Due to the number of teams tanking/sucking this season who still have valuable players, there is a great opportunity for teams that need one extra piece, or would like another luxury player in order to make a playoff run.

Philly, Boston, Utah, Orlando, Milwaukee, and the Lakers all have a first round pick this year, as well as players that would provide value to a playoff/bubble team, and a seeming desire to tank. With that in mind, here’s a tiered list of players that the aforementioned six could be willing to offload, and who would command pricetags that don’t come close to their true values, due to their lack of value to a tanking team, and who could really help a team make a playoff run:

    Tier 1- Great starters

    Rajon Rondo – Arron Afflalo

    Tier 2- Good starters

Thaddeus Young – Pau Gasol – Evan Turner – Jeff Green

Tier 3- Serviceable starters/ high bench players

Glen Davis – Jameer Nelson – Spencer Hawes – Ersan Ilyasova (maybe tier 4 for ilyasova)

    Tier 4- Role players

Brandon Rush – Brandon Bass – Caron Butler – Marvin Williams

The teams that would be prepared and willing to offer packages for the tier one and tier two dudes would probably be:

Portland-  CJ Mccollum, Meyers Leonard, Thomas Robinson, pick

Phoenix-  Okafor expiring, Marcus Morris, Markieff Morris, Channing Frye, Archie Goodwin, Alex Len, multiple picks

Cleveland- Dion Waiters, Tyler Zeller, Sergey Karasev, Jarrett Jack, Anthony Bennett

    Sacremento- Jimmer, Mclemore, pick

OKC-  Steven Adams, Perry Jones, Jeremy Lamb, Reggie Jackson, pick

Brooklyn- Mirza, Blatche, Plumlee, Pierce expiring

Washington- Otto, Vesely, Singleton, Porter, Seraphin

Toronto- Terrence Ross, Patrick Patterson, Tyler Hansbrough, pick

Memphis- Ed Davis, Jamal Franklin, pick, bunch of trade exceptions

Golden State- Draymond Green, MarShon Brooks, Jordan Crawford, Harrison Barnes, pick

Denver- Faried, Nate Robinson, Professor Miller, Evan Fournier, Jordan Hamilton, pick

So what we got this trade season is a bunch of talented buy low guys, and ten teams with the assets to make serious runs at the best ones of them without getting rid of any of their big players. It’s gonna be an interesting trade deadline.

The Bobcats are rumored to have interest in Evan Turner so you can add them to the list.

I almost added them but then I thought that they didn’t really have the assets… They’ve got Cody Zeller, Bismack Biyombo, and the Gordon expiring, and I’m pretty sure they traded their pick. Now that’s not enough for Turner, maybe on pure value but the Turner isn’t on the kind of salary that the Gordon expiring can really do much for them.

Would Portland trade Mccollum + Salary for Afflalo??  That would really improve portlands chances to compete this year.  Mccollum and Oladipo wouldn’t be terrible together sharing ball handling duties.  Interesting thing that would really give Portland a great bench.

    Wolves – 76ers – Nuggets

Wolves would do this because it saves them money now and in the long run. I’d hate to see Pek go, but they need something more defensively, and with the money they save, they could aim to draft (if they don’t have to trade their pick) or sign a free agent that could help down low. Because when Turiaf is your best interior defender, that’s a problem.

76ers would because, even though they have Hawes, Pek is just more consistent and is able to bang in the low post. Plus when Noel returns from injury, he could slide in next to Pek and form a great offense-defense duo. They give up a lot of value, so they would also probably want a pick.

Nuggets would do this because they get rid of the disgruntled vet in Miller, while getting a nice return on young players, but more importantly get better depth at the guard spot. They’ve been hit hard by injuries, and Barrea is a fairly consistent player off the bench.

I don’t see the Thunder willing to trade Adams, Lamb, or Jackson right now. Adams and Lamb seem like key players for the future Thunder. Jackson on the other hand might force their hand and they might have to trade him next year since it looks like he is pricing them out, but I don’t see them doing any major moves this year.

I agree that it will be an intersting deadline though. 3 or 4 wins could very well mean the difference in a top 5 pick and what is the point of winning 3 or 4 more games when you could have a higher lottery selection?

really good market summary. to be honest, I can’t see either of your top 2 going anywhere- I think the asking price will be really high for both. The second tier guys have got more chances of moving.

I would love to see the Celtics make a move for Mccollum! Would Jeff Green work?

Eh I can’t see Mccollum for Green working salarywise but CBA stuff isn’t really my forte, I think they’d have to make it a three teamer with a decent sized expiring or dead weight contract going to Boston, who in the latter case would then want picks as well.

I think that Afflalo and Rondo both have a decent chance of getting moved, but I agree that their teams are in no hurry to trade them. The offers will come, however, and some will be good.

Also, I think it’s probable that if an opportunity comes around for OKC to get a good starter lever guy, they’ll be OK trading Perry Jones, a pick, and Lamb if the guy’s good enough. They need to capitalize on their assets in order to get a real edge on the Heat.
