I’m looking at Anthony Bennett and liked what I saw from him this season. He seemed to have just a pro ready game and I saw glimpses of Charles Barkley while watching him. He’s strong and rebounds well for his size. Although he’s short by conventional measurements I think he can get past that with his face up and back to the basket game. He seems to have a pretty strong motor as well and competes well. I’m not saying by any means that he will be Charles Barkley but what I’m saying is can he be a similar player. Can he overcome his so called deficiencies to play well in the NBA

Depends on where he lands. A strong coaching staff and veteran leadership can go a long way with a player like Bennett. I hope he doesn’t go to the Bobcats or Kings for that reason.

…was very special. He was unique and guys like that don’t come around very often. He was 6’5 wide and tall with explosion and a meanness and relentlessness about him. Larry Johnson came very close but his back gave out.

I’ve always thought that Anthony Bennett’s ceiling would be a player similar to Charles Barkley. He still needs to get more physical before that happens but he’s young and has time. I hope he ends up in Phoenix personally. I have a good feeling about Jeff Hornacek’s coaching ability.

I see some Clarence Weatherspoon in him and I mean this in a very positive way. Spoon was very explosive when young and had some range with his jumper too. Barkley is really not the ceiling where Bennet can get but I see the point. I don’t like the Larry Johnson comparison. Grandma was an absolutely beast a way stronger than Bennet is now. To me Bennet displays more of a finesse game than just pure power. But the energy is there and really hope for him he falls to the right team where he fits in – wherever this may be.

From what I see in him I do not think he will fare very well in the NBA. I think he will have problems with both motivation and possibly trouble with managment, coaching, and even other players on his team. I suspect these will develope over time but will be evident in a few years. His scoring numbers will help people justify his potential but I doubt he ever makes an allstar team let alone show any positive similarities to Sir Charles.

You can’t make a statement like that without giving a reason why you feel that way… Why do you think that?

Honestly it is just what I feel overall from watching him play. I am not comfortable assigning him as a 3 or a 4 because I do not think he transitions well into either role in the NBA. He seems more than willing to take plays off, mostly on D, which does not bode well for workethic that will have to be there if he is to make a place for himself. I see his upside as a good role player if he manages to prove me wrong in my analysis of his motivation. I realize that this is a rather bold prediction which should require much more specific analysis than I have provided, but I just cannot shake this feeling that he is not worth the hype he is receiving at the moment.

OP must have only seen 1 or two games, or none at all.
Bennett looks strong but doesn’t play like it all the time. His motor is not good, gets gassed easily (has asthma) and doesn’t always compete. He could look straight up lazy at times, getting outworked by players he had the strength advantage over.
