valentineSeems like I hear about how they can be quality bench players as rookies, and eventual starters.
Are they getting sold short, and could they be solid starters as rookies?
I don’t see why not. Smart, Payton, and Clarkson all had good/great rookie seasons as starters, and Zach LaVine was not bad either.
Grant and Wright are a lot further along than Russell and Mudiay as polished point guards.
In fact, given Russell’s athletic limitations, I don’t see how his upside is much more than Jerian Grant, and that’s in a couple years if Russell even makes that jump.
Seems like there are 18-20 really good PGs in the NBA, and then there are teams that Grant and Wright would be an upgrade for.
I think both of these guys might start getting a bit of lottery buzz, as we see with Cameron Payne getting eyed by the Knicks and other top 10 teams.

BasketballGuru24ParticipantBesides Smart, the rest of those guys played for 3 of top 5 worst teams in the league. I do think grant can start for a team but it really depends where he gets drafted, the rockets would be the best case scenario if they don’t sign or trade for a more established point guard.
The point guard position is easily the most filled position in the league so it’s harder for a rookie to immedietly to crack the starting rotation.
Russell’s feel for the game and shooting ability makes up for his athletic limitations. He is also younger (only 19) compared to grants 22 (23 before season starts).. I do believe jerian grant has the ability to be a pretty good player, just depends on the system he is in.
Wright on the other hand is most likely going to be coming off the bench. He flourishes when the ball is in his hand, and has struggled at time from the three point range. He is also already 23, which hurts his potential. With his defensive ability i do see him being a quality backup PG.

Mr. HookShotParticipantYes they can 😉 I can see the Rockets, the Mavericks and even the Celtics as potential places where they might regularly start later on in the season, albeit not from the first game on.

HobbyOGParticipantMaybe Wright if he goes to Houston. Good chance the Rockets lose Patrick Beverly in FA.
