rileymcshea3ParticipantI’m probably not the only one who agrees with this, but the bulls should tank this year and try to get Jabari Parker. They aren’t going any where this year with Rose out, so might as well prepare for the future and make a trade to get them into tank mode.
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=n7r77ve
Cavs get Luol Deng who fits perfectly at the SF spot and his contract expires just incase they really think they can get LeBron
Celtics get Varejao who is very productive for how much he gets paid
Bulls get Humphries expiring contract and Brooks and Gee to try out on the wings for the rest of the season

JoeWolf1They’re not? I’m pretty sure they are. They sat out Deng and Hinrich last night, and they’re giving Snell and Teague more minutes. Sure, some of this is out of necessity due to injury, but they’re 2-8 in their last 10 games. That doesn’t seem like a team that isn’t tanking, considering they made the playoffs last year with a depleated roster.
I don’t know if they can get a high enough pick to grab Parker, but if they can squeak up to 6 or 7, and grab Randle, Levine, or Clarkson, then I think they would all be nice fits for the Bulls.
I really like Jimmy Butler and Tony Snell as complimentary players at the 2 and 3 going forward, but adding a low post threat like Randle would give them a younger, fiercer replacement for an aging Carlos Boozer.
LaVine has great upside and could really be a nice gamble for the Bulls at the guard position. Rose is so in question at this point, you can’t rule out drafting a guy who could play next to him, but also play his position. The same reason I like Clarkson. He could be a nice complementary guy to Rose if he comes back at a high level, but he could also be a guy who could be a point guard going forward.

TyroberParticipantI don’t think they would trade Deng for that mess but I can see them trading him for a protected pick, future 1st, or a young talent. There are a lot of teams that could use Deng, but I see where you are coming from by wanting to get back people who aren’t going to help you win games this year.

HitsterParticipantThe Bulls were competitive without D-Rose last season and can probably make the play offs again this season. They still have Mirotic stashed away to come over and have the pick from Charlotte due in the next couple of years, so the need to tank to try and improve by getting young talent in isn’t that major.
A far bigger concern to the Bulls is that will D-Rose return and stay sound again for an extended period and are the current roster having to shoulder a big workload. D-Rose took a cautious approach last season when everyone was clanmmering for him to return and he just seemed to be getting back towards his best when the 2nd injury happened.
Having had two major injuries could effect D-Rose both physically and mentally but the main plus point is that being a backcourt player he does not have to play such a physical style and can control his own tempo as a PG. He will probably lose some of his explosive inside moves but he can compensate for this by concentrating on his mid range and 3 point shooting and become more of a passing PG. He could easily still score 20ppg across his career and hopefully have up to another decade in the NBA.
With D-Rose being out the likes of Noah, Butler, Deng and Boozer seem to have indirectly needed to play a lot of extra minutes so the Bulls may need to watch this a bit as Boozer is now 32, Deng and Noah are in their later 20’s so they don’t want to burn them out prematurely throughout a long season. Also it could perhaps affect their effectiveness going forward for future seasons as every player only has a finite NBA career and the Bulls don’t want a functioning D-Rose to return but not have the supporting cast they hoped for.

Moon RiverParticipantThere is an article on CBS today that is claiming the Bulls will not seek to trade Deng. I certainly hope this is BS because this is Deng’s last big pay day and the Bulls are crazy if they are expecting a discount from Deng. Someone will pay him and then he walks for no return to the Bulls. The Bulls are a mess right now and I am not convinced Gar/Pax have a plan to fix it.

Memphis MadnessParticipantThere are only 4 teams right now that shouldn’t think about tanking: Miami, Indiana, San Antonio, and Oklahoma City. You can throw Houston and the LA Clippers in there, too.
The Golden State Warriors are in 9th place right now. If they fall back a bit even they should think about tanking. Just think of having Joel Embiid or Julius Randle in there with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Iggy, Harrison Barnes, David Lee and Bogut.
We could basically see 20 teams starting to tank after the All-Star Break especially since the top of the draft (1-6) is loaded without much separation between guys from 7-10 to 20 or so (along with an interesting second round).
You basically want to be at the TOP of the league or the BOTTOM of the league by the end of the year.

druneave3ParticipantThis is a bad team. They have no one who can create their own shot and really struggle to score on a nightly basis. Their defense just isn’t the same. Boozer is worse than ever and was called out by Noah in the media the other night when he talked about players who don’t play defense, don’t bring it every night, take bad shots, and don’t play team ball. Worse than the fact that they struggle to reach 80 points and the Thibs-lead D is non-existent, the mental state of this team after the Rose injury is in dissaray. I think the team, the entire city and fan base realizes that the youngest MVP ever can no longer lead a team to win a championship. They have always needed a second superstar along with Rose but it is an entirely different story now. Most people think that the Bulls front office doesn’t realize this but in a recent interview with Mark Schanowski and rumblings from insiders indicate that they do know what they need to do.
Today’s report that the Bulls will not be trading Deng and will look to re-sign him is something I have always feared despite numerous reports that the two sides would part ways. The inevitable amnesty of Boozer after this season will allow them to reach an agreement with Deng for multiple years at around $12 million.
This will be not be a full-out tank like most people want in order to get a top 3 pick. However, this current team will lose a fair number of games and there is a strong possibility that they don’t make the playoffs. It is still early and there are so many bad teams in the East that is almost seems impossible that a Thibs led team would enter the lottery, but if they continue their recent play they will not make the playoffs. Since Derrick has been out their record is 3-12 and they have lost to some of the worst teams in the league in Utah, Orlando, Toronto and Milwaukee (nearly twice in the same week if it weren’t for a lucky last second banked 3-pointer from Dunleavy). Injury concerns combined with the coach playing his guys heavy minutes, along with the front office realizing they have no chance should lead to more DNP’s for starters, and more mintues for Teague, Snell and other bench players. Playing Teague = TANK.
Playoffs or not, two relatively high picks in an epic draft, addition by subtraction with the Boozer amnesty, the possible Mirotic signing (a much needed shooter), and maintaining a core of Deng, Noah, Butler, Gibson, Snell and some type of version of D Rose should not leave Bulls fans waiting on the edge. They will not tank, but they might not need to. They could end up with a lottery pick of their own plus the Bobcats that could range from 11-17. Adding a few more talented players to this team could spell for a ton of success.
Keep your head up Bulls fans.

rileymcshea3ParticipantI just don’t think this roster if good enough to win a championship with they’re roster. They just aren’t good enough and relied too much in Rose on the offensive end. In my opinion the management of this team has not been good over years in the 2000’s and really god lucky when they were givin D-Rose. This is the year they need to tank. The bobcats pick is not going to be a lotto one because they are probably gonna make the playoffs.
