What is stopping this guy from being a starter?

I know he is skinny, but so are Sanders and Henson even Noah isn’t very big. I honestly think he could be a good starting C next to Dirk and think he deserves a shot, I can’t imagine him being worse than Dalembert (not a shot at him I like his play in Dallas)

He dropped 23 points going 10-10 from the floor I mean why not give him a shot next year.

As a UNC fan I am honestly shocked at the lack of success he has had in the league.  He was a dominate force at UNC weighing around 200 lbs, with a supreme skillset and freak athleticism.  He has filled out now and I saw a video of him on twitter power cleaning around 300 lbs.  He hasn’t lost a beat with his athleticism and weight as well.  I don’t see why he can’t be a 16+8 guy.

This is not a knee jerk reaction, he has been very good all season.

He is shooting 67% and per 36 is averaging 18ppg 8rpg along with 2bpg.

He is a talented player and I honestly think he deserves a chance to start as he is more talented than Blair and Dalembert, granted that doesn’t mean he will be more successful however he deserves a shot.

He is still only 25 years old and has room to grow, I just would love to see what he can do next to Dirk rather than playing a bench role.

He’s always been a mystery to me in the League just as Anthony Randolph.

As a GSW fan, I’m so used to seeing him on the bench in street clothes.  The few times I actually see him play, he is kicking butt.  I’m surprised he hasn’t just faded into obscurity.

You forget that these one and done players who’ve been in the league for so long are still yet so young. Shocked me he’s just 25. In this new era, Wright brings the skill set to be a center, ya, but I’ll like to see him work on getting a respectable jumper. His calling is still at pf and he can still be a very good player if so.

He is 26. He has a PER of 23.67 which is 11th in the league. Of the player with a higher PER only Demarcus Cousins is not an Allstar that is pretty impressive.

Brandan Wright was one of the most hyped players in the 2007 draft outside of Oden and KD. A lot of mocks had him going in the 3 to 5 range, he was considered that good. He fell slightly to 8 and I recall that Don Nelson commented that he was very much a work in progress who would need time to develop in the NBA.

Sadly injuries restricted him to only 114 games in his first 4 years and he landed in Dallas post lockout on a minimum deal. Luckily he has improved steadily at Dallas and when Dirk was out last season he looked useful as a starter. He is almost always the first man off the bench for Dallas but he is still only seeing 18.6mpg despite putting up 9.3ppg. However Dallas opperate a 3 man big rotation around Dirk and both Dalambert and Blair see a roughly equal split of minutes as Wright.

I’d assume that Dallas like Dalambert’s experience and size as a starter alongside Dirk so that is fair enough and Wright is getting good minutes. So I have no issue with that.

Considering his college hype, Wright has had an understated NBA career but in Dallas he knows his role and has shown nice progress and was rewarded with a $5 million a year extension last summer. He still has a long way to go to live up to his college reputation but he is making a good fist of his time in Dallas.
