OldSkoolBasketballParticipantBrandon Roy Discussing Comeback: It sounds like Brandon Roy will attempt to make an NBA comeback next season. After months of rumors and speculation, he confirmed the news last night on Twitter.
Last night, Roy took to Twitter to answer questions from fans. Since he doesn’t have an account on the social media website, he used the account of his close friend and fellow Seattle player Will Conroy to interact with fans and comment on the rumors.
“Lord willing, I will play again soon,” Roy wrote in a series of tweets. “Yes, I’m preparing for a comeback. I’m training daily. I’m preparing for a return next year. I appreciate the love. Hopefully I’ll be back on the floor soon. Health is good.”
When asked if he would return to the Portland Trail Blazers, Roy said it’s unlikely.
“I wish, but due to the NBA rules I cannot play in Portland until 2014-2015,” Roy tweeted. “I’m looking to return sooner. Thanks for your support. I’m fortunate to have played for such a great fan base. No matter where I play, Portland will always have a special place in my heart.”
Sources close to Roy say that his training is going well and he’s feeling great. He’ll likely work out in Seattle as he prepares for the upcoming season.

FUNKYBUNCHParticipantBrandon Roy is great for the NBA! Hope he makes it- and makes out well!

Zeke313ParticipantGood if I were a team like New Orleans I’d look into signing him, if it works out this could be the type of move that jumpstarts the rebuilding process tremendously. And if it doesn’t, hey can’t fault them for trying

mgreener_34ParticipantI think it only fitting that Roy go to a contender were he doesn’t have to do too much, but also gets some playing time. I wonder how much he will be asking for? Surely he has to prove that he can really play effectively.
If he’s on the cheaper side I could see many playoff teams bringing him in for a bench role. Every team could use Brandon Roy

220ParticipantGood for Brandon Roy. It was a shame to see him retire. It will suck for Portland if he comes back and can continue playing at an all star level though.

TMoney617ParticipantI hope he knows what he’s doing. I wouldn’t want him not being able to walk at 40 years old. If he can come back to 70% the player he was he could be a great 6th man for a contender.

surveParticipantRoy still has a lot to offer. He can play, no doubt. Would be great for a lot of teams. Especially contenders like Miami, OKC, San Antonio, etc…but I really cringe at the thought of him playing with the bone on bone.

Professor RozayParticipantWhat a great come back story if it happens…He is a really good player…Hope he makes this come back…I think a team like Boston could use him…

raybeasParticipantif he just stays away from Portland’s training staff.

The8thDeadlySinParticipantI wonder how many experimental surgeries he has had on those knees? Lots of procedures that US doctors won’t do….
I hope he comes back. He was one of my favorite players.

HaleParticipantAm I the only one disappointed that he’s probably not going to be able to walk because of this?

torontoraptors10ParticipantGo to Phoenix Brandon! They’ll make your knees feel amazing! Ask Grant Hill!!

HitsterParticipantFully agree with Toronto Raptors, Phoenix would be a great fit as their medical staff are so good. I wold wonder how will back to back games effect Roy, in other sports players who have similar issues can continue if they have recovery time but an NBA schedule does not allow this.
It would be great if Roy came back but hope it does impact on him in later life.

rhamnlacsonParticipanta weak team like the bobcats would need a guy like brandon roy

HaleParticipant"Go to Phoenix Brandon! They’ll make your knees feel amazing! Ask Grant Hill!!"
No training staff in the NBA can replace knee cartilage. It doesn’t matter where he goes, he’s still going to be grinding the bones in his knees together everytime he plays and it’s eventually going to cost him the ability to walk.
What he needs to do is stay retired, or go find some experimental treatment to try and regain cartilage and come back after that. All he is doing by coming back like this is destroying his life after basketball, while still not being able to play every day anyway. I like Roy, but those are the only two smart choices.

bswervesParticipantThe Bobcats should defintiely try to scoop up Roy if they can. And then add Greg Oden. And trade the #2 pick for additional first rounders this year (in an ideal situation #6 and #11 from Portland). If they add two players like Beal at 6 and Zeller at 11 that would give them something like:
Kemba
Beal/Roy
Henderson
Biyombo
Oden/Zeller
That team could compete

frogmanParticipantThe most overrated group of people on this site are the Suns training staff. Just because Grant Hill has sort of revitalised his career there and Steve Nash is still playing at an all star level in his late 30’s is not all because of their trainers. People on this site act like they are healers with devine powers, its kind of embarrassing.

YoungKINGSParticipantD.Williams/ B.Roy/G.Wallace/Humphries/B.Lopez
would be dope if B.Roy returned healthy and D Will stayed

IndianaBasketballParticipantHe seems focused on playing next season and he’ll get his chance. I just wish him the best. One of my favorite players.
He’s a West Coast guy, so I see him considering teams in the Pacific and North West.

HitsterParticipantI wonder if the Pacers could be an option, Indyball posting above gave me that idea and they also have Kevin Pritchard in their front office who had strong links to Roy in Portland.
Ideally Brandon would look to get on a play-off/contender team where he could be used as a role player covering around the main guys and not playing excessive minutes.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 06/17/2012 - 6:10am #682705

IndianaBasketballParticipant@Y2GInstead of looking at it like the Suns’ training staff could heal/cure Roy and give him new meniscus, look at it as them just helping him minimize the pain and find creative ways to preserve his knees throughout the season. Or maybe they can help strengthen other parts of his leg in general to where that’ll help him get the max out of what he has left in his knees. That’s what those guys with the Suns are known for. They’re really creative and unorthodox when it comes to this. Shaquille O’Neal had a bad toe that was leading to so many other problems. They didn’t magically cure his toe, but they did other things to help to strengthen his body and Shaq said he felt the best he’d ever felt in years.IF he’s healthy enough and can actually help us, I’d love him here. I think he’d could give us 15-20 very good minutes and be on the floor when it matters to close games.0 - Posted on: Sun, 06/17/2012 - 8:09am #682739
kaceyParticipantSo he can’t play for the Blazers the next two seasons, but can play anywhere else? Is this due to the amnesty?
0 - Posted on: Sun, 06/17/2012 - 9:41am #682763

HitsterParticipantThanks for the feedback Indyball, it just seemed a good fit for your team, he could play around Hill, George, Grainger etc and as Barbosa is an FA, he could be a nice replacement for him.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 06/17/2012 - 12:23pm #682824

HaleParticipantThat’s an excellent point. I didn’t consider that. I still believe that it’s the wrong move coming back to the NBA though.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 06/17/2012 - 12:28pm #682827
lilballa141ParticipantI don’t care what team he goes to. I just hope that a return won’t effect him long term just for the sake of a few more years of playing. It would be great to see him comeback. He was once the 3rd best SG after you know who
