The8thDeadlySinParticipantReported by SI.com…
They are going to resign Gibson.. This is a huge deal! Do they look to make a big trade now or is it just to make room in their salary cap for a FA? Or will this evn happen?

TyroberParticipantIt can’t happen until next offseason anyway. There is a short window to amnesty a player and it’s already passed. He was clearly a bad investment, but if they can get anything for him then that would be better than paying him to go away.

dmo21ParticipantI know this will seem like a bad trade (kinda both ways) but yet it makes some sense. How about Boozer to Charlotte for Diop and Thomas.
Charlotte gets a veteran big man who can actually score under the basket. Will fit good against Biyombo who can stick to defense or even Mullens as Boozer will play low post while Mullens can spread the floor. Boozer is not a complete waste of a player as most people act like he is. He still averages 15 and 10 while shooting 50% from the floor. It is asking a lot to pay 15 million over 3 years for this type of guy on a rebuilding team, but atleast it will make sure the Bobcats won’t spend stupid money and will try to build through the draft. Would have a starting lineup of Sessions/Gordon/MKG/Boozer/Biyombo probably, which is a good mix of offense and defense and then you have Walker/Henderson/Williams/Mullens/Haywood off the bench.
Charlotte gets rid of Boozer and his spot is quickly replaced by Gibson. Diop is just some salary relief as his contract is done after the season. Tyrus Thomas still has some potential as a defense punch off the bench, and playing with Thibs may make him an all around defensive player. It’s either paying Boozer 15 mil over 3 years or Thomas 8 mil over 3 years.
It sounds dumb, and probably won’t happen, but I think it could potentially be a good mvoe for both teams.

druneave3ParticipantNo one is trading for Boozer.
The Bulls would NEVER bring back Tyrus Thomas!
Carlos Boozer is not a low post player. He struggles mightily to finish near the rim due to age/injuries and can no longer explode, is constantly missing easy buckets. 90% of his shots are 15 ft. fadeaways.

Moon RiverParticipantNo way Paxson brings back Tyrus Thomas. But I do agree with getting rid of Boozer. I think the most likely scenario is Boozer getting amnestied summer 2013.

druneave3ParticipantMost people have been saying for a week or so now that they will most likely reach a deal before the end of the month. And we have known for months now that the Bulls will most likely dump Boozer at the end of the 13/14 season.
That is also when the contracts of Hinrich and Deng are up, and Mirotic is rummored to come over. I think they will bring back Hinrich and Deng, Deng for considerably less than his current deal of 14 million a year. If all of this does happen….
2014 Season- Rose $18 mil, Noah $13, Gibson $10 (I hope it is under $12 like Ibaka got) Deng $8 ?? Mirotic $6? Hinrich $3 Butler $2 Teague $1 Estimated $61 million in 8 players.
Once LeBron realizes that Wade’s career is over and can no longer win in Miami and exercises his ETO………..

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantIt wasn’t a SI report. It was picked up from a rumor passed along by ESPN. For the past year, the rumor has been that if the Bulls are going to pay Taj Gibson, then they are going to have to amnesty Boozer. They math is what it is. If Gibson can fetch a 4-year $40 million deal somewhere (and you can debate whether that is a good contract), then the Bulls are looking at paying 7 guys $75 million in 2013-14 (this includes a declined option on Richard Hamilton). That means they will pay $1.5 for every dollar over the tax up to $5 million and $1.75 for every dollar between $5-10 million. The decision then becomes whether to pay Carlos Boozer and have him play at the cost of a tax bill of about $15 million, or pay him to go away and be left with a very lightly skilled but highly paid frontcourt and not pay the luxury tax. This is why I think the best option for the Bulls is to deal Taj Gibson while his value is at the highest.

druneave3ParticipantThe Bulls were devastated that they had to say goodbye to Asik, they are not going to trade away their other rim protector. They are also really high on Taj, love his work ethic and have no desire to trade him.

Wejustwin504ParticipantBoozer is a big man from Duke; Who’s surprised?

PlatypusParticipantBoozer and a 2014 pick for Okafor
Wizards: get a true power forward
Wall – Mack
Beal – Crawford
Ariza – Vesley / Singleton
Boozer – Booker
Nene – Seriphan
Bulls: in 2 years they will have Okafor, Deng, and Hamilton coming off the books totaling around 30 mill
Next year*
Rose – Teague
Hamilton – Hinrich
Deng – Butler
Gibson – Okafor
Noah – Okafor / Free agent

SiggyParticipantThere is no good reason for any team to want to trade for Carlos Boozer given his value relative to his contract and his declining play. IMO, the only way out for the Bulls is to amnesty

jhbm24ParticipantGibson isn’t worth spending more than 6-7 mill on. And idc about hi work ethic, if his skills and ability on the court aren’t up to par for a 10 mill contract then don’t give it to him.. If they can get something’s pod for Gibson the F it and trade him.. There is no way they can trade boozer, so if they amnesty him then they will at least have some cap space.

SiggyParticipantTaj’s impact on the game far exceeds his stats. He’s not just a good defender, he’s an elite defender. Just look at the team’s net rating when he was in the game for the Bulls.

Look how much a guy like Ibaka got and he’s a shot-blocking specialist (who btw is not the overall defender that Taj is) who occasionally hits jumpers. And you think Taj should get roughly half of what Ibaka gets?

TallmanNYCParticipantAmensty is something the Bulls will only consider next year if they want to make a free agent splash. There is no need to do it this year since Rose is out and the Bulls will not contend this year. Since Amenesty does not save a team any money, the only reason to do it is to open cap room to bring in another player. The Bulls don’t have any interest in bringing in another player now since they are not a contender. Maybe it will take them a month to realize it, but it will become very clear that they are going to miss the guy they let go and not like so much the guys they brought in.

omphalosParticipant@Tallman: Another reason to amnesty Boozer is to fully embrace not contending and get a high draft pick with Rose injured.

BrentSuriaga01ParticipantWell, not really surprised considering how much of a baggage boozer has been since he arrived in chicago. They throw a lot of money on him. He didn’t deliver. It’s like buying a porn sex tapes on a video store with Kim Kardashian as the actress.

JoeWolf1If the Bulls could bring in a higher scoring shooting guard for a 3rd option to replace Boozer, then I really think they could get away with starting Taj Gibson. In a starting role, I think he’d be a 13 ppg 8 rpg 2 bpg player and his jumper is good enough to play the pick and pop and draw defenders on the high post.
That being said, the Bulls benefit from having a low post scorer. There are just not a lot of them floating around right now. Even an aging Boozer is a better post scorer than most young guys they could look to bring in. I think they’re between a rock and a hard place and they’re going to have to blow up this team even more before a healthy Derrick Rose comes back in 2013-14.
Their current team was to design a squad that could make a 3 or 4 year run. With Derrick Rose going down, keeping everyone, just doesn’t make as much sense if the payroll is going to skyrocket.
