Caboclo has next to no court awareness yet his raw skill and talent seems high enough to compensate for it. I’m sure he could have cracked an NBA rotation like Philly, New York, Minny, or LA Lakers but other teams wouldn’t have put up for his lack of awareness.

 When he played in the D-League he only got 9-minutes per game as the teams structure and rotations were set and naturally they were not going to reset that as they were not invested in Caboclo. In the NBA he only played extreme garbage time.

 It seems his body and athleticism is ready (a lot like a quicker Batum in those regards), his skills are ready as a good shooter all around the court, and a crafty finisher, with good handles that can run the floor. His length gives him amazing natural talent defensively. Although that all means nothing if he is unable to make defensive rotations, identify and defend players and schemes, understand the game and his teams offensive system, and play smarter basketball.

 His rookie year he worked mostly on his individual skills and refining his body and strength. He played a lot of one on one with James Johnson while JJ was in Dwayne Casey’s doghouse and vastly improved his English. His English is not quite there yet either but he should now be coach able. This upcoming year in the D-League he should be able to showcase his skills and learn the game.

He may not be Giannis Antetokoumpo or Kevin Durant but he seems to be a guy who can be one of the best 3 and D small forwards in the league if developed correctly.

 I think they should develop him as a stretch four. It would be a little easier of a position to learn and also a position of need for the raptors. It would also allow him not to have to worry about creating plays. He also would be an effective perimeter defender with his length.

Do you think it’s possible he could be Toronto’s no. 1 option 2 years from now based from what you see? Because I’m totally not sold with Derozan as the top option. He’s a good player but no way toronto makes it far with him chucking 20+ shots a game. No way.

 I see him playing one season in the D-League then cracking the rotation likely as a starter unless Ross steps his game up big time. I don’t see him as a 1st option anytime soon but he has tremendous upside and maybe in 3-4 years that’s a possibility.

But right now he needs to completely learn English and learn how to play organized team ball. He was picked 20th overall to get a 3 and D guy with his skillet there is a blessing.

 Something thats often overlooked I think is having the feel for the game. He seems very far away from achieving that atm. He will need some good mentoring to raise his basketball IQ. I think he can do that and also work on his handles to at least get it to nic batums level which is pretty average then he should be a very nice player for the raps. From what I see right now hes just too confused on both ends of the court.

Also I think raps fans should start taking a look at bebe, his energy and length is something that can really help us off the bench. I rather give him psycho T’s minutes and save a couple mill. It’ll also be interesting to see if both these guys play for their national teams at panams
