McDunkinAfter being passed up for the Lakers’ head coach job in favor of Mike Brown, Brian Shaw was (well, is) understandably upset. He talked about the whole thing on ESPN radio, and iamagm compiled Beto Duran’s tweets on the matter, which you can read below:
Brian Shaw to @710ESPN on how he found out he wasn’t going to coach Lakers “found out about not getting job on ESPN”
Shaw didn’t talk to any Lakers front office until 3 weeks after decision
Brian Shaw “power that were making decisions, felt team needed a change of culture, new voice, head in new direction”
Shaw on being told Lakers needed change “found it peculiar, because in my 12 years gone to Finals 7 x and won 5 championships”
Shaw “felt like 29 other teams in league would love to have that culture, but there’s a change in power in who’s calling shots”
Shaw not blaming Kupchak for lack of communication “only so much he can do. Has people over his head and has to follow directions”
Shaw on Lakers not talking with him, Kobe, Ronnie Lester & others “room for improvement”
Brian Shaw too classy “way it was communicated is part that hurts, but if people in charge had to do it again, they’d do it different”
Brian Shaw on Jim Buss “Did get a voice mail from Dr.Buss which I appreciated. Not spoken at all with Jim Buss”
Shaw “last spoke with Jim during interview. Would like to have heard from horses mouth where I went wrong or thought process”

ProudGrandpaParticipantUs Pacers fans were shocked to get Phil Jackson’s heir apparent as the Pacer’s assistant head coach instead. Quite a drop in stature.

Jlv2011now he doesn’t have to coach that circus of a team they call the Lakers. The Los Angeles Kobes are on the downhill and the Pacers are on a promising uphill in the Eastern conference.

Moon RiverParticipantI am more than a little concerned on how the Mike Brown hiring went down. Only Dwight Howard can save them now.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantShaw should’ve asked Shaq about Buss and Kupchak’s 2 faced underhanded dealings….

JordanC20ParticipantI think Mike Brown was a great hire…he got fired after a 60 win season lol
They gave LeBron too much credit.

rydawgswParticipantComing from a lifelong Cavs fan, Mike Brown deserved the hiring.. His offensive strategy is just, well, awful.. Defensively, yes, he was pretty good.. Plus, he was too "buddy buddy" with LeBron and would often tuck his tail and let LeBron run the show.. Maybe that’ll work with Kobe who is older, more mature, and knows what it takes to win.. But it sure as hell wasn’t working with LeBron and Cleveland (60 wins means nothing if you never do anything in the post season with it)..

IndianaBasketballParticipantI think the whole Cleveland organization was guilty of being too "buddy buddy" with LeBron.
He had some flaws, but IF Mike Brown is guilty of anything, I think it was playing too much to LeBron’s ball dominant strengths. I don’t think he stressed the importance of playing/moving without the ball and developing a post game. Everything was dribble dribble dribble through LeBron, which didn’t work in the playoffs like it did in the regular season (Similar to Rose and the Bulls this past season). LeBron got his numbers, but the offense was stagnant and predictable.
Brown is young and has learned from his past mistakes. I thought he was a good hire for the Lakers. And unlike in Cleveland, he will have more than just one offensive weapon.
But I do agree… Brian Shaw should’ve been treated a lot better. I’m happy he’s with the Pacers though. He’s not the head coach, but will have more responsibilities than just your average assistant. I don’t expect him to be with the Pacers for too long. He’ll be a head coach really soon.
