MelParticipantJennings thinks he knows one of the factors why. Evans and Curry both wear Nike, Team USA’s big sponsor. Jennings wears Under Armour shoes.
“It’s not my call. That’s on them,” Jennings told Yahoo! Sports. “But if you want to get technical about it and you really want to look at it, half of the guys there are Nike guys. I’m not saying it’s a Nike thing, but Nike is kind of running a lot of things right now. To have a guy like myself on the USA team that’s flashy and really outgoing, you don’t want Under Armour to get all that [publicity].
“I’m just telling you how it is.”
Peep how the picture covers Dwight, ADIDAS player. He also covers the SWOOSH.
Politics and Basketball, smh.

jeff416ParticipantNike does control who makes some teams, to a certain extent though.
I know for a FACT that for the Jordan Brand game they do pick some players just because of what shoes they wear in aau games. I don’t know how much influence they have in team USA, but I’m sure they have a little. I’m not saying that was the reason Jennings wasn’t invited to training camp, but they do have some input on who makes certain teams.

SteroidParticipantHe wouldn’t have made the team anyway. The only reason why Curry, a first year player, got in is because, in theory, he is supposed to be good against the zone and good in international play.

gainsey15ParticipantHe may or may not have made the team but the fact that he was invited to try out despite the fact that he has FIBA experience having spent a year in Italy is kind of funny too me.

RickyRubio9Participant3 of those players are Team Jordan (‘Melo, CP3, & Wade)
The rest were Nike besides Dwight who’s shoe was coincendentally(spell-check) covered.
I doubt they care that much on the brand of shoe… B. Jennings simply isn’t fit for FIBA Play in my opinion, he isn’t a great shooter & doesn’t do well with contact from the times I saw him play.
Although I could be completely wrong..
& I’m saying this as one of the bigger fans for Jennings.0 - Posted on: Tue, 09/14/2010 - 8:16pm #401498

MrAnalystI do not think that Jennings is completely fit for the FIBA game, but it is not his jumpshot. Jennings has a pretty good jump shot out to the NBA three point range, and has a very good mid-range game. He would probably be a pretty good 3 point shooter from FIBA range. Just remember the game against Golden State where he was nailing mid-range jumpers all game and NO-ONE could stop him. He is not a serious threat from deep, but he definetley isn’t a bad shooter. A lot better than the other young point guards on the team like Rose and Westbrook.

TylerTallenParticipantpretty sure he was referring to dwight’s shoes. everyone has the nike label on their chest, so covering it doesnt mean anything.
and nike owns converse.
not saying there is anything there to be worth talking about or not, but i don’t put it past nike to do something like that.

Jlv2010YOU are not good enough to make Team USA. Sorry man, truth hurts but keep improving your game and maybe someday you can make the All-Star team. Thanks.

gainsey15ParticipantMaking the team is one thing, but I just feel that him not getting a chance to try out for the despite the fact that he’s a player who’s played a season under FIBA rules.
