ChicagoCaseyParticipantI kind of like where the Brooklyn Nets are headed given the fact that they don’t have their draft picks moving foward. But, I do like their young talent on their roster. I believe Chris McCullough would’ve been in the lottery discussion if he didn’t tear his ACL when he was Syracuse and have potential in him. In my opinion, Isaiah Whitehead can turn into a Lance Stevenson type of situation, not saying they are nothing a like in terms of playing style, he can be really good while being a second round pick. During his games against Kris Dunn he outplayed him, not saying he’s better or anything, but he can really play the game and if he would’ve stayed he most likely would’ve been a top 20 pick. They still have Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, who was hurt last season, but is really promising as a defender in this league and player in this league. And you have Caris Levert have a boatload of talent, lottery type. I didn’t believe he would go first round given his injury history, but I always thought he was super talented for a shooting guard in this league. They have 4 players that under 22 on their roster, The Nets had to make gambles and hope that they hit, Caris Levert is a gamble worth risking for, can be a very good player in the league.
The big question in the room for Brooklyn is who can they get from Brook Lopez. He’s obviously not apart of the future, but he have so much value in a trade that can get you another first round pick or a couple of young players in the trade deadline. The old managment missed up by letting the Celtics robbed them for all their assets, but they are going in a better direction even if they don’t have those high draft picks. They are taking players that are gambles, but are very talented and can be really good players in the future in the first/second round of the draft. I like what the new Nets are doing with their future.

ChicagoCaseyParticipantForgot all about Sean Kilpatrick too. He’s a good young player on their roster.

PrecociousNeophyteParticipantMcCullough looked lost at times while on the court this year but hopefully that was just from getting back in the groove from not playing in a year. Let’s see how he comes out in year two. RHJ defense and athleticism got him in the nba needs to develop offensive game. Ugly looking shot maybe needs to break it down and build it back up.
the levert pick will look great if he stays healthy but foot problems sometimes never go away. Decent gamble though. Was hoping they would take dejounte Murray. Surprised he lasted all the way to pick 29.
brook Lopez will be tough to part ways with since he is a great person and basketball player but I think they are going to have to do it. Wonder if they talked to the Celtics about getting a one or two of their 80 picks back that they traded away for Lopez. Lopez would be great in Boston.

220ParticipantIf I’m the Nets I’d definitely call the Celtics up and see if they could get any of their picks back in exchange for Brook Lopez. I’m not sure Boston would be willing to give any of the Nets picks up though. Hopefully Sean Marks was a worthy student to RC Buford in San Antonio and can bring parts of that culture and infrastructure to the Nets otherwise Boston will continue getting high lottery talent while being a playoff team.

pokieParticipantI Agree. They’re becoming a System Team, using the San Antonio Model: Player Development. They’re drafting good size for the position (with defensive potential) and coaching them up. I think they hit homeruns with LeVert and Whitehead. Both are very advanced offensively, very Parker and Ginobili. If Hollis-Jefferson and McCullough can master the three-ball to spot up with Kilpatrick and Bogdanovic and they land a few quality bigs with their cap space (rim protection is a real need) and Jarret Jack is not broken (man, this is a lot of ands) they could be better sooner than expected. After this great draft they just need a couple of good young guys coming off their Rookie Contracts. I could even see them outbidding a team or two for a young Restricted Free Agent if they think that player could be a cornerstone piece to their rebuild. It will be tough though. The Eastern Conference is rising. They’re not just going to sign anyone (finally). I know it’s a longshot, but I’d love to see them sneak into the Playoffs to help reduce the swelling on that horrible trade with Boston.

OhCanada-ParticipantI love the optimisim everyone has for this team and I hate to be that guy but I just can’t help it. As Masai Ujiri said, F*ck Brooklyn! They are still in big trouble and need alot of help come free agency.
So far they have basically swapped Jarrett Jack and Thad Young for Caris Levert and Isaiah Whitehead. Although Bogdanovic and Kilpatrick (one of my favourite college players of all time) have shown improvement, they are 27 and 26 and don’t quite show the ability to be more than starters/quality rotation players. RHJ has alot of upside but has to get that jumpshot down. McCullough still needs to add 30 pounds and prove he is an NBA player.
I would be signing players on decent contracts and then overusing them to boost thier value, then trade them at the deadline to a contender for assets.
I would also be looking into some sneaky trades. Like try to trade Lopez for Miami’s 17, 19, 21 1st round draft picks if they lose Whiteside or something like that where you think a team is on the decline and you may get lucky eventually and get a chance in the lotto.

Numbers_CruncherParticipantIf they can get their picks back from Boston then I’d probably trade Lopez, but I think their best bet is to sign some young vets to decent deals and try to increase their trade value. Brandon Jennings, Dion Waiters, Donantas Motiejunas are three young guys whose stocks are low.

HitsterParticipantI’ve often thought that Brook Lopez may be a target for the Celtics possibly with 3rd pick this year but would Nets give up their best player to get their own assets back I wondered.
My other thought was would Ainge have the neck to offer 16th, 23rd, 31st and 35th this year for Lopez, that would have given the Nets multiple picks in this years draft but kept all the high picks due to Boston.
Caris LeVert should be NBA ready but I still think 20th may have been a bit high for him if the Nets are drafting on upside.
They will have about $30 million in cap space to get to minimum level so could use the money to get FAs as their money is as good as any other teams for someone wanting to be paid but not bothered about contending. They could offer someone the spot as top player too.
The other way to go could be trade Lopez to save more money and look to get picks back by taking on a salary dump or two throughout the season.
