According to Coach K, Brandon  has gained 23 pounds since being on campus. 23 pounds!!! I do question it  because even though he does look like he has gained a decent amount of size, Coach K said he was now in the low 190s. His ESPN scouting report said that he was weighed at 198 in high school so someone’s numbers are wrong. Also coach said that because he was gained weight he will be playing some 4 this year.

His weight was initially reported way wrong. He probably weighed 170-175 in HS. No joke. He’d been listed as 190 or so on here (which I have complained on here about).

Maybe he is up to 190 now. If so, hooray! He’s my favorite player in the draft. And THE most important thing for him is to gain weight. I hope he gains 20 more by the end of the season (not likely).

Duke and Weightroom are never in the same sentence… I highly doubt Ingram has put that much size on, if its bad weight aka weight that raised body fat count, hes going to lose it during season anyways.. Gaining 20 pounds of solid mass in the amount of time Ingram has would require a serious diet and Gear aka roids.. 5-10 pounds sounds realistic and thats Ingram really busting his ass in the gym.

Saw pics, he looks the same. He’s got wide shoulders but extremely thin small bones similar to Durant. His weight and size will always be a concern but as long as his strength is never a concern also similar to Durant. Durant’s not the biggest guy but he’s definite not the weakest either. Ingram should focus on the same.

No such thing as small bones everyones bones are typically the same density, bur if I was Ingrams trainer id work hard to put size on his back and work on his glutes and hamstrings for mass. It will bulk him up.. Notice the smaller the back and glutes the smaller the frame..

Anyone expecting Brandon Ingram to be Kevin Durant at Texas are in for a rude-awakening.  Playing Ingram at the 4 is asinine to me but might be Coach K’s best option.  Brandon Ingram has the core strength of a sixth grader.  While Ingram will have the quickness advantage over most 4’s in the country, he is going to get absolutely punished on the block.  He’ll be going against guys naturally stronger than him and guys having been on a college strength and conditioning program much longer than him.  Guys should be licking there chops if they see Ingram trying to guard them down low.

Ingram is more Tayshaun Prince than Kevin Durant.. Everyone sees a tall skinny kid now with the size of a forward and ball skills of a guard and hes automatically the next Kevin Durant..Ballislife does it at least once a year.

Gained 23 pounds but is still at 190-200? And he’s 6’9? Lol boy needs to hit the gym hard. If those were 23 pounds of muscle then good for him. But like what the above poster said, if its all bad weight/fats he gained, I see it more as a downside than upside,

I am the board UNC homer (TarheelRaven and I will have a duel til the end of that title), but am also a huge Ingram fan and have been since his sophomore year of HS.  So with that being said, this is a Coach K PR stunt (albeit small).  He has always been in the 185-195 range, and for his game to flourish, I think it is best for him to stop bulking around 210-215.  That was some good comic relief today.

You know more about Ingram than I do, but I think people are expecting him to carry Duke to another final four and I just don’t see it.  I think he’s a good player, but nowhere near what people think he is.  Did I want him to come to Carolina?  Absolutely.  Do I think he’s an all-american and future all-star?  No.  This site has him going in the top 5 in next years draft.  Maybe I’m missing something ncballer but I think he’s massively overrated.  I think he might be one of the most arrogant incoming freshman I have ever seen.  His sneer makes me sick.

In my opinion, massively overrated?  No.  If I were to give that title to a Dookie it would be Chase Jeter.

Slightly overrated?  At the moment yes.  Do I think he is a top 5 player from this class?  Yes.  The guy outplayed Jaylen Brown 3 consecutive times, and scored from all 3 levels consistently.  That being said, outside of Ben Simmons (I am assuming Skal does not qualify), IMHO we are going to be slightly dissapointed with the "readiness" of this years freshman class to contribute in college.  This is a weak class.  In my opinion Rawle Alkins who is currently ranked number 20 according to scout.com would be top 5 in the 2016 class.

Ingram IMHO will start at the 4.  K will have to do it because Jeter is not that good.  He and Jefferson are redundant.  Anytime Jeter faced anyone that could match his size, he has looked average.  I for the life of me cannot understand his hype.  He could surprise me, but color me severly underwhelmed by him.

Ingram will get his.  He will average around 15 ppg.  He will be pretty inconsistent, and he will have games where Duke fans will be praising him and others where they treat him terribly.  In that aspect, I think his season will be very close to what McAdoo’s sophomore and junior seasons were at NC.  He will flash signs of greatness, then turn around and be non existent due to his lack of strength and the physicality of Division I b-ball.  He is not Okafor or Jabari.

So an All-American, don’t see forthcoming.  A 3rd team All-ACC, is in the realm of possibility.  A top 5 draft pick, I think based off of upside alone, even with an underwhelming season is still in his grasp.  His size, ball skills, and athleticism are a rare combination to find.  A future All-Star, if he continues to work hard (which he has a relentless work ethic) then I also think is within his reach.  I repeat, I don’t expect him to carry college basketball though.

I like your analysis man.  Perhaps I’m a bit sour since we missed out on Ingram, but we have Justin Jackson so missing out on Ingram didn’t affect us at all.  I never understood why Jeter was a top ten player to begin with.  I don’t even think he starts this year.  Keep me posted on anymore inside stuff you hear.

He’s got the best combination of agility, shot-creating and handle at the wing in this class… and with that length too. 7’3+ wingspan with shake/ hesi moves, a good first step and an easy soft release off the bounce? That’s unfair.  The college game might be a little limiting with the way the court is shrunk with defenses, but in space, 1 on 1 he’s going to be a problem. He’s not like an Austin Daye or even a Tay Prince where they’re thin and look like they’re moving in a wind tunnel. Kid is really agile and that’s without meat on his bones.  As for the weight gain, it’s not surprising. Of course it’s not 23 lbs of muscle. It’s just 23 lbs. It could just mean that a super skinny kid is finally exposed to weight training while at the same time being plied with as much free food and protein shakes as he can handle.

In any case, he has the highest potential in this class IMO.

For sure the most controversial post you’ve made in a while. And this coming from you is specially shocking as for the most part you dont like these type of players. I guess Ingram does have alot of potential, but man, alot of his plays don’t scream NBA, as opposed to someone like Jaylen Brown who is just a fierce truck going at the rim. Can we really deny Brown at the 2 in the NBA? if not, he stands as the 6’7 SG with absurd diving ability…. making his potential higher.

Not to even mention Ben Simmons… I mean… just Wow at your comment.

Controversial? These type of players? You’re gonna have to clarify.

He has the best shot-creating potential in this class and he already makes it look easy. Head to heads aren’t everything, but when they were matched up I thought it was pretty clear who the better player was. Yeah, Jaylen has strength and everything that goes along with that, but Ingram is better in just about every other aspect. BI is more skilled with the better handle and shot. I even think he’s the better passer too. He also does a better job creating space for himself. One of his crosses or step backs, which he’s very comfortable in executing while maintaining balance, and he’s a full body length away from his defender in a position to shoot off the bounce with an effortless release. Another thing I look for in perimeter prospects is change of speed, players who know how to play at those in between speeds. It shows that a player is constantly thinking, gauging and reacting on the move as opposed to just putting his head down and reacting when the defense convenes. Ingram already has that in his game and I think he does it as good if not better than any wing prospect in this class.

I’m not exactly down on Jaylen, but I’ve found his play when he was surrounded by other good talent pretty disappointing. His body language wasn’t the best (does a lot of standing around with his hands up). He didn’t pick his spots well and when he did, he forced the issue putting up some bad shots. Sure, he can "truck" to the rim, but on the way there he’s pretty careless, being prone to getting stripped, losing his handle and driving into brick walls. To me, Ingram’s game is more seamless and the game looks easier for him. He’s comfortable playing on or off the ball and he doesn’t have to work as hard or force the issue as much to get up his shots. He can play within himself and still rack up points because of how versatile his scoring game is, being a threat from every level of the floor. In just about every single setting he’s been in since he’s blown up, he’s been productive AND efficient, which is actually a rare quality for wings (especially wings who can’t just OP their way through defenders) at that stage. I can’t say the same for Jaylen.

It’s even more controversial, the fact that you think is not controversial. It’s understandable that you like Ingram better than Brown, and there is an argument to be made between the two. I mention Brown to have a fair argument, but you’re post is completely ignoring Ben Simmons, the person that actually makes you’re "BI has the most potential" comment, controversial to say the least.

Back to Brown, yea he gets stripped and runs into brick walls, most of those problems arise from the fact that he burns people to the rim at all times and defenses collapse on him, he is so skilled and strong once he’s inside that he believes he can score over anyone (which he can) and puts up layups between 2-3 people. And this is why you say he makes it look hard to score, but reality is, that just a style of play. Does 30 point from prime Wade look as smooth as 30 points from KD? No, because they have different gamestyles. Jumpshooters are always gonna be smoother, specially when you have the height advantage that BI has on those HS kids as he can just rise up and shoot over them.Buttomline, Brown just needs to learn how to read double teams and kick out to shooters for easier points. Even then, I still think Brown has more ball skill than Ingram. He’s the better handler, and IB doesnt play better on-ball. I value higher players that can just blow right by competition with a first step, like Brown. As opposed to Ingram, who more or less goes around the competition relying on heavy crossover and behind the back moves, constantly shifting speeds side to side because they cant just blow by opponents. Why do I asses Brown’s athleticism? because it helps immensily with his ball skill, in addition, Brown also has better handles, point blank. All his dribbling moves are much quicker and tighter,  he can spin move in a blink. When attaking the basket and in transition, he often looks like a combo guard more so than a SF, more specifically the way he runs the pick and roll and is able to effortlessly split defenses…. leading to; making him a better/ more valuable playmaker.

As much as we say Brown OPs his way through, let’s make something clear, truth of the matter is, that he’s elite/excellent at torquing his body mid shot and adjusting to defense with great balance.  As opposed to Julius Randle who just runs chest to chest at defenses every time. Brown can go by you, through you, around you, and over you.
