The link below iexemplifies and is a testament to Jim Boeheim’s coaching ability, a vastly underated coach.

NO players on this year’s Syracuse roster were top 50 recruits. Here’s a small part of the story. For the rest, click on the link.

…….”Five of Syracuse’s 10 scholarships players were not in Scout.com’s top 100 players in their respective classes and none of the current Orange men was in Scout.com’s top 50.

“We usually have a Jonny Flynn, an Eric Devendorf, a Paul Harris,” Murphy said, referring to the three top scorers gone from Syracuse’s 2008-09 squad. Flynn and Devendorf were McDonald’s All-Americans, while Harris, who was denied a spot in the McDonald’s game, played in the Jordan Brand Classic.

“Those guys were all top-20 recruits,” Murphy said. “This would be the first year we really don’t have a guy that was in the top 100 with a lot of hype. Normally, this type of team isn’t supposed to win and win big. This was going to be a big evaluation year and learning just to see if it means anything.””

    Wesley Johnson was #751…WOW
Onuaku’ s AAU team with Nolan Smith, Dante Cunningham, Jeff Green and Austin Freeman overshawdowed him.
Lottery pick Etan Thomas was #88
    Ruatins was rated #751
Brandon Triche wasn’t on scout.com top 100. And Hoop Scoop had him #155

c’mon dude. how in the world is jim boeheim underrated? he was voted into the basketball hall of fame in 2005. everyone recognizes him as phenomenal coach.

this team reminds me of the team that won the championship. they have a superstar in wesley johnson. strong inside precense in onuaku. deadly shooting with rautins and triche. and savvy role players in jardine, jackson and joseph. a lot like melo, warrick, duany and mcnamera with the help of edelin, forth/mcneil and pace.

Don’t know about Triche being a deadly shooter. Most of the three’s he nailed were against inferior teams.

Anyway, nobody mentions coach B with coach K, Patino, etc.

DHamp is right…Boeheim is an underrated coach in the sense that nobody really talks about him. Much like Sloan in the NBA and Cox for the Braves.

I don’t think Boeheim is underrated at all, I agree with juves, everyone in the basketball world recognizes him as one of the best.

You did prove he can see talent and potential in lower ranked recruits, but every nationally televised Syracuse game the announcers are constantly stating Boeheims credentials and how good of a coach he is. Sure, your everyday casual basketball fan may underrate him, but anyone who pays attention to college basketball and actually knows about it knows he is one of the greats.

Boeheim is definitely underrated. Most people would have Self, Izzo, Calhoun, Williams (that right there is a joke), K, even Rick Barnes, Huggins, Calipari ahead of Boeheim. They seem to attribute Boeheims unbelieveable record to having good, but often underachieving teams. For a very long time people thought he was overrated (some still do) because he only won one championship with Carmelo. But 32 out of 34 years he’s got 20 wins… This guy is a top 10 coach of ALL TIME.
