it may just be me but every time I watch buddy Hield play I can’t help but think of JR smith. As far as the range and the 3 pt stroke. A lot of ppl seem to forget that before JR became such a spot up shooter he Pretty good at driving and had a nice handle. I’m sure I’ll get crushed for this but open your minds up some and just think about it. And if not JR are there any other comparisons u guys can think of would like to hear them

NO NO NO! Buddy doesn’t have half the athleticism JR possesses. Yes they both enjoy shooting the 3, but they are complete different players.

JR Smith has a ok handle, but its loose and very turn over prone against a good or solid defender. The player Buddy reminds me of is Bradley Beal.

I’ve heard so many comparisons for buddy and Jr couldn’t be far from what he looks like. When Jr came in the league he had elite athleticism while buddy is a slightly above average nba athlete at best also being 1 or 2 inches shorter. To ensure buddy is much more Bradley Beal or a bigger less explosive, pretty injury eric gordon.

I would say Courtney Lee is a reasonable comparison.

Beal is less than five months older than Hield.  Im not sure Buddy has the ceiling of Brad Beal.  I am not as high on Hield as others so I would say somewhere between Jodie Meeks and JJ Redick

Buddy is definition of a lame bloomer he has really worked on his craft and honed his skills in college. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up a little bit better than Beal. Does Beal have that much more potential or has he peaked ?

Beal has a longer ws and is better at slashing to the basket. Also he has been doing his thing in the league and Buddy has been playing against college kids. Late bloomer yes but how much can he improve as I dont even know how his game will translate to the NBA. Didn’t play defense in college so thats not going to get better. Basically you think he will get better playing against NBA talent and I think he will be an average starting two gaurd or six men.

I think Buddy shooting will translate more than Beal. Beal was touted as this great shooter, but isn’t good as he was made out to be. Buddy has proven he can make shots even when the whole defense is focused on him. Defensively Beal wasn’t asked to play that much more defense either. They are comparable athletically and size and length. Length isn’t the end all to prove someone will or is the better defender. I don’t know how much more length Beal has. What is it an inch or two ?

What do you mean Bealisn’t as good a shooter as made out to be? He’s shooting 40% from 3 on 4.5 attempts for his career. Thats pretty fantastic

Hasn’t he been on limited minutes and games ? That could benefit his shooting stats. Besides the stats he isnt in talks with the elite shooters in the league. Reddick is regarded as a better player, I think.

Buddy will be a rock solid pro, I think that could be pretty good, but not an all star talent. He isn’t going to hurt you like JR Smith would a lot of the time in the past with his below average ball IQ offensively and defensively.

He reminds me of Ben Gordon, but I think he has the potential to be a better defender meaning he can start on consistent basis.

No where near the handle or off the bounce shooting stroke that Gordon had

He will be a 3 point shooter. Maybe an exceptional, next-level one. But that might be it. He tested as having a 40 inch vertical, but whatever athleticism he has, he doesn’t use it in a game (see D’Angelo Russell). So that part doesn’t matter. He was 37% from mid-range and you can see him struggle to drive every time he drives. Part of that is handle, part of that is lack of quickness. But he’s outstanding in a catch and shoot, already shot a bunch from the pro 3 line this year, and was the 3rd best in the nation percentage wise while challenged shooting 3’s. As he made 85 out of 100 unguarded in the Celtic tryout, you can imagine how awesome he’ll be when the other team isn’t entirely, only fixed on him. He will kill it on 3’s. I expect him to be under-average on everything else besides leadership and effort. He’s a very hard player to value.
