I’d like to get some opinions on some teams currently on the bubble.

    Richmond 20-7 9-3 in A10
    Illinois 17-9 7-6 Big Ten
    Oklahoma State 16-9 4-7 Big 12
    UCLA 19-7 10-3 Pac 10
    Kansas State 18-9 6-6 Big 12
    Utah State 24-3 12-1 WAC
    UTEP 19-6 7-3 C-USA

UTEP: Yes, they will make it unless they flake out early in the conference tournament.

Utah State: Yes, they will win be in the tournament.

Kansas State: Yes, they are a team that possess a real threat to any team in the nation. If they get out of the 1st round, i think they can make a run.

UCLA: Probably, they have a great prospect in Honeycutt, and a decent one in Lee, they should be make it.

Oklahoma State: No, their horrid conference record will be their biggest factor in them not making, unless they win the conference tournament of course, which is pretty unlikely.

Illinois: I don’t think so, they definetly have some nice pieces like McCamey, Davis, Tisdale, and Richmond. If they win tonight at Michigan State, and get far in the conference tournament, i think they will give the committee something to think about.

Richmond: No, there aren’t enough bids from the A-10 for the Spiders to get to the Big Dance. Temple and Xavier will likely be the only teams, maybe Dayton, Duquesne or POSSIBLY Richmond could make it.

Marquette and Cincy are kind of bubbly although they should be in. I both hope they make it (11 Big East teams baby).

I also hope Oakland, UAB, and Cleveland State win their conference tourneys so they can be in.

3 of my favorite mid-majors right there.

If the Bearcats go 2-2 in their last 4, their in no doubt. Their win today in OT over Providence on the road was a big win to back up their win over Louisville.

The bubble is pretty weak this season, so therefore you will probably end up seeing some teams you wouldn’t expect make it. Power conferences will get preferential treatment.

I hope my Spiders make it but that loss to Temple hurt. They have two very good wins with VCU and Purdue, also have won at Dayton. We’ll see what happens. 9-3 in a pretty good conference will help them.

Will be for sure decided in their last 3 games. Arizona at home, at the two Washington schools. Their game at Cal on Sunday is an important one also. They lack any major highlight victory, outside of home to St. John’s, a mediocre road east coast team, and home to BYU, which is the only win that truly jumps at you. They need to try to win one or two of their final 3. If they are unsuccessful, they need to go deep in the Pac 10 tournament.

ucla needs to lose a few in a row before they are on the bubble cause right now there is no question they are in. Just beat st johns 2 weeks ago. Victory over BYU. 1 point loss at kansas. They were 3-4 to start the year but have thrown it into another gear.

Watch out for Harvard, my dad’s alma mater.

20-4 (9-1) in the Ivy League.

Beat Colorado by 16 and beat BC by 9 at BC.

They have a 6’8 guy down low who crashes the boards, a handful of guys who can score on the wing (led by the long, athletic Kyle Casey), and a point guard who averages 5.5 dimes/game.

All of those teams, except Oklahoma State and MAYBE UTEP, will be in the tournament. UTEP will need to win the C-USA tournament to make it I’d say.

How is UCLA a bubble team? I think they would really have to tank the season to not get an invitation, and they are just getting better game by game.

You’re right in saying that UCLA isn’t a bubble team.

However, I don’t see how they’re getting better and better.

They’re just beating horrible Pac-10 competition by single digits every game.

The ACC and Pac-10 are awful this year.

Arizona plays a real team OOC in BYU and loses by 22.

UCLA loses to Montana by 9.

Oregon tied for 4th place loses to Idaho and gets killed by Virginia.

USC loses by 12 to TCU, loses to Bradley, and gets lynched by Rider to the tune of 20 points, LOL.

    Truly pathetic conference.

The ACC is garbage, too, outside Carolina and Duke.

    How have they improved llperez?

Yeah, they improved from last year to this year.

But they definitely haven’t been "getting better game by game."

They were playing their best ball in December when they beat BYU and almost beat Kansas.

Squirting by horrid Pac-10 teams on a 5-game win streak does not equate to getting better and better.

My local JV High School team could beat ASU, USC, Oregon, Oregon St, and Stanford.

I willl give them props on the St. John’s win, but I think Steve Lavin was sad or something and just gave them the win to be nice.

yeah you brought up the worst losses. How about ucla beatin byu and st johns. How about USC dominating texas and beating tennesse. Temple is top 25 and cal owned them. Gonzaga and baylor and a few other bubble teams all fell to pac 10 squads.

and you are crazy if you think they were playing ther best ball when they played kansas. Thye got beat by montana the very next game and were in the middle of a 4 game losing streak. Since the montana loss they are 16-3 and have been playing better. You can also watch the games instead of looking at scores. UCLA has zero seniors and plays a lot of underclassmen, they have grown significantly. Pac 10 as a whole is bad, but they have 3 very legit teams.

+1 llperez. I still kind of stick by what I said before but I guess I was kind of biased ignoring their best games.

I think maybe UCLA is decent and is deserving of an 8/9 seed.

But Arizona is clearly overrated being ranked #12 in the nation.

    That is ridiculous.

The 3 losses in UCLA’s 4 game losing streak were to good to excellent teams though (KU, Villanova, and VCU).

The BYU win came in the same month.

So the UCLA hate isn’t fair on my part.

    But still…Arizona is wayyyyyy overrated.

Connecticut, Villanova, Louisville, UNC, and Kentucky are all below Arizona and would house them.

Will likely make it, but let’s not pretend their resume is outstanding whatsover. It is not a great resume. They basically have one high-level victory, home to BYU. St. John’s at home is not a high-level victory, it’s a good one, but an east coast team with a poor road record isn’t something that jumps out as spectacular. The Pac 10 is not a great conference either, arguably weaker than a few mid-major conferences. I think UCLA will make it because I think since the bubble is weak this season, power conferences will get first dibs. But I also can easily see them not making it.

Yeah, the bubble is horrible this year.

Lunardi’s updated bracket that they showed last night on ESPN had Gonzaga, Butler, and BC as 3 of his final 4 teams in.

Peep their resumes. All of those teams are garbo this year.

Phase 1 complete. Losing to a really bad Cal team sets up a good possibility of losing three of their final four with a game against Arizona and a road trip to Washington.

By the way, the NCAA going to 68 teams has just dropped the bottom of the at-large pool to disgustingly mediocre levels.

cal is a competitive team that plays defense. I would say they are the 6th or 7th best team in th epac 10. UCLA losing in ot on the road with some very questionable calls is not the end of the world.

i expect ucla to beat ASU at home to improve to 20-8. Then they will probably win 1 of 3 games vs wash, wash st and arizona so that would put them at 22-10. 22-10 with a couple of big wins a top 40 sos a top 40 rpi, i think they get in. They will have to really fall off the map down the stretch.

IMO after the CAA big dogs dominated the bracket busters weekend they deserve at least 2 teams. George Mason is a shoe in for the tourny even if they dont’ win their conference and IMO ODU is close to locking up an at large bid although VCU could take over their spot depending on how they do in the conference tourny.

UCLA isn’t a very strong team, as are the vast majority of the bubble teams. This year was pretty weak in terms of the number of good teams, but UCLA probably will get in if they win at least 1 conference tourny game.

I do know ucla played and beat the mountain west’s best team and cal played and beat the atlantic 10’s best team. I just dont know how "phase 1 is complete" when ucla’s losses 1 game on the road in overtime. That doesnt really sound like a complete phase to me. BUt you have already stated you think ucla is just a flat out bad team, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
