BleedGreen808ParticipantApparently Knight is going to get 5years 70mil from the Suns when free agency opens. Any thoughts on if Knight is worth the conract or not?

zcnumerounoParticipantGuards grow on trees nowadays. I don’t think he’s worth it – he’s not great in any particular category.

Lotto StudParticipantI believe he’s worth it despite being a homer. Here’s the thing. Brandon Knight is a Point Guard. Brandon Knight is a Shooting Guard. Brandon Knight is the definition of a high quality Combo Guard without limitations to not be worth the pay. Knight’s I.Q. for either position sets him apart from all of the guys in comparison to the skill he brings to he floor for being able to excel on and off the ball.

GBeeParticipantKnight’s IQ? This is literally the first time I’ve ever seen Knight’s IQ being mentioned in a positive light. To me he’s clearly a low IQ player. Can’t run an offense to save his life and he has poor shot selection which is a major reason why he’s an inefficient scorer. People talk about his defense being a plus, yet he had a negative defensive RAPM, negative dRPM and negative dBPM. Not exactly signs of being even an average defender.
He’s become a solid shooter who can get his own shot a bit, that’s about it. Mediocre player overall though. They traded for him, even giving up a pick to get him so extending him is not a surprise. The money is an overpay given his overall impact, but it’s not terrible given the impending cap increase. I’d be more concerned about locking in long-term on such a mediocre player. That’s the type of move treadmill teams make.

Lotto StudParticipantAfter all that was spoken. The Milwaukee Bucks did make the playoffs because of his hot start. Let’s not forget it because he was MIA this postseason.

GBeeParticipantInterestingly enough, the Bucks were +3 when Knight was off the court.

Lotto StudParticipantFair take. But, you still cannot discredit him for what he was able to bring in. He’s worth it. He may not be the wow factor but he gets the job done more than one way.
Just compare his contract to Eric Bledsoe’s then compare the two as players off-the-ball.

GBeeParticipantWhat job does he get done? Inefficient scoring? Is that really that valuable?
To me, he’s a 6th man. If he can become more consistent with his 3 ball maybe he could be a Jet Terry type.
I’m not a huge fan of Bledsoe either but I think he’s the better playmaker of the 2 with his better ability to penetrate and break down the D. EB actually does something at a very high level in this league too and that’s defend (2nd highest dRPM among PGs in the league.)

GBeeParticipantGoran Dragic for one.
The fact is that 2 teams before his rookie contract was up have gotten a close look at him trying to run an offense and said nope. TBH, there aren’t many starting points I’ve seen in recent years run an offense worse than Knight. IMO, he’s not a combo by virtue of being effective at either spot. He’s a combo because you really wouldn’t want him on the ball and he’s PG sized. I mean, I guess you could say that he can defend either guard position well, yet he hasn’t posted a positive dRAPM in his entire career.

Mad MaxParticipantWell he’s still very young and coming off his season as pro, granted he’s on his 3rd team but I think he’s a above average player in fact he was a borderline Allstate with Milwaukee. He took a bit of a dip with Phoenix but he was coming over to a team with a lot makeover in the middle of the season and he was playing a different role with Bledsoe. I think he’s a very good two way player, can guard any backcourt player, good scorer, shooter, playmaker. He’s only going to get better, and Phoenix gave up a lot to trade for him. If I were Phoenix I would invest a lot in him. He’s not a franchise player but he’s certainty a big piece for building a contender going forward.

omphalosParticipantI think he’s a good fit in Phoenix, should really thrive under Hornacek and that contract won’t look so bad once the cap jumps.
He’s an underrated defender, has good shooting range and brings intangibles.
I have no problem with this contract and I think Bledsoe and Knight could make a hell of a backcourt down the line.

CoachWyersParticipantI think looking at his market value something in the 5 year 60-65mil range would be more like it so I think they overpayed for him slightly. He has some potential All Star years ahead of him I think his shot has really come around so he can space the floor when he doesn’t have the ball in his hands and that helps since he is playing in the Suns two guard attack. I think if he gambled less on defense he could become a lockdown defender on the perimeter which would take his game up another level so he still has potential to grow.

benny15Participantif he takes this deal then i think its of fair value. i think its a little high but not completely out of the range of the caliber of players like him get. im not reffering to the perrenial all-stars but the ones that make an appearance once or twice in their career or always in the all-snub list. the montas, j-riches, and david lees. they all make that kind of money under the current cap.
in the new cap though, that becomes great value. it basically will be equating to a 8.6 mill a year deal in todays cap which i think is a bargain for a player of his caliber. the ones that fall into the same bargain currently are mike conley and jeff teague.

Stephen A. BaylessParticipantI wouldn’t want to pay a non all-star over $10-12 million (Besides a good center), especially a scoring combo guard that you could probably get any year BUT it’s not a bad deal because the Suns have a very healthy salary cap situation. The length could be problematic, and I would have held out that 5th year unless needed.
Knight’s upside could be Wizards Larry Hughes-ish level with a 3pt shot but probably without the 1st team defense. More than likely, he becomes Jamaal Crawford before he settled into becoming a great 6th man. Worst case he becomes a slightly better but overpaid OJ. Mayo. I think he’s a long term 2 that could give spot minutes at the point.
The Suns now have some semblance of a core locked up, but how good is it? They have "assets" but teams aren’t in a rush to give up much for young players with little playing experience and heavily protected picks. Teams also have to be carefully because with the cap going up everything is still relative. We hear "you can over play player X, because next year it’ll be a lower pct, but role players will become more expensive, max contracts will go up, etc. The good teams won’t use up all the new cap before it even comes into effect.

JordoParticipantThis is an over pay even with the salary cap rising. What has Brandon Knight done exactly to warrant a mini max contract in this current CBA? He was a borderline all star and was a key piece that helped the Bucks into playoff contention but i’m not seeing him as a 70 mil guy when he doesn’t do one thing that wows you. He’s just "ok" or slighty above average at a lot.
