I know this is a repost but I added a lot to it that may alter your decisions. Let’s say your a gm beginning to build a team.—- IF YOU HAD TO CHOSE YOU FRANCHIS PLAYER WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CHOSE….
    1. A True PG.6″3 Age 25 Undersized. Decent Shot. Creates for teammates. Not a great defender. Avg. 20ppg 10 apg 2sp
    2. Defensive Center 7″1Age 22 Decent Post moves. Decent passer. Great Defender.Still improving Avg. 18ppg 12rpg 3bpg 55% FT
    3. Scoring SG/SF Ht 6″6 Age 27 Great Shot. Finishes well. Decent Defender Avg 27 ppg 5 apg 4rpg Entering Prime.
—–YOU ALSO HAVE THE FIRST PICK IN THE DRAFT. YOU CHOSE….
    1. Lights Out Shooter. Not a good defender. Shoots high percentages from everywhere. Played for Duke. Avg 25ppg as a sophomore. HT 6″4. Can play point or SG. Coachable and has lots of room to improve. Age 20.
    2. Versatile forward. 6″9 Lengthy teen from Germany. Can dribble, pass, shoot, and rebound. Avg 14 ppg and 7 rpg in limited minutes on euro squad but is only 18. Great potential. Can play either forward spot.
    3. Skilled big man. HT 6″11. Can play C or PF. Has many moves in the post and a 15 ft jumper. Played for Alabama. Avg 24ppg and 10rpg as a Senior.Age 22. Most nba ready but least potential.
—-NOW YOU CHOSE A ROLE PLAYER FROM FREE AGENCY…
    1. Defensive Big. Ht. 7″0 but can play PF and C. No post moves but is a great rebounder and defender. Age 25
    2. Versatile Guard. HT. 6″7 and can guard 4 positions. Long and tall. Decent finisher but no shot. Age 25
    3. Control Point. Ht. 6″4. Strong veteran. Helps in playoffs. Organizes offenses. Decent D and offense. Age 28.
    —–AND NOW FOR YOUR COACH…
    1. Young College Coach. Just took his team to elite eight. Age 34. Motivator and gets involved. Runs fast Offenses.
    2. Ex-player Coach. Age 45. Played ball for 14 years. Very knowlegable but hasen’t had success yet as a coach.
    3. Veteran. Age 58. Been Coaching for a long time. Never won title but has been good. He may retire soon or not. Defensively minded.
If your beginning to build a franchise who would you build around. No names here in order to keep everyone unbiased. Chose one from each category please and I’ll reward each person with a magical point!!! Hopefully there’s a lot of different views on the best way to get a team into contention.

A solid Big Man to build your team around, this is one of the hardest positions to fill in the league.

A flashy scorer to bring in fans and run the offense

A solid defender to make up for the scorer’s lack of Defense and solid defenders usually mesh well with the team.

The Veteran coach with a focus on Defense, I picked the defensive center and the defensive free agent so he will be able to play to their strengths. Plus he is a safer pick than a college coach (who often don’t do well in the NBA, and a ex-player who are pretty hit and miss as coaches)

Alright time for me to chose….I’m going to go with the point guard who isn’t a good defender. I’ll also chose the highly skilled Bigman from ‘Bama to form an immediate 1-2 punch. Then I’ll go with the versatile Defender to guard the teams best perimeter players. For my coach I’ll go with the veteran event though he’s old i could still get a lot of knowledge from him to my team.

I bring in the Center that actually has pretty good numbers for being known as a defensive C.

The great scorer will come and play both Guard spots for me, but start at PG.

The Versatile guard to play the other guard spot to make up for the Scorer having no D.

I bring in the young coach to coach all of my young players.

    2. Defensive Center 7″1Age 22 Decent Post moves. Decent passer. Great Defender.Still improving Avg. 18ppg 12rpg 3bpg 55% FT
-Great defender and still puts up dang good offensive numbers.

    2. Versatile forward. 6″9 Lengthy teen from Germany. Can dribble, pass, shoot, and rebound. Avg 14 ppg and 7 rpg in limited minutes on euro squad but is only 18. Great potential. Can play either forward spot.
-He can do it all, he is young and with his length should be a great defensive player and point forward.

    3. Control Point. Ht. 6″4. Strong veteran. Helps in playoffs. Organizes offenses. Decent D and offense. Age 28.
-Big point guard who can play D, lead my team.

    1. Young College Coach. Just took his team to elite eight. Age 34. Motivator and gets involved. Runs fast Offenses.
-I have a bunch of good defenders so even in a running system my team should still be ok on defense.

    good choice.
but i think you need a proven scorer who can give you clutch baskets.
    ever team has one.
    most teams have 2

Very true, I was tempted to draft the combo guard but a fast team with defenders should be fine. Plus, if I suck I will draft a top scoeer next year! Haha.

    most teams NEED too.
    and personally.
i think its rare a team wins a champoinship with ONE premiter presence and ONE post presence.
shaq and kobe are the only duo i think EVER.

potland lacks that third option thats another reason why they will never be great.
    i think a succesful team needs…..

    a solid coach
    a post presence
    a star/outside presence(premeiter scorer ala SG/SF)
    and a slasher
    average point guard
plus add that with defense you have a ring or something close

    if you give me…

    Rick Adelman
    Amare Stoudamire
    D-Wade
    Shawn Marion
    Mo Williams

    we could go far

The problem Mallstax is that that teams is near impossible to get. i also think that you need versatility not a slasher. LA and Orlando are the closest teams to it…
    Phil Jackson —- Van Gundy
    Pau Gasol—–Dwight Howard
    Kobe Bryant—-Vince Carter
    Lamar Odom—-Rashard Lewis
    Derek Fisher—-Jameer Nelson
Both teams don’t have it perfectly down but are the closest your going to find.
