It is being reported (Mark Stein) that the Bucks are in talks with Larry Sanders for a buyout.  I do hope this happens for the Bucks sake.  I was a fan of Sanders, but don’t know where he is at in his personal life, but it is clear that his professional life (playing basketball) is not a high priority.

 To me, this is sad.  I really liked the potential that Larry Sanders flashed during the 2012-2013 season.  However, this was his decision.  He obviously does not want to play the game of basketball anymore, and I am not one to judge.  I think that we may have seen the last of Larry Sanders in an NBA uniform, and if that is the case, I wish him the very best in life.  

As far as the Bucks are concerned, this is a win-win.  Not only do they free up some long-term committed cash, but they also will now be able to fully develop John Henson properly, and we will see just how good this kid from North Carolina can be.  One of the most unique things about this transaction is the fact that the Bucks have proved that they can win ball games without Sanders.  

I cannot wait to see what the Bucks become, and I look forward to this young squad evolving around Jason Kidd.

I don’t have all of the details but even if the Bucks cannot reach an agreement on a buyout, they can string out the contract for seven years, meaning a $4 Million and change cap hit versus the full $11 Million.  I agree with the win win scenario and seeing what Henson can do with consistent minutes.

In a comment I read it was actually said Sanders is looking to continue playing, albeit perhaps not for the Bucks anymore. He stated he wants to stop using marihuana and start playing basketball again. Would there be any team willing to take the enourmous risk to pick up this enigma?

 I don’t think that Larry Sanders doesn’t like basketball.

The league states that he cannot use marijuana and play in the NBA. The drug is not illegal in many parts of the country, and is not performance enhancing. So why do they have a problem with it. 

I respect that he should not play under the influence of drugs…but that is a big difference between being impaired by drugs (3-6hr timeframe) to having cannibus metabolytes in your system (1-3 months) that show on a drug test. 

The league is making it impossible for him to play. If he needs it for medicinal purposes, then what is the problem here.

The league has out-dated medicinal marijuana rules if you ask me and it’s preventing Sanders from doing his job and going to cost the Bucks millions of dollars.

Too many stories about former players who end up having troubles in “real” life,he’s the kind of guy where I would worry about his health after basketball. fingers crossed.  Marijuana is only legal in two states (I’m UK based, so please correct me if I’m wrong). It is illegal in the UK but not in some other European countries. 

I don’t know of one sport which would allow it as part of it’s drug testing policy, again please correct me if I am wrong.

When Michael Beasley said he was "in favour" of it and was seen in photos with a dodgy joint nearby effectively put pay to any chance he ever had of making Team USA regardless of if he had become the player he was hyped to be. If he had been seen as a high profile cannabis/marijuana user then the Olympic doping testers would have been all over him. I don’t for one minute think Coach K and Jerry Colangelo would have risked that on their watch.

I’ve read numerous things on the pros and cons of legalising it, personally I have never smoked it, don’t like the smell of it but if people want to smoke it in their own homes and know the risks and penalties then that is their choice. One of my work colleagues is a 60 year old white guy who smokes normal cigarettes but openly admits he has a joint most nights, he started smoking the herb at university in the early 1970’s and has done so ever since.

Back to Sanders, it is a great pity if it was the end of his career but hopefully he can give up the weed for a fewyears and try to get his NBA career back on track. If he wants to still smoke it in later life, then he will hopefully have another 50 years when his career is over to enjoy his spliffs.
