Former DeLand High School basketball star Keith Brumbaugh is once again in trouble with the law.

Brumbaugh, 25, was arrested early Sunday on a felony charge of discharging a firearm from inside a vehicle, the third time the DeLand native has been arrested since March.

According to a Daytona Beach police report, Brumbaugh and three passengers were in a 2002 black and silver Dodge truck driving on West International Speedway Boulevard when, after an argument with passengers in another car, Brumbaugh fired three to four shots into the air from a Smith & Wesson .357-caliber firearm.

Brumbaugh was then arrested, the third time he’s been arrested in Volusia County this year. The police report said there was currently a warrant out for his arrest in Putnam County.

Brumbaugh could not be reached for comment. Former agent Keith Kreiter said he hadn’t represented Brumbaugh "for seven or eight months."

According to court records, Brumbaugh was arrested March 17 for misdemeanor possession of cannabis under 20 grams, possession of paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license.

On June 28, Brumbaugh was arrested again on the exact same charges.

Until the recent series of arrests, the 6-foot-9 forward had appeared to be back on a path toward a pro basketball future. After five arrests in 2005 and 2006, Brumbaugh played one year at Hillsborough Community College before going undrafted in the 2008 NBA Draft.

He played 2008-09 in the NBA Development League, and had a preseason contract with the Denver Nuggets in 2009. He played last season in the D-League once again before a late-season injury ended his tenure.

The latest charge is a second-degree felony, which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison upon conviction.

Another example of great talent going to waste.

I remember he was considering on entering the NBA draft straight out of high school.  Probably wasn’t a good idea, but he obivously had the potential.

I remember Oklahoma State was going to have a sick recruiting class coming in in 2005.  Gerald Green, Keith Brumbaugh, Roderick Flemings, Byron Eaton, Terrel Harris, Kenny Cooper.  Green decided to go to the NBA, Brumbaugh got in trouble and never played a game, Flemings and Cooper transferred.  What could have been.

He’s probably going to do a bunch of time too. Sad, but I think they are going to make an example out of him
