Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantWhile watching the Clips vs Bucks.. one of the commentators said Blake Griffin eats about 5,200 calories a day.. which is simply ridiculous. How does he burn so much?
How many calories does the average NBA player consume a day? How much is a healthy amount of calories to consume on a daily basis?

DanEboyParticipantMichael Phelps takes in 12,000 calories a day when he is in training……now that is ridiculous.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantDanEboy.. did I read that number right? 12,000? Or was there a typo somewhere?

llperezive also heard phelps has some ridiculous ammount of calorie burning going on. They did a study on it and they said the fact his body his constantly changing temperatures when he gets in out of a pool is what accelerates his cal burning and that people should incorporate it in their diets somehow.
ANd the 5,000 calories for blake doesnt sound wierd at all. I know of mma fighters who have said they burn 5k+ per day. If the average human is around 2k a day, a pro athlete who works out should be over double.

DanEboyParticipantI may be wrong but I think it has to do with metabolism. Some people just burn more calories than others. And that was no typo….12,000 calories a day….

fastdanParticipantYou have to take into consideration body size…An average person needs like 2k, but that’s someone whos 5’10 180, not 6’10 250. It takes a lot more to get a body like that going…

JoeWolf1Yeah, I’m not surprised by that at all. I recently added about 15 lbs through a new weight lifting routine and I was trying to hit 3,500 per day and I’m obviously considerably smaller than Blake Griffin and I don’t do that cardio equivalent to 2-3 NBA games per week. 5,200 seems about right for him to maintain his muscle mass.

dmo21ParticipantIt matters what you eat. Like say you eat a burger a day, well that doesnt sound to bad. But it could be bad if your burger looks something like this:
