I’m a Brandon Jennings fan, I’ve enjoyed his game since high school, I’ve sometimes defended in his most horrible of moments. But he’s on a tear right now and I have to say, it’s impossible for Josh Smith to have brought so much negativity to that team. They are 9-1 since the trade. Drummond is kiling, Monroe is playing better, Jennings is playing better, Meeks is healthy and shooting threes, Augustin is playing great.

But back to Jennings, i’m not saying he will ever be an all-star but if Drummond and maybe Monroe if he stays, continue to grow, can he be the right point guard for that team in the long run?

In the last 10 he’s averaging- 20.3 points, 1.4 steals, 7 assists, and 2.9 rebounds, while shooting 46% from the field and 42% from three all in 28 minutes per game. Can this team, can he keep this up for the rest of the season? Now let me say, he has still been Brandon Jennings during these 10 games, he still has shot some low percentages or coach would pull DJ Augustin in to finish games, so it’s really a game of averages but if you pull those averages for a whole season, you take the good with the bad.

“Jennings’ finally bought into himself of being taught the game. That’s a gigantic leap of belief he took within himself to openly acknowledge his biggest flaw as a professional starting point guard. Once one openly acknowledges their own flaw, it gives no leverage for anyone to use the flaw against them. I’m rooting for him to turn it around still. If I were Stan Van Gundy, I would be issuing film by the string of Jason “White Chocolate” Williams’ career Sacramento/Memphis (Hubie Brown) transitional phase.”

Him and KCP both still take ill-advised shots.  Jennings pulls up for 3 on a 3-2 fastbreak.

If Monroe and Drummond are the key pieces, I would like to see them get the ball more. (Most of Drummond’s pts come off rebounds)

I believe when he puts it together for a much longer stretch.  Jennings seems to have a stretch like this every season.  I remember after the Bucks acquired Redick he averaged like 15 assists for the first 4 or 5 games they had him or something insane like that and Bucks fans were hoping he might have finally kicked his habit of being a jacker and then he went right back to it.

He is playing great right now though, as is the rest of that team.

Wasn’t there a thread not to long ago about BJ being the worst starting pg in the nba…funny how people hop on the bandwagon when the pistons ditch smith and start winning

I’ve been hurt since we let go Knight but now that I understand the game more and have watched our Pistons particularly the bigs I see Jennings as a terrific long term solution for Detroit depending on the money he wants. What he lacks in physical dominance he makes up in basketball skill and headiness. He plays off of the threats of his strengths and his teammates strengths to manipulate his defender to open a scoring opportunities for himself or for an open pass. He makes these decisions very quickly and makes good passes while understanding what his teammate needs to be in an opportune position. He keeps the perimeter guys like KCP and Singler involved so that they may ease the load on the bigs while also giving the opposing defense an extra threat to think about. Before he had to be a scorer in MIL but here he can pick and choose the time to use his stepbacks and when he starts getting hot he can fill it up. He’s even been better on D and I think the entire team is as well. When you have an anchor like Drummond to rely on and other good team defenders like Singler and KCP (can be very a good MAN D guy as well) and even Monroe (even though he DOES NOT block shots) it makes his role on defense less demanding because they’ve created a defense that plays with and around each other at least that’s what I’ve seen from that group. Bottom line he’s orchestrating this teams offense beautifully and I want him and the rest of the core guys to stay together because with the chemistry they’ve shown in this limited stretch I think they have the potential to be a TOP TIER team in the East.
