DondiJohnParticipantVia coaches votes? He’s a Guard / Forward. Though still early in the season, he’s averaging 21.5pts 4 rebs and 3.4 assists. Raptors currently 2nd in the Atlantic and 8th in the East. He’s only 24 years old and still improving. With the departure of Rudy Gay, he’s the go to guy in Toronto.
Here’s the top 10 of Forwards in the East
1. LeBron James (Mia) 609,336
2. Paul George (Ind) 489,335
3. Carmelo Anthony (NYK) 424,211
4. Roy Hibbert (Ind) 208,369
5. Chris Bosh (Mia) 156,364
6. Kevin Garnett (BKN) 102,825
7. Joakim Noah (Chi) 75,229
8. Jeff Green (Bos) 55,912
9. Luol Deng (Chi) 54,340
10. Tyson Chandler (NYK) 51,738
Here’s the top 10 Guards1. Dwyane Wade
2. Kyrie Irving
3. Derrick Rose
4. John Wall
5. Ray Allen
6. Rajon Rondo
7. Deron Williams
8. George Hill
9. Evan Turner
10. Mario Chalmers

MUbballfanParticipantDeRozan is pretty good, but IMO he’s one of those guys who is the best player on a mediocre team and that is his ceiling. He would probably be the third or fourth option on a really good team. Other examples of this were Jason Richardson, Corey Maggette, and Stephen Jackson, all of which were talented scorers in their prime (on bad teams), but were pretty low efficiency players despite their stats, as is DeRozan. None of them were ever all stars.
Now, I could see DeRozan getting in this year if he were lucky, due to the poor group of guards in the East this year with Rondo and Rose out. Wade, Irving and Wall will all likely get in, so that probably leaves another 1-2 spots max for reserve backcourt players. DeRozan has a chance, but would have to get some love from the coaches to get in.

nick5354ParticipantHow in the hell did Mario Chalmers get in the top 10 guards?

joecheck88ParticipantI would say just casual fans in general as well. Rondo hasn’t played a game and is ahead of Deron Williams. Kobe is a starting guard though he’s only played like 5 games. It’s atrocious honestly. The coaches coaches should pick the starting 5 and the fans pick the remaining 7. 1 at each position and 2 wild cards.

MUbballfanParticipant Letting the coaches pick the starters and the fans pick the bench players may actually be worse lol

A Real Canadian MountieParticipantDeRozan’s a bit difficult to judge. He’s improved his shooting a lot since he first entered the league (i remember him shooting 9% from 3 point land in his 2nd year) and has always been a good slasher. He’s shooting more 3s and is hitting 32%, which is a career high % for him. That said, he’s still hasn’t improved his dribbling to the point that where you’d consider him a consistent iso threat. He’s picked up some bad habits from Rudy too, i’ve seen him pulling up for that long 2 ball a bit too often.
Also, with how few scorers the Raptors have, DeRozan has had to shoot more then ever before and he’s on pace to finish with more shot attempts and minutes played then his previous seasons by a wide margin; another part of the reason why his numbers have gone up. I think he still has an outside shot at making the All Star game with all the injuires to the guards in the East. I don’t think he’d make it if he’s being compared with the forwards though; Paul George is a lock and Luol Deng has a stronger case in being a better two-way player

he_gets_bucketsParticipantThe fact that Mario Chalmers is there and Jeff Teague, arguably the best point in the East so far this season isn’t there is proof that fan voting is a poor system.

BasketballJunkie224ParticipantI know the Sixers hot start didnt last but anyone think turner or even the rookie MCW have a shot at sneaking in? And as far as DeRozan, as much as I would love to see him in this years game, I cant really picture it at the same time. He may deserve it but the all star game could get tricky with the voting

torontoraptors10ParticipantFans shouldn’t dictate who should be in the all-star game. It’s annoying. The exact point is, why is Chalmers there?

IndianaBasketballParticipantLance Stephenson has been better than DeMar DeRozan. Only difference is he doesn’t get to average 18 shots per game.

R-Dot-13ParticipantNah, I’m a big Raptors fan. Watch every game. DeRozan is no all star. He’s been playing better but he’s still a really poor shooter and inconsistant. If the Raptors have any all star it’s Kyle Lowry.
