Do you think Mayo down the line will benefit from playing the PG position?

if he learns how to play it and even if it takes longer he’ll be able to matchup better since he isn’t the biggest SG out there most of the time, but another Undersized Shooting Guard will join him next year and he can learn from him, him being Mr. Allen Iverson! I think he’ll show him how to be a Leader along with other things.

i think he will move back though Conley is still young and i think he will improve a lot. and yes hes a lot like Wade i think and has the talent to play point guard like him that’s why i think their a lot alike.

I think it cant hurt at all, he’ll become a better passer, learn how to run a team, and will develop alot of leadership, plus he will create mismatches for other team with him being 6-4 and able to lock down most 1,2 and some 3’s. I think he is more of a scorer before passer but on this team no1 really has to be set up Etc iverson gay randolph. He’ll play what ever position will give his team the best chance to win

Yea… Learning to run a team and make his teammates better will only help him regardless of what position he ends up playing down the line.

It would benefit him, but he’s a true combo guard. I think Memphis should let Conley develop. He doesnt do anything bad really for the most part.. he doesnt turn the ball over alot at all, doesnt take bad shots and is a better shooter than he used to be. He must be accounted for now from there. I think he may break out this year, because he’ll be given more reign now. I think he’ll at least be a good starter.

i wish he played the point for Memphis, there was a reason he was a number 1 recruit in the nation in high school, and thats because he was such a big point guard. trust me, this kid is a great passer and leader and would flourish if he was playing the point in the NBA. It’s just when he went to USC he had to play the 2 because he was the best scorer, and then when he got drafted it’s like people forgot that he is a point

He actually was a primary PG for USC. He isnt a primary in the NBA though. I remember when USC played Kansas State in the tourny, on the 1st possession for USC he picked up his dribble at half-court and turned the ball over. I remember thinking “he isnt a true PG, but he can be effective in spurts probably.” He is a true combo guard, but he shouldnt try to focus on being a PG. He plays better off the ball to me.

I think he can only benefit. How can it hurt? I think, if he does play point, we will learn what kind of character he truly has. I have played ball with him and from what I have seen, he is a quiet, humble guy. He has a chance, with all the scorers he is with, to average close to 10 assist a game. Think about it, out of the starting 5, 4 people can score in an instant. If he is willing to take a secondary role in scoring, and really use his ability to score, to create assist for everyone. The fact that he can score will cause all teams to play him honest. He, if he wants to, could be mentioned in the same breath, as a PG, with guys like Paul, Williams, Parker, Rose, ect. Could be a great move for the young guy. I hope they make the playoffs and Mayo completly transitioned to the PG position.

    point up for everybody here.

I agreed with a lot of people here. playing some pg will make his game all around and so much better.

If conely developes into what i’m hoping and expecting, the grizzlies could have an amazing backcourt in this league in the future.

if conely can develop and average close to 8-9apg and mayo can play Sg and pg some of the time…and come up with about 5.5-6.5apg….. not bad for the 1 and 2 spots eh?
