they would consider it, but the Celtics are extremely deep and to beat them, you need to be deep as well.

Bucks: They loss Jabari to the Bulls and need more consistent scoring and shooting. Melo would be a sneaky good addition.

Pelicans: Rondo and Boogie have departed. Mirotic came over aand provideed some great shooting that they desperately needed. Their biggest weakness has always been the 3 spot. Melo could be a great piece if they are serious about making a run.

Sixers: They missed out on Bron, PG, and Kawhi. They could take a flyer on Melo, highly doubt it though.

    TrailBlazers: Why not add talent?

Grizzlies: Memphis could use some shooting and scoring on the wing. They don’t have it period. I’m not sure if they are trending upwards or down. They still have Conley and Gasol. They drafted Jaren Jackson Jr and added Kyle Anderson. I don’t ee where Melo culd hurt them. Low risk, Medium-High Reward.

I guess my whole point is why not add great but cheap talent to your team? That’s if your goal is really to win it all. You have to have chemistry, a good system, and TALENT. A lot of teams simply lack talent the challenege Golden State.

What about Melo for George Hill in some form of a trade… Cavs need a SF to replace LeBron, Thunder can use a combo guard in the mold of Hill who can play on or off the ball…

Would love to Get George Hill or Dennis Shcroder as the 6th man but I Doubt Melo would waive his No trade clause to goto a horrible defensive team like the Cavs.. not even sure the Cavs will make the playoffs in the east. Atlanta would be a buyout candidate
