dannyg219ParticipantBy signing the first openly gay center
Y! Sources: The Brooklyn Nets are targeting free agent center Jason Collins for a return to the franchise.

CynthiaParticipantI think it would be weird for Collins to go back and have Kidd as your coach when you used to play alongside him.

NCarmean18ParticipantHe won’t provide much of an impact on the court, honestly. The Nets went from little wiggle room to no wiggle room, so the only thing this team could do is sign players for the veteran minimum. Collins would be a great guy to have in the locker room, but apart from that, little to no impact in the actual game of basketball.

Sewok15ParticipantI’m sure Collins is a great guy to have in the locker room…and the bathroom, bedroom and kitchen as well.
Maybe Brook Lopez is his boyfriend…wouldn’t that be something….
Jokes…I love the gays.

Wavy BagelsParticipantI still don’t think the Nets can get that far in a fast paced, up tempo league, but I do like the acquisition of KG and now potentially Collins. A huge culture change for the franchise just off the strength of these two players alone.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantAren’t the Pacers the same way though?
The Pacers took Miami (a fast paced team) to 7 games while playing their half-court style.
If Deron Williams can control the tempo and play like Utah-Deron, I think the Nets have a real chance at getting to the ECF. Or at the very least, be a tough 2nd round out.

Arrrrghhh… Embed won’t work. Wtf? I’ve read instructions on the forum but they’re old and now there’s no such thing as plain text editor. (Or I’m stupid and can’t find it in which case it’s my bad)

Velvet HoopParticipantThe Nets are paying 87 mil to 6 players next season. The cap is roughly 70 mil. The new tax penalties kick in next season and the repeater tax the year after. As it stands right now, the Nets will be paying between $40-$45 mil in taxes because if you are $20 mil over the cap, you pay $3.75 for every dollar your team is over. It is pretty obvious that BK is going to have to surround that 6 with vets who will play for the minimum.

ProudGrandpaParticipantNo true basketball fan should care about this as a sports story. It’s not a sports story. We get it, Jason Collins is gay. So from now on, can we please just treat him as a basketball player?

lestweforget23ParticipantI like the trade for KG and The Truth, heck I even like the Jet in there, but do they really need to transform themselves into the oldest team in the league? The mindset of “put tons of veterans on your team” is an “old” one (pun intended). Over the past two seasons, the teams that have done well have added a little bit of youth to their rosters. Would it not serve the Nets a little better if they added some of the un-drafted free agents that were passed over in the draft? This serves two purposes; train the young guys, and surround them with winners, while also allowing for your bench to be a change-of-pace situation. I’m not doubting Billy King, he keeps pulling off big moves, but is signing Jason Collins really the answer at backup center or would signing a guy like Kenny Kaji/Dwayne Deadmon be a better move?
