Brandon Roy is passionate about basketball. His love of the game came through every time you talked to him. He’s very competitive. It’s why he kept racing back from knee injuries to get on the court for the playoffs — he wants to be out there.

So I guess this report out of US Basket (via Hoopshype) shouldn’t be a shocker:

Roy is thinking about a comeback.

‘It’s hard being away from the game. Don’t be surprised if you see Brandon Roy make his way back to the court…”

According to sources close to the player, regardless of his knee problems, Roy’s decision to retire wasn’t all health related. “There’s something to it, but it’s not the right time for me to get into it right now,” Roy said. “I’ve been doing some treatment and I’m trying to leave the window open to returning to basketball.”

When met with skepticism regarding his comeback, Roy explained, “It’s the truth. It’s really hard being so far away from the game. I spend time watching Jamal (Crawford) and following all of his games; Will (Conroy) and Tre (Simmons) are both doing their thing, so it’s driving me to wanna come back out there. If the treatment I’ve been looking into can work, I believe there’s a good chance you will see Brandon Roy back hoopin’.”

We don’t know what this therapy is (the treatment Kobe Bryant got?), but unless it can regenerate cartilage, I’m not sure it will work. His knees are just worn out. He retired before the start of this season because of them.

I can only imagine how hard it is for Roy to walk away from the game he loves at what should be the prime of his career. This guy was a three-time All-Star, a Rookie of the Year, the anchor of a good Blazers team. But after everything I don’t want to have to watch him struggle through a comeback attempt.

I agree with juves. Sign him to a vet’s minimum, 1 year, incentive-ized deal, and that would be amazing for the Wolves. It would finally give them a legit starting 2, and give them the last piece they need for a deep playoff run. Of course, they’d need to make sure to get somebody to actually back Roy up- maybe go after a 2 or 3 in the draft if the Jazz make the playoffs

Clippers …this man with a will to win and an ultimate team player can slide into that SG position,He even if he is a shell of himself can will some good games and just be another player to show the Clippers how to win..Wow how sick would a Roy in his prime would of been next to CP3 and Blake

Even if he doesn’t pan out it’ll just be a min deal and he’ll still be getting his 100 mill from the Blazers

Yeah he got Amnestied no way he goes back to Portland and no one bid for him so he’s a legit FA I believe who can sign with whom ever he choses

 Do you really think he could start for a team? I don’t think he could play more than 20 min a game, treatment or no treatment, and I’m kind of optimistic about that. He is the type of player that needs the ball in his hands to be effective, so in Minny que would have to learn to play off the ball, because no way he could handle the rock with RRubio on the team. I could see him playing in LA Clippers off the bench for Maurice Williams. That would be rare because he will share team with y Foye, for whom the Timberwolds trade Roy. That backourt would be great , because t will have two geat bankhalders

I think he could start at PG for the Lakers.  Plus, Kobe really likes Brandon and they would be a dynamic backcourt even with Roy’s injury woes.  Probably the most skilled backcourt the league has seen in years.

 BallisLife. The NBA is an unattainable dream for so many people in the world that once you reach it, you’re achieving your dreams. Leaving that because your body can’t handle must leave a very sour taste in his mouth. I would love to see him back on the court just because he’s such a great guy/player.

That being said… I hope he goes to the Wolves (we passed on him for Randy Foye… Ouch), Bulls (even coming off the bench), or the Clippers.

I believe he can probably give it ONE more shot. He can play the PG role without his athleticism, quite like RON HARPER did during his time with the Bulls and Lakers. That is a little known fact as well. But his IQ could keep him in the league pending the treatment.

 Im all for brandon Roy comming back to the NBA.  It’s really unfortunate that a great player and all around good guy had to have his career cut short by those flimsy knees.  He wont be the player he was, but if he can capture good health, he can probably be a solid role player and a good guy to have on your team.

LOL! I like the idea Roy coming to the Bulls. He could be that great spark the Bulls are missing off the bench. It’s a low risk high reward pick, like the Pistons when signed T-Mac. He also provides the Chicago a good veteran player that is not going to affect the chemistry. But again, it could be more likely that Roy would end up signing with the Clippers, if he ever returns. They could offer more minutes at the SG spot, backing up Randy Foye, and if he returns to be the old ROY (or at least 50%) he could even start. Is like Caron Butler, no one would thought that this guy could ever return from his las injury, and he is now an important piece of the Clippers’ offense.

 There is nothing Roy can do to bring back the meniscus he lacks 100% of in both knees. 

Unless there’s some German surgery that I don’t know about, Roy is done. It’d be insane to come back and try to play with his condition.

If Brandon could come back it would be great but I would not want him to risk his long term health when hopefully he maybe has another 60 odd years to live.

I did wonder if he may look at a comeback at sometime but not so soon after retiring. I would wonder if he could play back games before you factor in all the travelling an NBA season involves even if they do go first class, for a 6ft 6ins guy that could still be an issue with his knee.

Would a team look at him as a bit part player maybe not doing road trips or even to come in for the play off runs perhaps. It would be a great story but personally I don’t see Brandon coming back as a full time NBA player anytime soon. But if it didn’t cause him any long term damage then he can give it a whirl.
